(浙江浙南名校联盟高一期中)Living in a city can be stressful. But some people in Bogota, Columbia have found a place to help ease stress and get a peaceful break from busy life. The place is a protected park for humming-birds(蜂鸟).
The park sits at the top of Monserrate Hill, east of the city, in a place known as the Paramuno corridor. The area contains a forest that has turned into a peaceful place for both people and birds. As the hummingbirds fly from flower to flower, some people study the animals through binoculars. Others take pictures with cameras or phones.“Sometimes it doesn’t seem real because we are close to a city of eight million citizens who produce noise every day,” said Camilo Cantor, a caretaker in the park. His job is to mix water and sugar that is put in bird feeders along a 300-meter path. Cantor explains, “You can hear noise from the city, the generation of pollution and aggressiveness.” But, he adds, the park is a special place, like an oasis. It is a place where people can go to release stress and forget about the pressures of city life.
Visitors to the park can see between 25 to 35 different species of birds, Cantor said. Ten years ago, the hill was completely deforested, meaning there were not any trees left on it. But workers began to replant local trees and flowers to bring the forest back to life. Presently, there are 115 species of birds, including 18 kinds of hummingbirds and some migratory(迁移的)species. Hummingbirds are only found on the American continent and Columbia is home to many different kinds.

(河北沧衡八校联盟高一期中)Human activity is changing the surface and temperature of the planet. But new research shows it is also changing the sound of the earth’s oceans. Scientists say the changes in the sounds of our oceans affect many underwater animals—from very small fish to huge whales.
Sound travels very far underwater. For fish, sound is probably a better way to sense their environment than light. Sound helps fish and other underwater animals survive. They use sound to communicate with each other. Sound also helps some ocean animals find food and avoid their hunters. However, the research suggests that increasing noise from humans is making it harder for these animals to hear each other.
The noise is coming from shipping traffic, fishing ships, underwater oil and gas exploration, offshore construction and other noisy human activities.
Experts explain the term “masking” on its website.“Masking” happens when one or more noises in the water block sound important to underwater animals’ existence.
The Red Sea is one of the world’s most important shipping passages. It is full of large ships traveling to Asia, Europe and Africa. Some fish and other animals now avoid the noisiest areas.
Scientists use underwater equipment to record fish sounds. These sounds are in the same low frequencies as shipping traffic noise. Experts state that “masking” is the most noticeable when a noise is at the same frequency and loudness as biologically important sounds.
Experts say that effects of noise on underwater animals are not well understood. However, some studies suggest that noise may cause hearing loss. The stress from human noise might also affect the immune system—an animal’s natural defense system—as well as reproductive health or behavior.
Sound pollution may be easier to deal with than other ocean threats. It’s not like plastics and climate change, which are much harder to deal with.

It was the first time I had met a seal(海豹), the most mysterious(神秘的)animal for me in the world. I jumped into the cold water to take a closer look. Immediately, she swam toward me and tried to threaten me by putting my camera and much of my head into her mouth. I tried not to show any fear. After a few seconds, she let go of my head and swam away.
Then she came back with a live penguin. The penguin was for me. Of course, I didn’t eat the penguin, and I think the seal was very disappointed. The seal thought I was just another seal, I realized. One most important thing in a seal’s life is eating. So perhaps this seal was worried about me. She didn’t want me to go hungry. She brought me some more penguins. She even tried to show me how to eat them. The seal tried to push penguins into my camera because she thought the camera was my mouth!
I understood that she was trying to feed me. But I think that she was really trying to communicate with me. By now, she didn’t seem very dangerous. She stayed by me and tried to feed me for four days. One time, she noticed another seal come up behind me. She made a deep, warning sound and scared the other seal away. She then took that seal’s penguin and gave it to me.
Those four days were the most unbelievable experience I ever had as a wildlife photographer, because I got some amazing pictures. I also learned that animals do not always behave the way we expect. My relationship with this powerful and smart animal will stay with me forever.

(郑州高一期末)When it comes to sharks, many people think of their pointy fins and violent nature. But there is more to sharks than their sharp teeth: The creature appeared on earth 410 million years ago, before dinosaurs.
However, sharks are now at the edge of extinction. Numbers of sharks have decreased by 71% over the past 50 years, according to the research published in Nature.“Such sharp decreases are shocking even to experts, especially when compared to land animal statistics,” Sonja Fordham at Shark Advocates International told New Scientist magazine.“This data(数据)may be an underestimate(低估)of reality because of unreported fish catches,” noted Nathan Pacoureau, a researcher of the study team.
The study included 31 species. 24 now risk extinction, and 3 shark species are now classified as highly endangered. The study found the decrease hit the largest species first before influencing smaller ones over time, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature. It also said that shark finning and fishing worldwide have driven the decrease.“The Indian Ocean is the worst. There is almost no fishery management at all,” said Pacoureau.
“Overfishing of sharks destroys the health of entire ocean ecosystems as well as food safety for some countries,” said Nicholas Dulvy, a professor of Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada.“The researchers are calling on immediate action to ensure a brighter future for these animals,” according to the BBC.
Although the situation looks depressing, the future of sharks is not doomed(注定)yet.25 species have recovered because of long-term protection campaigns in the past decades. A couple of shark species have started to recover through science-based fishing limits. These examples provide living evidence that the world can set and meet biodiversity goals.

Ways to help kids explore nature
Summer is the best time for kids to spend time in nature. Here are some ways to help kids explore nature in the summer holidays.
16 You don’t have to teach kids to love nature because they already do. Young children naturally love the outdoors and are fascinated by dirt, rocks, trees and so on. Therefore, parents’ role is more about removing distractions like phones and tablets to enable that exploration to take place.
Allow for full engagement with nature. 17 Bug bites will eventually disappear. Cuts and broken bones heal in time. Let your kid throw themselves into the natural world freely and resist(忍住)the parental urge to shout, “Be careful! Put that down! Ew, that’s dirty!”
Set a goal for the summer. Make it your family’s mission to spend as much time outside as possible in summer. Sit down with your kids and brainstorm ways of doing so. Create a list of places in your area that you can visit and check them off the list. 18
Prepare an outdoor exploration kit(工具包). Make your nature adventure easy and safe by putting together an exploration kit in advance. Keep it in a box or a bag in your car or on your bike. 19 They can include hats, sunscreen, snacks, rain jackets and a water bottle.
Have a positive attitude. 20 Instead, consider it a welcome escape for yourself as well. Kids are the best possible excuse to get away from your desk, away from the piles of laundry and dishes, and out of the house for a few hours.
A. Clothes can be washed.
B. Start by going outside.
C. Letting the children get in touch with nature should not feel like a burden in any way.
D. You can also consider starting a nature club using online resources.
E. Let kids take the lead.
F. When kids are involved in planning, they’re more eager to participate.

Dear Mayor,
I’ve just learnt the news online about killing tigers and I am so angry.
I think tigers must be protected well, or they will die out. It is time that we took action to protect them from being killed.
It is said that the population of tigers is getting smaller and smaller. I think there are two main reasons for this. The first reason is that some people kill tigers for their skins to earn money. The other is that too many trees have been cut down, which has destroyed the places where tigers used to live.
I hope that the government should pass laws to protect tigers and punish the tiger hunters. We should work together to make a pleasant home for both human beings and animals.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
(济宁高一期中)“I don’t want to go.” Maria moved her feet slightly and hung her shoulders. Mom continued packing a bag.“We’re going to Uncle Rich’s in Montana for summer vacation. He’s your father’s brother, and we go there every year.”
Maria stormed out of her mom’s room and said angrily, “Nobody ever thinks of me!”“That’s enough. We’re going,” replied Mom angrily, too.
Their August vacation came sooner than Maria wanted. Before she knew it, she and the family were at Uncle Rich’s farm. Uncle Rich grabbed her dad and hugged him. Maria grabbed her bag, “I’m going to my room.”
“Wait a minute, Maria,” said Uncle Rich.“I have got something to show you.” At the barn(牲口棚)Maria saw the horse. It was of medium size. It had a fine, soft black coat and one white foot. There was a wide white patch(斑)that ran down the center of its face. Maria fell in love with it at first sight.“Wow! What a horse!”
“He’s a mustang,” said Uncle Rich.“Mustangs are free horses who live in the wild. We found him stuck in the mud down by the river. My friend and I roped him and managed to get him out.”
Maria kicked the dirt.“Can I help care for him?” Then she felt her heart beating in expectation.
Uncle Rich laughed, “You bet. The more hands we have, the better. Just don’t get too attached. Once we’re sure he’s okay, we will have to set him free. Mustangs went from over a million at the beginning of the 20th century to less than 17,000 in 1970. They were hunted illegally for meat.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
Paragraph 1:
Hearing this, Maria felt her stomach turn.
Paragraph 2:
Maria hurried back to the barn in a flash.
[参考范文]
Paragraph 1:
Hearing this, Maria felt her stomach turn. “That’s terrible! Some actions should be taken to protect them,” Maria said.“It’s better now,” said Uncle Rich.“The government came to the rescue. Their number is increasing.” Hearing this, Maria breathed a sigh of relief. In a blink of an eye, she raced to her room, dropped her bag and got changed.
Paragraph 2:
Maria hurried back to the barn in a flash. The mustang walked over to her slowly and stopped in front of her. Maria put her hand on his forehead. The mustang gently shook his head and wagged its tail. At that very moment, Maria was determined to help the black beauty back to the wild. Moreover, she was sure she would have an unforgettable vacation here.
