Chain of Love(与他人—传递善意)
Amelia
1
Another disappointing day was passing, and he was driving his beat-up old car home. He was out all day looking for a job. It was getting dark and light snow was coming down, so he almost didn’t see the old lady standing on the side of the road. It was clear that she needed help. He pulled up in front of her obviously brand new and expensive car and got out.
While nobody had stopped to help for the last hour and there was a smile on his face, she was worried when he approached her. He didn’t look safe. He looked poor and hungry.
He could see she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He said, “I’m here to help you, ma’am. Why don’t you wait in your car to keep warm? My name is Joe.”
A tire was flat. Joe fetched tools from his own car to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt. As he was tightening her car’s nuts, she rolled down the window, said thanks and asked him how much she owed him. Any amount would have been all right with her. She had already imagined all the awful things that could have happened without his help.
Joe never thought twice about the money. He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could pass on the chain of love. He waited until she started her car and drove off. It had been a cold and depressing day, but he felt good as he headed for home.
Soon the lady saw a small restaurant. She went in to grab a bite to eat and warm up before she made the last leg of her trip home. The waitress came over with a sweet smile and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant. Although the waitress looked tired and walked painfully due to the pregnancy, she still served the lady.

5. Ending
That night when the waitress got home from work, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written.
What should we write?
Why did the lady give 100 dollars?
What would the lady do next?
1
Because she wanted to help the waitress by giving the waitress the tips.
She might directly leave the restaurant and leave a note to the waitress.
What would the waitress find if she returned to give the change to the lady?
What would be written by the lady?
2
She might find the lady had left and that a note was on the napkin.
A note saying passing on the chain of love to others in need.
The waitress was thinking about the money and what the lady had written, so what would happen in the last sentence? How would the waitress feel?
3
Before the waitress went off work, she was deeply touched but still served the customers warmly.
Why did the waitress keep thinking about the money and the note?
What did the money mean to the waitress?
4
Because she had never encountered such an act of kindness from strangers.
It meant a lot to the baby to be born and her life.
What would the waitress do after her husband went back home?
Who would be the waitress' husband?
5
She might excitedly tell her husband about what had happened.
Joe, who had helped the lady without asking for payment.
How would Joe feel after he realised the lady was the one he had helped? What would he do next?
What have you learned from the story?
6
He would feel surprised and continue to help others.
We should pass on the chain of love to whoever needs help.
