When night falls, trunks (后备箱) of private cars are turned into mobile stalls (摊位) on the street. They sell everything from drinks to clothes at good prices. Lots of customers would like to buy something each time they pass by. This is the trunk market which has become popular in many cities.
Those who sell things at the stalls are mostly young people. Many young stall holders say they set up the stalls out of interest. They think they might be able to make some money after work. And they find the lively market brings them a feeling of satisfaction. “Every time I work at my stall, I get to talk with nice passers-by. It feels great to meet new friends,” said a stallholder. “I really enjoy hearing people tell me how good my coffee is,” another stallholder said.
But young people can’t expect to make a lot of money from the business because the number would fluctuate. For example, a coffee stall may sell 60 cups of coffee on a good day, but less than 10 cup another day. And when the weather is bad, the stallholder couldn’t even go out to the market.
While enjoying the fun of buying things at the trunk market, some people also worry about its development. As the food sold there is mostly fast food, no one knows for sure if the food is safe. And each time the market closes, rubbish can be seen everywhere on the street. Besides, people living nearby may find it noisy.
Thankfully, some areas are already taking action to make the market go further.

7. What can we infer from the text?

C. All the people like the things sold at the trunk market.

The top-selling album (唱片), Songs of the Humpback Whale (座头鲸之歌), was made public in 1970. This collection of nature recordings changed the way many people thought about whales, and it helped save thousands of whales’ lives.
The album might never have been made without a sound engineer named Frank Watlington. In the 1960s, Watlington was making underwater recordings when he noticed some strange, deep sounds. He realized they were coming from whales. Watlington played the recordings for a pair of scientists named Roger and Katy Payne. When they listened, they fell in love with these beautiful voices at once.
Katy Payne studied music as well as animals and she was greatly surprised at the fact that the whales communicated by using sounds like an opera singer. She also noticed another interesting fact: the sounds had clear patterns (模式). According to scientists, an animal sound with a repeating pattern is called a song. Some scientists even compared these singing animals to musicians.
The Paynes thought that other people should also hear the beauty of the whales’ songs. So Roger made the recordings into an album. At the time when the album came out, whales were often caught, killed and traded for money. Some kinds were even in danger of dying out. Most people had never thought that whales could communicate through songs. But after hearing the album, they began to think differently.
The album led people to take action to save whales. Musicians began using whale songs in their music and whales were included in movies and television shows. In 1982, a ban (禁令) to stop deep-sea whaling was made. Before it, in the 1950s and 1960s, more than fifty thousand whales per year were killed. After it, the number went down below two thousand.
This album helped people have a better understanding of whales. It also allowed whales to finally share their songs with the human world. However, it might seem impossible that just one album could help save the lives of so many whales. Everyone should play a part in it. So why not take action from now on?
8. Who first found the special voices of the whales?
A. An opera singer. B. An animal scientist. C. A sound engineer.
9. What fact about the whales surprised Katy Payne?
A. They could sing like an opera singer.
B. They could communicate through songs.
C. They could talk with scientists.
10. Which is one of the values of the album?
A. It completely stopped deep-sea whaling.
B. It helped people understand whales better.
C. It made some music and movie stars popular.
11. What is the purpose of the passage?
A. To call on people to save whales.
B. To show that whales are born singers.
C. To introduce whales’ living habits.

Yang Jun’ao, a 16-year-old student from Nanxian County, Hunan Province, invented a “lotus root harvesting robot (采藕机器人)”.
“I got the idea when I saw my grandmother harvesting lotus roots,” Yang said. His grandmother needed to work very hard under the hot sun and sometimes would badly hurt her fingers when using her harvesting tools.
To make things easier for his grandmother, Yang thought of creating a machine that could automatically (自动地) harvest lotus roots. With the help of his teacher, Yang spent nearly a year building the model of the robot.
The robot moves on its own through the muddy field. It uses image recognition (图像识别) to find roots by looking at the color of the lotus leaves. The machine’s arm then cuts the mature (成熟的) lotus roots.
When Yang showed the machine to his grandmother, she was happy and gave some useful suggestions for improvement. She suggested using the audio player to show the robot’s location in dense (稠密的) lotus leaves. “My grandmother’s suggestion reminded me that any invention must have true value,” said Yang.
Although Yang thought he still needed to make improvements, like finding cheaper ways to make the machines, his spirit was praised by many people. His teacher once spoke highly of Yang, “He is a boy who always thinks creatively. Whenever he comes across problems in life, he always works hard to solve them.”
