Then, things changed and I had to find a job. I stumbled along with low-paying jobs, stress and self-doubt. Three years later, while working at a community college, I became friends with the president’s secretary. She encouraged me to take classes and get a teaching degree. I wrestled with the idea for several months and finally enrolled in one class that fall. To my amazement, I loved school. I loved learning. So, in the spring, I enrolled in two classes while working full-time. I doubled up on classes, even going in the summer months. I won’t say it was easy. I still had all the responsibility for two teenage daughters, making my house a home, preparing meals, planning social events, making sure their homework was done, and finding time to do my own homework. In one of my low moments, as I questioned whether to continue with my education, my fifteen-year-old daughter strolled into the room. “What are you doing?” she asked casually. “Trying to decide if I want to pursue my education and get a degree or not,” I replied despondently (苦恼地). “Why are you wondering?” she asked. “Well, I’ll be forty by the time I finally get my degree.” “You’ll be forty anyway,” she said matter-of-factly. “Do you wanna be forty with a degree or forty without a degree?” And then she walked out of the room. I stared after her incredulously Out of the mouth of babes! In that moment, my life changed. I wanted to be forty with a college degree! I don’t know what got me to the finish line, but four months after my fortieth birthday, I walked proudly across the stage to receive my Bachelor’s in Education. Three years later, I received my Master’s in English. At the age of sixty-five, I retired from teaching high-school English. That one decision I made so many years ago opened doors to new worlds that I had never dreamed of before. It changed my life in the most beautiful way, filling it with joy, happiness, laughter and fun. And that made all the difference. 4. What inspired the author to pursue her education and get a teaching degree? A. Advice from a friend at work. B. A desire to change her career path. C. A conversation with the college’s president. D. Encouragement from her teenage daughters. 5. According to paragraph 2, which of the following made the author’s road to her degree tough? A. Lack of her daughters’ support. B. Overwhelming household chores. C. Financial crisis caused by low-paying jobs. D. Strict requirements from teachers. 6. What was the turning point that motivated the author to carry on with her education? A. Promotion at work. B. A new realization about her age. C. A new-found love for learning. D. A conversation with her friend. 7. Which of the following can best describe the author? A. Ambitious and curious. B. Honest and adventurous. C. Diligent and determined. D. Courageous and considerate. A 5. B 6. B 7. 根据第二段中“Three years later, while working at a community college, I became friends with the president’s secretary. She encouraged me to take classes and get a teaching degree. (三年后,当我在一所社区大学工作时,我和总统的秘书成了朋友。她鼓励我去上课并获得教师学位。)”可知,是工作中朋友的建议激励作者继续她的教育并获得教师学位。故选A项。 根据第二段中“I won’t say it was easy. I still had all the responsibility for two teenage daughters, making my house a home, preparing meals, planning social events, making sure their homework was done, and finding time to do my own homework. (我不会说这很容易。我仍然要承担照顾两个十几岁女儿的所有责任:把家收拾得像个家,准备饭菜,策划社交活动,确保她们完成家庭作业,还要找时间做我自己的家庭作业。)”可知,繁重的家务使作者获得学位的道路艰难。故选B项。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“‘You’ll be forty anyway,’ she said matter-of-factly. ‘Do you wanna be forty with a degree or forty without a degree?’ And then she walked out of the room. I stared after her incredulously(表示怀疑地). Out of the mouth of babes! In that moment, my life changed. I wanted to be forty with a college degree! (‘反正你也要四十岁了,’她实事求是地说。‘你想在40岁时有学位还是40岁时没有学位?’然后她走出了房间。我怀疑地盯着她的背影。从婴儿嘴里说出来的!在那一刻,我的生活改变了。我想在四十岁的时候拿到大学学位!)”可知,是对自己年龄的新认识促使作者继续她的教育。故选B项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,根据最后一段中“I don’t know what got me to the finish line, but four months after my fortieth birthday, I walked proudly across the stage to receive my Bachelor’s in Education. Three years later, I received my Master’s in English. At the age of sixty-five, I retired from teaching high-school English. (我不知道是什么把我带到了终点线,但在我四十岁生日四个月后,我自豪地走过讲台,接受了我的教育学学士学位。三年后,我获得了英语硕士学位。65岁时,我从高中英语教师的岗位上退休了。)”可知,作者37岁开始准备继续求学,在家务和工作中挤时间努力学习,在面对低谷时能够重振决心,最终成功成为一名教师。作者是个勤奋且有决心的人。故选C项。 C Australian bioacoustics (生物声学) expert Brian Miller’s work focuses on identifying and understanding the behaviours of Antarctic marine mammals by listening to underwater audio recordings. However, sorting through it is a massive task. “We’ve now amassed a collection of more than 100,000 hours of recordings from the Antarctic, but we’ve always been constrained by our ability to process these data efficiently,” he says. Listening to all these recordings would take decades. As well as being boring to do, that’s simply too slow for the conservation action needed to save threatened species. But with new technologies doing the “thinking” for us, that could be about to change. A time-saving solution has been for Brian’s team to apply AI algorithms to the task. Using computers to process data isn’t new to conservation research, but in the past, they’ve been limited in what they can accomplish. They start to struggle when the data gets more complicated. In comparison, AI programs can learn and improve their ability to interpret data. They can process data that would take a research team months to finish, in a matter of hours. In some cases, they are more accurate than their human counterparts, and the algorithms only improve with time as they gather more and more training data. Of course, the human element can never be entirely removed from research. “It’s people who can work closely with people who have AI experience, and have the ability to make the algorithm smarter…I think that’s a pretty good recipe for success,” Brian says. Perhaps the best thing about the use of AI in conservation is that it lets researchers focus on what’s important. “This frees us up to think about the bigger picture problems. It frees us up to think about designing better studies to focus on the analysis, to focus on the gaps… it really is a revolution,” Brian says. “My prediction would be that this is going to become much more widespread across science in general.” 8. Why does the author mention Brian Miller in the first paragraph? A To explain the importance of protecting endangered species. B. To introduce the new technologies applied in his research team. C. To emphasize the inefficiency of the current data processing ability. D. To show the difficulty in identifying the behaviors of marine mammals. 9. What was the disadvantage of computers used in the previous research? A. They were totally inaccurate. B. They failed to interact with people. C. They were unable to interpret data. D. They failed to process complex data efficiently. 10. What does the underlined word “recipe” in Paragraph 4 refer to? A. Guide. B. Chance. C. Moment. D. Strategy. 11. What can we learn from the last paragraph? A. AI programs are to gain more popularity in science. B. Researchers focus on unimportant problems currently. C. Better studies need to be designed to ensure efficiency. D. Human elements will be entirely removed from research. C 9. D 10. D 11. 根据第一段“We’ve now amassed a collection of more than 100,000 hours of recordings from the Antarctic, but we’ve always been constrained by our ability to process these data efficiently,” he says. Listening to all these recordings would take decades. As well as being boring to do, that’s simply too slow for the conservation action needed to save threatened species.”(“我们现在已经从南极收集了超过10万小时的录音,但我们一直受到有效处理这些数据的能力的限制,”他说。 根据第三段“Using computers to process data isn’t new to conservation research, but in the past, they’ve been limited in what they can accomplish. They start to struggle when the data gets more complicated.”(使用计算机处理数据对保护研究来说并不新鲜,但在过去,它们所能完成的工作一直受到限制。 根据第四段“It’s people who can work closely with people who have AI experience, and have the ability to make the algorithm smarter”(能与人密切合作的人有人工智能经验,有能力让算法更智能)可知,能与人密切合作的人有人工智能经验,有能力让算法更智能,这是成功的好策略。 根据文章最后一段“My prediction would be that this is going to become much more widespread across science in general.”(我预测这将在科学领域中变得更加普遍。) A。 D The first model of Apple’s iPhone was launched 15 years ago. Since then, many different smartphones have been introduced. The devices now influence our daily lives in many ways. One thing that has changed is that many people now use their phones to easily take pictures anywhere, anytime, without the need for a camera. Not surprisingly, this change has caused major business problems for camera manufacturers. Today, many smartphones have high-quality cameras designed to produce better pictures than the ones most people used in the past for personal photographs. And some news photographers, for example, have found advantages in using them in their work. The Associated Press recently asked some of its photographers who use iPhones to describe how they use the devices. Brynn Anderson is based in the AP in Atlanta, Georgia. She said: “Sometimes being a photographer with a larger camera can be intimidating to the person being photographed. Using a phone makes it easier for me to get intimate (亲密的) moments that might not happen.” Dita Alangkara covers Jakarta, Indonesia for the AP. He said shooting with a smartphone opens up more possibilities on the streets of Jakarta. “People are so used to seeing others taking photos with their gadgets that they just ignore me. This gives me a whole new perspective to explore ...” Khalil Hamra is an AP photographer in Istanbul, Turkey. He said: “Truth be told, every time I take a nice picture with my phone, I feel that something is missing and could have been better if I took it with my professional camera.” Oded Balilty is based in Tel Aviv, Israel. “It is a different tool that definitely has changed what we do,” he said of the iPhone. But, he added: “It’s the photographer, not the device, that determines the quality of a photo.” 12. What has caused major business problems for camera industry? A. Higher production cost. B. Lack of technical progress. C. Fewer news photographers. D. Decrease in market demand. 13. Which of the following most probably likes seeking perfection? A. Brynn Anderson. B. Dita Alangkara. C. Khalil Hamra. D. Oded Balilty. 14. How does the author develop the passage? A. By offering some reasons. B. By giving some examples. C. By analyzing some facts. D. By making some comparisons. 15. What’s the best title of the passage? A. A New “Camera” Has Come B. Smartphone: The Best Choice for You C. Smartphone: To Use or to Drop D. Camera: The Last Choice for You 【答案】12. D 13. C 14. B 15. 根据第二段“One thing that has changed is that many people now use their phones to easily take pictures anywhere, anytime, without the need for a camera. Not surprisingly, this change has caused major business problems for camera manufacturers.(有一件事发生了变化,那就是许多人现在可以随时随地轻松地使用手机拍照,而不需要相机。 根据倒数第二段“Khalil Hamra is an AP photographer in Istanbul, Turkey. He said: “Truth be told, every time I take a nice picture with my phone, I feel that something is missing and could have been better if I took it with my professional camera.”(哈利勒·哈姆拉是美联社驻土耳其伊斯坦布尔的摄影师。 根据第四段“Brynn Anderson is based in the AP in Atlanta, Georgia.(布林·安德森在乔治亚州亚特兰大的美联社报道)”;第五段“Dita Alangkara covers Jakarta, Indonesia for the AP.( Dita Alangkara为美联社报道印尼雅加达)”;第六段“Khalil Hamra is an AP photographer in Istanbul, Turkey.(哈利勒·哈姆拉是美联社驻土耳其伊斯坦布尔的摄影师)”以及最后一段“Oded Balilty is based in Tel Aviv, Israel.(Oded Balilty在以色列特拉维夫工作)”可知,作者主要通过举例的方式来揭示文章的主题,作者主要列举了四位新闻摄影者。 根据第一段“The first model of Apple’s iPhone was launched 15 years ago. Since then, many different smartphones have been introduced. The devices now influence our daily lives in many ways. 故选A。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Let’s begin with a question: If you had to make one life choice, right now, to set yourself on the path to future happiness, what would it be? Would you choose to put more money into savings each month? To change careers?___16___? What single choice could best ensure that when you reach your final days and look back, you’ll feel that you’ve lived a good life? ___17___. Seventy-six percent said that becoming rich was their number one goal. Fifty percent said a major goal was to become famous. More than a decade later, after millennials (千禧一代) had spent more time as adults, similar questions were asked again. ___18___, but the top goals again included things like making money, having a successful career, and becoming debt-free. These are common and practical goals that extend across generations and borders. ___19___. even though most of us understand that these things do not necessarily make for a happy life on their own. All day long we were surrounded by messages about what will make us happy. If a friend buys a new car, we might wonder if a newer car would make our own life better. As we scroll social media feeds, seeing only pictures of fantastic parties, we might wonder if our own life is lacking in parties. Over time, therefore, we develop the feeling that our life is here, now, and the things we need for a good life are over there, or in the future. ___20___. However, the truth is: The good life is a complicated life. The good life is a process. It includes sorrows, joys, calm, lightness, burdens, struggles, achievements, setbacks, leaps forward, and terrible falls. A. Always just out of reach B. Fame was now lower on the list C. Would you decide to travel more D. What have you achieved in the past years E It’s only human nature to pursue material comforts F. Success in life is often measured by title, salary and achievement G. In a 2007 survey, millennials were asked about their most important life goals 【答案】16. C 17. G 18. B 19. F 20. A 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇议论文。我们总认为幸福的生活离我们很遥远,其实,美好的生活就在于珍惜当下、享受过程。 【16题详解】 根据上文“Would you choose to put more money into savings each month? To change careers?(你会选择每个月存更多钱吗?换工作?)”以及后文“What single choice could best ensure that when you reach your final days and look back, you’ll feel that you’ve lived a good life?(当你走到生命的最后一天,回首往事,你会觉得自己过得很好,有什么选择能最好地确保这一点呢?)”可知,本句与上文并列,都是针对幸福的设问句。故C选项“你会决定多出去旅游吗”符合语境,故选C。 【17题详解】 根据后文“Seventy-six percent said that becoming rich was their number one goal. Fifty percent said a major goal was to become famous.(76%的人表示,致富是他们的首要目标。50%的人说他们的主要目标是成名)”可知,后文主要列举了调查结果关于目标的调查情况。故G选项“在2007年的一项调查中,千禧一代被问及他们最重要的人生目标是什么”符合语境,故选G。 【18题详解】 根据上文“Seventy-six percent said that becoming rich was their number one goal. Fifty percent said a major goal was to become famous. More than a decade later, after millennials (千禧一代) had spent more time as adults, similar questions were asked again.(76%的人表示,致富是他们的首要目标。50%的人说他们的主要目标是成名。十多年后,在千禧一代成年后,类似的问题再次被问到)”以及后文“but the top goals again included things like making money, having a successful career, and becoming debt-free.(但最重要的目标还是包括赚钱、事业有成和摆脱债务)”可知,千禧一代中成名不再重要了,下文but the top goals暗示这里在谈论人们追求的目标,fame与making money 以及having a successful career都属于此范畴,故B选项“名声现在排名靠后了”符合语境,故选B。 【19题详解】 根据后文“even though most of us understand that these things do not necessarily make for a happy life on their own. (尽管我们大多数人都明白,这些事情本身并不一定能让我们过上幸福的生活)”可知,下句中的 these things暗示上句提到了一些并列的事物,故F选项“人生的成功通常是用头衔、薪水和成就来衡量的”符合语境,故选F。 【20题详解】 根据上文“Over time, therefore, we develop the feeling that our life is here, now, and the things we need for a good life are over there, or in the future.(因此,随着时间的推移,我们会产生这样一种感觉:我们的生活就在这里,现在,而我们需要的美好生活的东西在那里,或者在未来)”可知,上句指出我们渴望的美好生活总是可望而不可得,遥不可及,本句是对此意的进一步补充说明。故A选项“总是够不着”符合语境,故选A。 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 In Jefferson Elementary School, the students went wild with excitement on hearing the announcement of the upcoming science exhibition. Alex, who lived in a suburban neighborhood, was getting ready for bed when he heard the sound of fire alarms and screams coming from the outside. He quickly realized that there was a fire in his neighborhood and that his neighbors might be in danger. He looked outside and saw that one of his neighbors’ houses was on fire. He knew that he had to act quickly to help his neighbors. After calling 911, he ran outside and heard his neighbors’ little son crying inside their burning house. “He must be quite scared,” Alex thought. Alex quickly assessed the situation and found that the house was almost surrounded by flames (火焰). The best way out was through the front door, but it was blocked by fire as well. He knew that he had to find another way to help the boy escape. He ran back to his house, grabbed a ladder and then rushed toward his neighbors’ house. He placed the ladder against the second-story window and managed to help the little boy climb down to safety. Once the boy was safe on the ground, Alex climbed up into the burning house again to see if anyone else was trapped. As he made his way through the smoke, he heard cries for help from a bedroom on the third floor. He quickly ran up the stairs and found an elderly woman who was too weak to move. Alex quickly picked her up and carried her down the stairs to safety. By this time, many firemen had arrived, and they managed to put out the flames. Looking around, Alex saw that other houses in the neighborhood were also on fire. He realized that the fire was spreading quickly and that more people needed help. Without hesitation, Alex joined those firemen, who were working tirelessly to put out the flames. He helped elderly neighbors, families with young children, and even pets. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 After hours of effort, fortunately, the fire was finally put out. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When he woke up the next morning, he found his action didn’t go unnoticed by his school. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: After hours of effort, fortunately, the fire was finally put out. Alex breathed a sigh of relief, excited tears streaming down his cheeks. His neighbors who lived through the fire couldn’t help but thank him and the firefighters for their timely rescue. The gentle moonlight was shinning on everyone’s face, recording this extraordinary night. Exhaustion began to set in, but a flush of warmth surged through Alex’s mind. Having made sure everyone was safe, he quietly left the scene, went back to his room and climbed into his bed to enjoy a sound sleep. When he woke up the next morning, he found his action didn’t go unnoticed by his school. A call from his principal came announcing he was awarded the title of School Hero. “But for your bravery, the neighbourhood would have suffered great losses,” the principal expressed his admiration. Joy of being recognized welled up in Alex’s heart. But for him, the greatest award was that he had made a difference in others’ lives. The fire also taught Alex an important lesson about the power of community. He became convinced that with kindness, bravery and willingness to help, nothing was impossible for a community. 词汇激活 行为类 ①感谢:thank /appreciate ②开始:begin/start ③确保:make sure/ensure 情绪类 ①激动的:excited/ thrilled ②喜悦:joy/happiness 【点睛】[高分句型1] His neighbors who lived through the fire couldn’t help but thank him and the firefighters for their timely rescue. I stared after her incredulously (表示怀疑地). Out of the mouth of babes! In that moment, my life changed. I wanted to be forty with a college degree! I don’t know what got me to the finish line but four months after my fortieth birthday, I walked proudly across the stage to receive my Bachelor’s in Education. 4. Overwhelming household chores. C. Financial crisis caused by low-paying jobs. D. Strict requirements from teachers. 6. What was the turning point that motivated the author to carry on with her education? A. Promotion at work. B. A new realization about her age. C. A new-found love for learning. D. A conversation with her friend. 7. Which of the following can best describe the author? A. Ambitious and curious. B. Honest and adventurous. C. Diligent and determined. D. Courageous and considerate. C Australian bioacoustics (生物声学) expert Brian Miller’s work focuses on identifying and understanding the behaviours of Antarctic marine mammals by listening to underwater audio recordings. B. As he made his way through the smoke he heard cries for help from a bedroom on the third floor. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力 1—5 CBBCA 6—10 ABBCC 11—15 BAACC 16—20 ABABC 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
