Tips for avoiding traffic jams
The radio has more than just music. Check the local news station for the latest traffic report. Or go online and check traffic cameras before you set out. If there is a jam, you’ll be prepared and can try another route.
Take the road less travelled. Although highways may be the most direct route, back (偏僻的) roads can be much less crowded, which can save you from the frustration of the stopandgo traffic.
Rush hour isn’t just a lovely nickname. It means the morning and afternoon traffic lasts for several hours, but they’re still called “rush hour” for a reason — everyone’s on the road and in a hurry to get somewhere. Treat rush hour like bad weather — if you don’t have to go anywhere, stay off the roads.
Tips for those unavoidable traffic jams
Don’t break the law. You’ve gone 30 feet in 30 minutes and all of a sudden you see people using the shoulders (紧急停车道). Don’t behave like them. Not only is this illegal, but also there’s a good chance they’ll get caught or cause even more problems.
Pay extra attention to zigzaggers (Z字形行进者). When some people are anxious, they may start changing lanes (车道) every 5 seconds or cut you off. Keep checking your windows and mirrors for these lane changers.
Look for an escape. If it is possible to exit the road safely, do it. Use a GPS unit, and you can change your route midtrip if needed.
Be courteous. Good manners could help you avoid a possible accident. Allow people in from a lane that is ending. Speeding up to keep them out increases your chances of an accident.
26. To avoid traffic jams, we are advised to do the following EXCEPT .
A. getting traffic news before leaving B. changing lanes frequently
C. avoiding rush hours D. choosing back roads
27. What should we do when there are zigzaggers?
A. Sound the horn loudly. B. Stop and let them go first.
C. Keep checking the mirrors. D. Drive quickly to keep them out.
28. In which part of a magazine can this passage be found?
A. Entertainment. B. Advertisement.
C. Market. D. Life.
【答案】26. B 27. C 28. D

【27题详解】
细节理解题。根据倒数第三段“Pay extra attention to zigzaggers (Z字形行进者). When some people are anxious, they may start changing lanes (车道) every 5 seconds or cut you off. Keep checking your windows and mirrors for these lane changers.(要特别注意Z字形行进者。当一些人焦虑的时候,他们可能会开始每5秒就换车道,或者抢你的道。经常检查你的车窗和后视镜是否有这些变道者。)”可知,如果有Z字形行进者,我们应该持续检查后视镜。故选C。

When I spent the summer with my grandmother, she always set me down to the general store with a list. Behind the counter was a lady like no one I’d ever seen.
“Excuse me,” I said. She looked up and said, “I’m Miss Bee.”
“I need to get these.” I said, holding up my list. “So? Go get them.” Miss Bee pointed to a sign. “There’s no one here except you and me and I’m not your servant, so get yourself a basket from that pile.”
I visited Miss Bee twice a week that summer. Sometimes she shortcharged me. Other times she overcharged. Going to the store was like going into battle. All summer long she found ways to trick me. No sooner had I learned how to pronounce “bicarbonate of soda” and memorized its location on the shelves than she made me hunt for it all over again. But by summer’s end the shopping trip that had once taken me an hour was done in 15 minutes.
“All right, little girl,” she said. “What did you learn this summer?” “That you’re a meanie (小气鬼)!” I replied. Miss Bee just laughed and said, “I know what you think of me. Well, I don’t care! My job is to teach every child I meet life lessons. When you get older you’ll be glad!” Glad I met Miss Bee? Ha! The idea was absurd…
Until one day my daughter came to me with homework troubles. “It’s too hard,” she said. “Could you finish my math problems for me?”
“If I do it for you, how will you ever learn to do it yourself?” I said. Suddenly, I was back at that general store where I had learned the hard way to add up my bill by myself. Had I ever been overcharged since?
29. What did the author’s grandmother always ask her to do during her summer vacation?
A. Go to see the lady in a store. B. Make lists for her shopping.
C. Buy something in the general store. D. Send lists to the lady in the general store.

A. Teaching kids lessons was Miss Bee’s job at that time.
B. She neither shortcharged the author nor overcharged her.
C. Her tricks made the author finish shopping in a shorter time.
D. She used to learn to pronounce the names of some goods in the store.
31 The author mentioned her daughter to ________.
A. express her opposition to Miss Bee
B. tell readers Miss Bee’s influence on her
C. show her satisfaction with her kid’s homework
D. inform readers of her irresponsibility for her kid
32. What can be a suitable title for the text?

All over the world the need for more laptops and computers increases each year. Networks have been part of our life. Probably everyone with a portable device(移动设备)has once logged on to a public WiFi network without paying for it while they are having a coffee, on a train, in a shopping mall or at a hotel. However, is this kind of public WiFi network safe?
Some networks are better protected than others because encryption(加密) methods are used. Therefore, they are safer than others. But a survey in 2015 showed that more than 950 million records were not protected, including addresses, emails, birth dates, phone numbers, passwords and so on. These open WiFi networks are really not safe, because it is very easy for hackers(黑客)to break into the operating system and get people's private information.
Most smartphones and laptops, by themselves, search and connect to WiFi networks. They usually prefer a network with a connection that has been used before. Hackers' devices are able to record these searches and look like the trusted WiFi networks. When these smartphones and laptops log on to the networks which are not real, hackers can easily steal their private information.
So next time, when we want to use our laptops or our smartphones in public places which offer free WiFi networks, please think twice or take safe measures before using them.
33. Why do people like to log on to a public WiFi network?
A. Because it is free.

A. not all the public WiFi networks are safe

细节理解题。根据第二段“Some networks are better protected than others because encryption(加密) methods are used. These open WiFi networks are really not safe, because it is very easy for hackers to break into the operating system and get people's private information.”(由于使用了加密方法,一些网络比其他网络得到了更好的保护。这些开放的WiFi网络真的不安全,因为黑客很容易侵入操作系统,获取人们的私人信息。)由此可知,并非所有公共WiFi网络都是安全的。故选A项。
【35题详解】

【36题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“However, is this kind of public WiFi network safe?”(然而,这种公共WiFi网络安全吗?)根据第二段“These open WiFi networks are really not safe, because it is very easy for hackers to break into the operating system and get people's private information.”( 这些开放的WiFi网络真的不安全,因为黑客很容易侵入操作系统,获取人们的私人信息)由此可知,短文介绍了为什么公共WiFi网络可能存在危险。所以短文的最佳标题为“为什么公共WiFi网络可能存在危险”。故选C项。

Parents, you’ve worked hard to teach the most important life lessons to your little ones. You ask them to say “please” and “thank you”, you remind them to eat with a knife and fork, and you never, never let them pick their nose in public. But there’s one important lesson that you might be forgetting --- and it’s nothing you can cover in a simple conversation.
According to a new study in the journal Science, babies receive more than genetics (基因) from their parents. They can also get certain good qualities, such as persistence (坚持不懈), by watching how adults behave. Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology say that babies who watched an adult struggle (努力) with and then triumph over something were more likely to show persistence themselves when given a new task.
The team at MIT studied 262 babies between the ages of 13 and 18 months. They placed them in on c of three situations. In the first one, the lead researcher struggled with two different toys’ problems before solving them, letting the baby watch while she did so. The second time, the researcher solved the problems but did not struggle with them. And for the third scene, she did not do anything.
After each scene, the researcher left a small musical toy with the child. She showed the baby that it could play music but did not teach them how to turn it on. The babies who had watched the researcher struggle discovered and pressed the toy’s button (按钮) a much greater number of times than those in the last two groups. In other words, the babies did not copy what they had watched; they learned not to give up, instead.
Now, the researchers are interested in finding which ways of talking with babies influence them the most. They also hope to know if the results can work in the real world, as well as whether the lesson of persistence might last into adulthood.
37. What important lesson might parents forget?
A. Asking their kids to be polite
B. Setting an example for their kids.
C. Teaching their kids good table manners.
D. Using proper words in front of their kids.
38. What do the underlined words “triumph over” in Paragraph2mean?
A. Succeed at. B. Look at.
C. Search for. D. Care for.
39. What did the study mainly show?
A. Babies finished difficult tasks through copying.
B. Babies learned the value of persistence.
C. Kids learned most from their parents.
D. Kids are smarter than we thought.
40. What will the researchers make an effort to do?
A. Know the influence of society on behaviors.
B. Help parents get along with their kids.
C. Put the research results into practice.
D. Learn more about babies’ language.
【答案】37. B 38. A 39. B 40. C

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一项研究发现,研究表明婴儿通过观察成人行为学习坚持不懈品质的研究,显示了非遗传教育的重要性。
【37题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第一段“But there’s one important lesson that you might be forgetting --- and it’s nothing you can cover in a simple conversation.(但有一个重要的教训你可能会忘记——这不是你能在一个简单的对话中涵盖的。)”以及第二段“Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology say that babies who watched an adult struggle (努力) with and then triumph over something were more likely to show persistence themselves when given a new task.(麻省理工学院的研究人员表示,看到成年人在某件事上挣扎并取得胜利的婴儿,在接受新任务时更有可能表现出坚持不懈的精神。)”可知,父母可能会忘记的重要一课是通过他们的行为为孩子们树立榜样,尤其是关于坚持不懈这样的良好品质。故选B。
【38题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线单词所在句 “Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology say that babies who watched an adult struggle (努力) with and then triumph over something were more likely to show persistence themselves when given a new task.(麻省理工学院的研究人员表示,看到成年人在某件事上挣扎并取得胜利的婴儿,在接受新任务时更有可能表现出坚持不懈的精神。)” 故选A。
【39题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第二段“They can also get certain good qualities, such as persistence (坚持不懈), by watching how adults behave.(他们也可以通过观察成年人的行为获得一些好的品质,比如坚持不懈。)”以及第四段“In other words, the babies did not copy what they had watched; they learned not to give up, instead.(换句话说,婴儿不会复制他们所看到的东西;相反,他们学会了不放弃。)” 可以看出,研究主要展示了婴儿通过观察成人的行为学习到了坚持不懈的价值。故选B。
【40题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“They also hope to know if the results can work in the real world, as well as whether the lesson of persistence might last into adulthood.(他们还希望知道这些结果是否适用于现实世界,以及坚持不懈的教训是否会持续到成年。)”可知,研究人员将努力将研究结果付诸实践。故选C。

第二部分 阅读表达(满分10分)
阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
When I was in my second year in senior high school. I found a four-dollar-an-hour part-time job at Villanova Pizza. Like many of my friends, I longed to earn some pocket money from the job as well as gaining social experience. Just one week after I worked there, Stanley, the manager called me into his office. As the saying goes, “life isn’t a bed of roses”. My first job ended in failure. His reason was that I showed up late twice and took more breaks than others. “Oh, I’m a loser.” I thought to myself. I believed that thought was shared by my brothers, neither of whom had ever been fired, and my mother, though she would never express it in those terms.
“I am too sad to do anything.” I complained to my father.
After listening to my words, he laughed. “It’s not funny; I’m a loser.” I said. “No, you’re not. This is a part of growing up. You will be all right, my dear daughter,” he said, patting my shoulder. “Trust me. You are good enough.”
I looked into my father’s eyes and I could see he really trusted me. And I believed him.
Since then, “Trust me. You are good enough.” are the only words I have repeated to myself. I have worked hard to be a better person and cherished (珍惜) every chance I have got.
Finally, I succeeded in entering a good university. After graduation I found my dream job. I couldn’t wait to call my father and show my gratitude.
Look ahead when you experience something unpleasant and there is always someone around believing in you. When they believe in us, we begin to believe in ourselves, too. They tell us we are good enough over and over until we can hear it.

【答案】Dear David,
I came to Canada last month and I’m studying in the University of Toronto. I am writing to ask for your help because I am having some problems with my roommate, Tom.
Tom is basically a good guy. But sometimes he doesn’t care much about his behavior. He seldom keeps the room clean and tidy, often leaving his things about. He plays very loud music during the rest time. At times, I find him using others’ daily things without permission. What’s worse, he often brings his friends here to drink, talking and laughing loudly. I have been trying to ask him not to do that, but he doesn’t listen to me. Would you be so kind as to give me some advice?
Best wishes.
Yours,
Li Hua

C. Market. D. Life.
B

According to a new study in the journal Science babies receive more than genetics (基因) from their parents.
