Swedish businessman Nile Bergqvist is delighted with his new hotel, the world’s first igloo hotel.(厌倦了炙热的海滩和过热的酒店房间的度假者会选择一个大冰屋。 根据第二段第一句“In two weeks’ time Bergqvist’s ice creation will be nothing more than a pool of water.(两周后,Bergqvist创造的冰将变成一池水。)” 根据第三段的句子“Six workmen spent more than eight weeks piling 1,000 tons of snow onto a wooden base; when the snow froze, the base was removed.(6名工人花了8个多星期把1000吨雪堆在一个木制底座上;当雪结冰时,基座就被移走了。)” 根据文章倒数第二段的句子“After their stay, all visitors receive a survival certificate recording their success.(在他们停留之后,所有的游客都会收到一份生存证书,记录他们的成功。)” 故选A。 根据第四段的句子“With no windows, nowhere to hang clothes and temperatures below 0℃, it may seem more like a survival test than a relaxing(轻松的) hotel break.(没有窗户,没有地方挂衣服,温度低于0℃,这看起来更像是一场生存测试,而不是放松的酒店休息。)”和 第三段的句子“The only wooden thing we have left in the igloo is the front door(我们在冰屋里唯一留下的木制东西是前门)” 可知,冰屋没有窗户只有木头做的前门。 故选A。 C Treasure hunts (寻宝)have excited people’s imagination for hundreds of years both in real life and in books such as Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. Kit Williams, a modern writer, had the idea of combining the real excitement of a treasure hunt with clues (线索)found in a book when he wrote a children’s story Masquerade, in 1979. The book was about a hare, and a month before it came out, Williams buried a gold hare in a park in Bedfordshire. The book contained a large number of clues to help readers find the hare, but Williams put in a lot of “red herrings”, or false clues, to mislead them. Ken Roberts, the man who found the hare, had been looking for it for nearly two years. Although he had been searching in the wrong area most of the time, he found it by logic (逻辑),not by luck. His success came from the fact that he had gained an important clue at the start. He had realized that the words :”One of Six to Eight” under the first picture in the book connected the hare in some way to Katherine of Aragon, the first of Henry VIII’s six wives. Even here, however, Williams had succeeded in misleading him. Ken knew that Katherine of Aragon had died at Kimbolton in Cambridgeshire in 1536 and thought that Williams had buried the hare there. He had been digging there for over a year before a new idea occurred to him. He found out that Kit Williams had spent his childhood near Ampthill, in Befordshire and thought that he must have buried the hare in a place he knew well, but he still could not see the connection with Katherine of Aragon, until one day he came across two stone crosses in Ampthill Park and learnt that they had been built in her honor in 1773. Even then his search had not come to an end. It was only after he had spent several nights digging around the cross that he decided to write to Kit Williams to find out if he was wasting his time there. Williams encouraged him to continue, and on February 24th 1982, he found the treasure. It was worth £ 3000 in the beginning, but the excitement it had caused since its burial made it much more valuable. 46. The underlined word “them”(paragraph1)refers to . A. red herrings B. treasure hunts C. Henry VIII’s six wives D. readers of Masquerade 47. What is the most important clue in the story to help Ken Roberts find the hare ? A. Two stone crosses in Ampthill B. Stevenson’s Treasure Island C. Katherine of Aragon D. Williams’ hometown 48. The stone crosses in Ampthill were built . A. to tell about what happened in 1773 B. to show respect for Henry VIII’s first wife C. to serve as a road sign in Ampthill Park D. to inform people where the gold hare was 49. Which of the following describes Roberts’ logic in searching for the hare ? a.Henry VIII’s six wives b.Katherine’s burial place at Kimbolton c.Williams’ childhood in Ampthill d.Katherine of Aragon e.stone crosses in Ampthill Park A. a—b—c—e—d B. d—b—c—e—a C. a—d—b—c—e D. b—a—e—c—d 50. What is the subject discussed in the text ? A. An exciting historical event B. A modern treasure hunt C. The attraction of Masquerade D. The importance of logical thinking 【答案】46. D 47. C 48. B 49. C 50. 根据文章第一段的“Kit Williams, a modern writer, had the idea of combining the real excitement of a treasure hunt with clues (线索)found in a book when he wrote a children’s story Masquerade, in 1979. The book was about a hare, and a month before it came out, Williams buried a gold hare in a park in Bedfordshire. The book contained a large number of clues to help readers find the hare, but Williams put in a lot of “red herrings”, or false clues, to mislead them. 根据第二段的“His success came from the fact that he had gained an important clue at the start. e had realized that the words :”One of Six to Eight” under the first picture in the book connected the hare in some way to Katherine of Aragon, the first of Henry VIII’s six wives. 根据第二段中的“but he still could not see the connection with Katherine of Aragon, until one day he came across two stone crosses in Ampthill Park and learnt that they had been built in her honor in 1773.( 但他仍然看不出他与阿拉贡的凯瑟琳之间的联系,直到有一天,他在阿普希尔公园偶然发现了两个石制十字架,才知道它们是1773年为了纪念她而建造的。)” 根据文章第二段“He had realized that the words :”One of Six to Eight” under the first picture in the book connected the hare in some way to Katherine of Aragon, the first of Henry VIII’s six wives. 根据第一段第一句话 “Treasure hunts (寻宝)have excited people’s imagination for hundreds of years both in real life and in books such as Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.( 数百年来,无论是在现实生活中,还是在罗伯特·路易斯·史蒂文森的《金银岛》等书中,寻宝活动都激发了人们的想象力。)” B。 D Since the 1970s, scientists have been searching for ways to link the brain with computers. Braincomputer interface (BCI) technology could help people with disabilities send commands to machines. Recently, two researchers, Jose Millan and Michele Tavella from the Federal Polytechnic School in Lausanne, Switzerland, demonstrated (展示) a small robotic wheelchair directed by a person's thoughts. In the laboratory, Tavella operated the wheelchair just by thinking about moving his left or right hand. He could even talk as he watched the vehicle and guided it with his thoughts. “Our brain has billions of nerve cells. These send signals through the spinal cord (脊髓) to the muscles to give us the ability to move. But spinal cord injuries or other conditions can prevent these weak electrical signals from reaching the muscles.” Tavella says. “Our system allows disabled people to communicate with external world and also to control devices.” The researchers designed a special cap for the user. This head cover picks up the signals from the scalp (头皮) and sends them to a computer. The computer interprets the signals and commands the motorized wheelchair. The wheelchair also has two cameras that identify objects in its path. They help the computer react to commands from the brain. Prof. Millan, the team leader, says scientists keep improving the computer software that interprets brain signals and turns them into simple commands. “The practical possibilities that BCI technology offers to disabled people can be grouped in two categories: communication, and controlling devices. One example is this wheelchair.” He says his team has set two goals. One is testing with real patients, so as to prove that this is a technology they can benefit from. And the other is to guarantee that they can use the technology over long periods of time. 51. BCI is a technology that can ________. A. help to update computer systems B. link the human brain with computers C. help the disabled to recover D. control a person's thoughts 52. How did Tavella operate the wheelchair in the laboratory? A. By controlling his muscles. B. By talking to the machine. C. By moving his hand. D. By using his mind. 53. Which of the following shows the path of the signals described in Paragraph 5? A. scalp→computer→cap→wheelchair B. computer→cap→scalp→wheelchair C. scalp→cap→computer→wheelchair D. cap→computer→scalp→wheelchair 54. The team will test with real patients to ________. A. make profits from them B. prove the technology useful to them C. make them live longer D. learn about their physical condition 55. Which of the following would be the best title for the text? A. Switzerland, the BCI Research Center B. New Findings About How the Human Brain Works C. BCI Could Mean More Freedom for the Disabled D. Robotic Vehicles Could Help to Cure Brain Injuries 【答案】51. B 52. D 53. C 54. B 55. The wheelchair also has two cameras that identify objects in its path.(这个头罩从头皮接收信号,并将其发送到计算机上。 He says his team has set two goals. One is testing with real patients, so as to prove that this is a technology they can benefit from.( 他说,他的团队设定了两个目标。 If you love eating and drinking for free and are looking to make some money, there’s a job that suits you. A new type of service allows people to hire(雇佣) others to enjoy their favorite foods. Chinese media recently reported on an increasingly popular service that people can go online and hire others to enjoy certain foods and drinks, and ask them to provide video evidence of them eating or drinking the said treats. People should pay from two to nine yuan for the service besides the cost of the food. Pearl milk tea(珍珠奶茶) is a particularly popular service, as the chewy (耐嚼的) balls and tea drink is so popular these days. There are also some people who want to pay the one who wants to eat fried chicken or hot pot for them. The trend(趋势) has spread to other areas such as selling videos of pet owners feeding their animals and people watching TV series for others. One person in Harbin even offered to sell photos of buyers’ names written in the heavy snow. So why would anyone pay a total stranger a treat rather than enjoy it themselves? Well, clearly, the online service is so cheap that some people simply do it because of boredom. Some sellers explained that most customers buy their service because they’re hungry at night while they’re on a diet. Eating and drinking by others may help customers reduce the desire(欲望) and avoid high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and other health problems, sellers said. While others get satisfaction in watching others enjoy their favorite treats. This service has garnered a lot of attention on social media. B Holidaymakers who are bored with baking beaches and overheated hotel rooms head for a big igloo. Swedish businessman Nile Bergqvist is delighted with his new hotel, the world’s first igloo hotel. Built in a small town in Lapland, it has been attracting lots of visitors, but soon the fun will be over. In two weeks’ time Bergqvist’s ice creation (作品) will be nothing more than a pool of water. “We don’t see it as a big problem,” he says. “We just look forward to replacing it.” Bergqvist built his first igloo in 1991 for an art exhibition. It was so successful that he designed the present one, which measures roughly 200 square meters. Six workmen spent more than eight weeks piling 1,000 tons of snow onto a wooden base; when the snow froze, the base was removed. “The only wooden thing we have left in the igloo is the front door,” he says. After their stay, all visitors receive a survival certificate recording their success. With no windows, nowhere to hang clothes and temperatures below 0℃, it may seem more like a survival test than a relaxing (轻松的) hotel break. “It’s great fun,” Bergqvist explains, “As well as a good start in survival training.” The popularity of the igloo is beyond doubt: it is now attracting tourists from all over the world. At least 800 people have stayed at the igloo this season even though there are only 10 rooms. “You can get a lot of people in,” explains Bergqvist. “The beds are three meters wide by two meters long, and can fit at least four at one time.” 41. Which of the following pictures below is closest to the igloo hotel as described in the text? A. B. C. D. C Treasure hunts (寻宝)have excited people’s imagination for hundreds of years both in real life and in books such as Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. What is the subject discussed in the text ? A. An exciting historical event B. A modern treasure hunt C. The attraction of Masquerade D. The importance of logical thinking D Since the 1970s, scientists have been searching for ways to link the brain with computers. Robotic Vehicles Could Help to Cure Brain Injuries If you love eating and drinking for free and are looking to make some money, there’s a job that suits you. Although it’s not exactly a get-rich-quickly job, there are quite a lot of people willing to do it for the free treats alone. Some people describing it as their dream job. 56.
