As always, we are here to protect the environment by getting people to recycle their things. So, everyone is welcome to sell things they no longer need. Date: July 20, 202 Time: 10 a. m.—5 p. m. Place: ABC Park Note: To sign up (报名), visit Flea Market Facebook page. Then, fill in the form and pay $50 for each spot (场所). The last day to sign up is June 10th. Food and drink vendors (商贩) are not allowed. 1. According to the poster, which is true? A. The ABC Flea Market takes place once a month. B. You can rent (租用) a table and a chair from the ABC Park. C. All vendors can park their cars for free for an hour. D. Flea market vendors need to pay $50 for each spot to sell things. 2. Which of the following can you NOT buy at the ABC Flea Market? A. B. C. D. 3. What does the underlined word “refund” mean? A. The money you get back when you return something. B. The money you pay for tables and chairs. C. The money you pay for services like cleaning and parking. D. The money you make from selling things. 4. If you sign up for two spots and park your car in the ABC Park for five hours, how much will you pay for the event in total? A. $80. B. $130. C. $110. D. $90. D 2. A 3. C 4. 根据“Then, fill in the form and pay $50 for each spot.” 根据“Food and drink vendors are not allowed.” 故选A。 根据“Then, fill in the form and pay $50 for each spot.”和“If you cancel before July 10th, you’ll get a 90% refund.”可知,此处提到的退款是指之前交付的50美元每个摊位费用;再根据“ABC Park only provides the space, so you need to bring your own tables and chairs. Parking spaces in the ABC Park parking lot are available for $2 per hour.” 根据“Then, fill in the form and pay $50 for each spot.”和“Parking spaces in the ABC Park parking lot are available for $2 per hour.” C。 B The “April snow” is here! It’s not real snow, of course, it’s catkins (飞絮) from willows and poplar trees in spring. For some people, this “snow” is not welcomed. Catkins can cause allergies (过敏), making people’s noses, eyes, and skin uncomfortable. In spring, the female (雌性的) trees grow lots of flowers. When these flowers finish growing, they produce cotton-like seeds that spread through the air. Luckily, scientists have found many ways to control catkins. Doing “gender change surgery (变性手术)” on willow and poplar trees is one of them. People cut off the branches of female trees and replace them with branches from male (雄性的) trees. This cuts down the number of catkins. However, this way is slow and expensive. A skilled worker can do the “surgery” on less than ten trees a day. From 2008 to 2018, only around 1, 000 trees were treated in Beijing. Scientists also use special injections (注射剂) to reduce the number of catkins on trees. These injections make the trees mainly use their energy to grow bigger and get more leaves, not to make catkins. Xu Qinming, an expert, said that this method is safe for the trees. However, the trees need to get injections every year to keep the catkins numbers under control. Other than injections, the trees can “take medicine”, too. This medicine can be sprayed onto the trees before the catkins form, which can quickly reduce catkins numbers. Still, people need to be careful about how much of the medicine they use and when they use it, or they might hurt the environment. 5. What can we know from paragraph one? A. Catkins are hard to see. B. It’s normal to snow in April. C. People welcome willows. D. It’s uncomfortable to breath in catkins. 6. How many ways are introduced to deal with catkins? A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four. 7. What is the disadvantage of using injections according to the passage? A. Trees need to be injected every year. B. It needs many skilled workers to do it. C. It is slow and expensive. D. It’s bad for the trees and environment. 8 What is the main idea of the passage? A. How to deal with catkins allergies. B. How to control catkins with new technology. C. How to tell male and female willow trees apart. D. How to protect willow and polar trees. D 6. C 7. A 8. 根据第二段中的“Doing ‘gender change surgery (变性手术)’ on willow and poplar trees is one of them.”、第三段中的“Scientists also use special injections (注射剂) to reduce the number of catkins on trees.”以及最后一段中的“Other than injections, the trees can ‘take medicine’, too.” 根据第三段中的“However, the trees need to get injections every year to keep the catkins numbers under control.” 故选A。 B。 C Where was that cashier (收银员)? I quickly looked at my watch. I hardly had enough time to eat a sandwich and rush back to work. I looked around the nearly empty restaurant, but the cashier was nowhere in sight. A woman stood wiping (擦拭) the far end of the counter (柜台). She looked at me coldly with sad, dark eyes. I waited, getting angry. I’d been standing there for at least three minutes! Controlling my anger, I remembered Mom’s words. “Whenever you find yourself in an unpleasant situation, just think about what is missing. If someone is unkind, then kindness is missing. If someone is hateful, then love is missing. If we will be what’s missing, then we’ll provide whatever the situation needs.” And here I was in an unpleasant situation. How should I “be what’s missing”? What was missing was service. Maybe I should just jump behind the counter and take my own order. Just then the woman walked slowly toward me. “May I help you?” she asked still coldly. She looked so tired. No doubt, she was overworked. I took a deep breath. With Mom’s words ringing in my head, I gave the woman my order and smiled. “How are you today?” My question seemed to surprise her. She eyed me for a second before answering. “Not too good.” “I’m sorry,” I said. “I hope it gets better starting right now.” She almost smiled as she looked at me. “Thanks. I hope you’re right. I should also say sorry to you. I have worked a whole day without rest.” I thought to myself as I ate my sandwich. We’re all the same, really. We have problems and angers. We get tired and we hurt. We need to be nicer to each other. After eating, I wiped the table cleaner than usual, and put the tray (托盘) back nicely on the stand. The woman was watching me, with a big smile on her face. “Be what’s missing” It worked. 9. How did the writer feel when he didn’t find the cashier? A. Curious. B. Impatient. C. Sad. D. Surprised. 10. According to the writer, what was missing in the restaurant? A. Kindness. B. Love. C. Service. D. Patience. 11. Why did the woman look unfriendly? A. Because she didn’t like the writer. B. Because she didn’t like the job. C. Because she was ill. D. Because she had worked for a long time. 12. What can be the best title for this text? A. Anger Follows Impatience B. Remember What Your Mom Said C. Be What’s Missing D. Try to Be Patient 【答案】9. B 10. C 11. D 12. 8. What is the main idea of the passage? A. How to deal with catkins allergies. B. How to control catkins with new technology. C. How to tell male and female willow trees apart. D. How to protect willow and polar trees. C Where was that cashier (收银员)? “May I help you?” she asked, still coldly. “Be what’s missing.” It worked. 9. How did the writer feel when he didn’t find the cashier? A. Curious. B. Impatient. C. Sad. D. Surprised. 10. According to the writer, what was missing in the restaurant? A Kindness. B. Love. C. Service. D. Patience. 11 Why did the woman look unfriendly? A. Because she didn’t like the writer. B. Because she didn’t like the job. C. Because she was ill. D. Because she had worked for a long time. 12. What can be the best title for this text? A. Anger Follows Impatience B.
