David Steeves, a technician of forest resources, said the fire in the Halifax area is about 85% controlled, sits at 9.5 square kilometre and is unlikely to grow thanks to the firefighting efforts and long-awaited rain. The news was also good across the province, where Premier Tim Houston said the total number of active wildfires reduced from 10 in the morning to five by mid-afternoon. “If you step outside, you will see something beautiful, rain, and hopefully lots of it,” he told an afternoon briefing (简报). The blaze that broke out Sunday in the Halifax area raced through a number of other places, burning up about 200 buildings — including 151 homes — and forcing the evacuation (疏散) of more than 16,000 people. Meanwhile, at the provincial wildfire centre in Shubenacadie, north of Halifax, about 20 Canadian Armed Forces soldiers stood in the pouring rain outside a light armored vehicle (装甲车). Lt. Col. Michael Blanchette said the soldiers had arrived on a “fact-finding task” to see what support was needed in the effort to fight the fires. In Shelburne County, meanwhile, 6,700 people — about half the city’s population — remained out of their homes as the blaze that forced their evacuation continued to burn out of control. Dave Rockwood, a spokesman for the Department of Natural Resourees, said it remained to be seen that there would be no further growth and that firefighters could use more direct ways to control it. Two other fires which were considered out of control on Saturday morning were finally controled later in the day, he said. 4. What can we infer from the second paragraph? A. Rain helps firefighting a lot. B. Something beautiful can be seen in the rain. C. Nova Scotia’s fire was the largest recorded one in history. D. The total number of active wildfires in Nova Scotia was 15. 5. What does the underlined word “blaze” mean in Paragraph 3? A. Rain. B. Finding. C. Task. D. Fire. 6. What is Rockwood’s attitude towards the wildfire? A. Careful. B. Positive. C. Angry. D. Frightened. 7. What is the text? A. A research paper. B. A diary entry. C. A news report. D. A disaster survey. A 5. D 6. A 7. 根据第二段“David Steeves, a technician of forest resources, said the fire in the Halifax area is about 85% controlled, sits at 9.5 square kilometre and is unlikely to grow thanks to the firefighting efforts and long-awaited rain. The news was also good across the province, where Premier Tim Houston said the total number of active wildfires reduced from 10 in the morning to five by mid-afternoon. (森林资源的技术人员大卫·斯蒂夫斯说,哈利法克斯地区的火势已得到85%的控制,火势面积为9.5平方公里,由于灭火努力和期待已久的降雨,火势不太可能扩大。全省的情况也很好,省长蒂姆·休斯顿说,活跃的野火总数从上午的10起减少到下午的5起)”可推知,本段通过事实列举和引言强调雨水使得野火得到缓解,故选A项。 【5题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段的 “The blaze that broke out Sunday in the Halifax area raced through a number of other places, burning up about 200 buildings — including 151 homes — and forcing the evacuation (疏散) of more than 16, 000 people. (周日发生在哈利法克斯地区的大火席卷了其他一些地方,烧毁了大约200栋建筑——包括151栋住宅——并迫使16000多人撤离)” 和第四段“forced their evacuation continued to burn out of control.(他们被迫撤离,火势继续失控)”可知,第三段划线词的含义为“野火”。故选D项。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段的“Dave Rockwood, a spokesman for the Department of Natural Resourees, said it remained to be seen that there would be no further growth and that firefighters could use more direct ways to control it.(国家自然资源部发言人戴夫·洛克伍德表示,火势是否会进一步增长,消防员是否可以使用更直接的方法来控制火势,还有待观察)”可推知,洛克伍德对火势不会进一步蔓延持谨慎态度。故选A项。 根据第一段“HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — officials in Canada’s Atlantic Coast province of Nova Scotia said Saturday a wildfire that forced thousands of people to leave their homes over the past week is now largely controlled because of rain.(新斯科舍省哈利法克斯——加拿大大西洋沿岸新斯科舍省的官员周六表示,由于降雨,过去一周迫使数千人离开家园的野火现已基本得到控制)”、第二段的“he told an afternoon briefing(他在下午的新闻发布会上说)”可知,本文报道了加拿大大西洋沿岸新斯科舍省的一场野火。 C Habit is a behaviour you do regularly As a professor who studies how to help students become better readers and writers, I can tell you that research shows habits have a loop (循环). Here are the things you need to make a studying loop: ●A set time to study every day. ●A cue (提示) to start studying. ●An environment that helps you stick to your studying routine (常规). ●A prize for studying. When you do things at the same time every day, it is easier to remember to do them. To determine how much time you should set aside each day to study, multiply (乘) your grade level by 10 minutes. That means if you’re in third grade, you would plan to spend about 30 minutes per day studying. Spending more time than that on a regular basis can cause stress, anxiety and possibly destroy healthy sleep habits. Studying at the same time every day is one cue. but you may need something more specific when first forming your habit. This can be a calendar reminder you set on your phone. or something as simple as a card with the word “study” printed on the front. To help yourself study, you need a place set up for work and not for doing other things. Do not study on your bed— 4that’s for sleeping— 4or in front of the television, or anywhere it’s difficult to hold and use the materials you need. Best option: a table or desk with good lighting. Your study place should limit distractions (干扰). That includes other people’s conversations and all media: TV, video games, social media, texts or music. The prize. That said, after you finish studying, you can give yourself a little gaming or social media time as your prize. With time, the studying itself will become its own prize. Improving your knowledge and skills will give you a sense of achievement and make you more confident and happier at school. But while forming your study habit, a really fun prize will help you stick with it. 8. What are the four parts of a habit loop? A. Hobby, cue, routine, prize. B. Set time, cue, environment, prize. C. Hobby, cue, environment, achievement. D. Hobby, environment, routine, achievement. 9. How long should a fourth-grade student spend studying each day? A. 10 minutes. B. 20 minutes. C. 30 minutes. D. 40 minutes. 10. What can your study place keep according to the author? A. A comfortable bed. B. A desk with a TV. C. A table with good lighting. D. A table with a music player. 11. What’s the best title for the text? A. What Is the Most Reasonable Way to Study? B. How Can You Make Studying a Daily Habit? C. How to Get Rid of Distractions While Studying? D. What Should You Do to Become a Better Learner? B 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第一段“Here are the things you need to make a studying loop: ●A set time to study every day. ●A cue (提示) to start studying. ●An environment that helps you stick to your studying routine (常规). ●A prize for studying.(这里有一些你需要做的事情来形成一个学习循环:每天固定的学习时间。开始学习的提示。一个能帮助你坚持学习规律的环境。学习奖励)”可知,习惯循环的四个部分是规定时间、提示、环境、奖励。故选B项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“To determine how much time you should set aside each day to study, multiply (乘) your grade level by 10 minutes. That means if you’re in third grade, you would plan to spend about 30 minutes per day studying.(为了确定你每天应该留出多少时间来学习,把你的年级水平乘以10分钟。这意味着,如果你上三年级,你会计划每天花大约30分钟学习)”可知,把你的年级水平乘以10分钟就是学习时间,所以四年级学生每天应该花4x10=40分钟。故选D项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章倒数第二段“Best option: a table or desk with good lighting. Your study place should limit distractions (干扰). That includes other people’s conversations and all media: TV, video games, social media, texts or music.(最好的选择:一张有良好照明的桌子或书桌。你的学习场所应该限制干扰。这包括其他人的谈话和所有媒体:电视、电子游戏、社交媒体、短信或音乐)”可知,学习的地方应该避免床、电视、媒体设备,包括音乐的出现,而一张有好的灯光的桌子是不错的选择。故选C项。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Habit is a behaviour you do regularly (有规律的). As a professor who studies how to help students become better readers and writers, I can tell you that research shows habits have a loop (循环). Here are the things you need to make a studying loop: ●A set time to study every day. ●A cue (提示) to start studying. ●An environment that helps you stick to your studying routine (常规). ●A prize for studying.(习惯是你经常做的行为。 D Conversation around sustainability (可持续发展) has been growing in recent years, with a whole wave of new words entering the dictionary to describe its influence across many topics. To honour Earth Day, we’re exploring the developing language of sustainability in our day-to-day lives. The climate emergency took on new meanings in 2018 thanks to climate activist Greta Thunberg. Her speeches and strikes lighted a global conversation and since then, we’ve seen many climate-related words entering the Collins Word of the Year shortlists including “rewilding” and “climate anxiety”. We also saw two climate words win CollinsWOTY: single use (2018) and climate strike (2019). This increased everyday conversation around our planet also means we’re seeing new words enter the dictionary on an ongoing basis. Recent entries include climate justice (正义), the formulation of policies (政策的制定) to fight climate change that do not place an unfair pressure on poorer and local communities, and zero waste, a situation in which people’s activities produce nothing that cannot be reused, re-purposed, or recycled. The more we talk about the climate crisis, the more forced we are to find solutions. This means we’re seeing new language around energy production. One example is solar park, which is an area of land that has been set aside for the generation of solar energy. Solar parks are a renewable energy source that can reduce carbon emissions (碳排放). Other energy-related words include blue hydrogen (氢) and green hydrogen, new entries to the Collins Dictionary, both described as a commercially produced hydrogen that creates little to no emissions of CO2. Fighting the climate crisis depends on big businesses and governments using greener practices. But there are lots of ways we can protect our planet as individuals and these little changes have led to developing words around nature, diet, and lifestyle. 12. Which of the following win CollinsWOTY? A. Rewilding and climate anxiety. B. Single use and climate strike. C. Climate justice and zero waste. D. Blue hydrogen and green hydrogen. 13. Why is solar park mentioned in the text? A. To warn the climate danger. B. To explain the carbon emissions. C. To suggest the park’s new use. D. To show new energy-related words. 14. What does the text mainly focus on? A. The climate emergency. B. The Collins Dictionary. C. The developing climate language. D. The celebration of Earth Day. 15. What is probably continued with the text? A. Examples of new words about nature, diet and lifestyle. B. Individual protection of our planet. C. Discussion about sustainability. D. Solutions to the climate change. B 13. D 14. C 15. 根据第二段“We also saw two climate words win CollinsWOTY: single use (2018) and climate strike (2019).(我们还看到两个气候词汇赢得了柯林斯年度词汇奖:single use(2018)和climate strike(2019))” 可知,赢得了柯林斯年度词汇奖的气候词汇是single use和climate strike。 根据第一段“To honour Earth Day, we’re exploring the developing language of sustainability in our day-to-day lives.(为了纪念地球日,我们正在探索在我们的日常生活中发展可持续发展的语言)”以及第四段 “Other energy-related words include blue hydrogen (氢) and green hydrogen, new entries to the Collins Dictionary, both described as a commercially produced hydrogen that creates little to no emissions of CO2.(其他与能源相关的词汇还包括《柯林斯词典》新收录的蓝氢(blue hydrogen)和绿氢(green hydrogen),它们都被描述为一种商业生产的氢,几乎不产生二氧化碳排放)”可推知,作者提及 solar park意在展示与新能源相关的词汇。 根据第一段“To honour Earth Day, we’re exploring the developing language of sustainability in our day-to-day lives.(为了纪念地球日,我们正在探索在我们的日常生活中发展可持续发展的语言)”结合本文主要介绍了日常生活中出现的气候类新语言。 根据最后一段“But there are lots of ways we can protect our planet as individuals and these little changes have led to developing words around nature, diet, and lifestyle.(但作为个人,我们有很多方法可以保护我们的星球,这些小小的改变导致了围绕自然、饮食和生活方式的词汇的发展)”可推知,这篇文章接着将继续列举应对气候危机所产生的关于自然、饮食和生活方式的新词汇。故选A。 Dealing with Stress in Sports Sports are a great way to have fun while staying fit. Sports also teach important life lessons like working as a team. ___16___ . Having a healthy attitude about sports and learning to deal with the stress that comes with competing can help you perform your best. Competing always leads to some stress. And that can be good. ___17___ . But too much stress can take the fun out of a sport and make it hard to perform. If you think there might be too much stress around competing, talk to your parents and coach. Making some changes can help. If you have too much going on, think about limiting practice time or only doing one sport or activity per season. ___18___ . So it’s important to know how to deal with it. Trying different ways during practice helps you know what will work best for you during competition. You can try to take a deep breath and hold it in for about 5 seconds, then release (释放) it slowly. Repeat those five times. You can also think positively and develop positive self-talk, like saying “I learn from my mistakes.” “I’m in control of my feelings.” “I can make this goal!” to help keep the negative (消极的) thoughts away. Keep stress levels down when you aren’t competing. ___19___ . Besides, doing something fun and relaxing is great, such as taking a break from competing and going for a walk, riding a bike, seeing a movie or hanging out with friends. Finally don’t forget that no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes in sports. It is part of the game. ___20___ ? Whether you play on the school team or at a weekend pick-up game, the point is to have fun. By keeping that as the first place, you can learn to deal with the stress that is a natural part of competition. A. There will always be some stress in sports B. A little stress helps the body face a challenge C. Why not be quick to forgive mistakes and move on D. If you have too much going on, think about doing more exercising E. It is best to eat well and get enough sleep, especially before games F. Aren’t sports about staying active, developing as a player and making friends G. But it’s not always easy to keep it together when it feels like winning is everything 【答案】16. G 17. B 18. A 19. E 20. 【16题详解】 根据下文“Having a healthy attitude about sports and learning to deal with the stress that comes with competing can help you perform your best. (对运动保持健康的态度,学会应对比赛带来的压力,可以帮助你发挥出最佳状态。)” 可知,上一句谈及对待运动的态度。再结合上文对体育运动好处的阐述可知,此处涉及对运动的一个消极态度。因此G项“但是当感觉胜利就是一切的时候,保持团结并不容易”符合语境,故选G。 【17题详解】 上文“Competing always leads to some stress. And that can be good (竞争总是会带来一些压力。这是件好事)”说明此处涉及竞争带来压力是件好事的具体体现。与上文构成因果关系,因此B项“一点压力有助于身体面对挑战”符合语境,故选B。 【18题详解】 下文“So it’s important to know how to deal with it. Trying different ways during practice helps you know what will work best for you during competition. (所以知道如何应对很重要。在练习中尝试不同的方法可以帮助你知道在比赛中什么对你最有效。)”说明此处谈及在竞赛中总会有一些压力。后一句的it指代some stress。 【19题详解】 上文“Keep stress levels down when you aren’t competing. (当你不参加比赛时,保持低压力。)”说明此处涉及不参加比赛时降低运动压力水平的一个方法。因此E项“最好吃好,睡足,尤其是在比赛前”符合语境,故选E。 【20题详解】 上文“Finally don’t forget that no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes in sports. It is part of the game Two weeks ago, 93-year-old Joy Ryan set a world record. A boy grew up in a similar environment where winning was all that was valued, and he longed to succeed. The boy was good at running, so he called everyone in the nearby villages for a race. A large group of people from around came to see this exciting event! The boy had been training hard for this race. He ran among the strongest boys from around the villages, and it looked like heat on a finish line, but the young boy came out victorious! The crowd went wild with joy as they cheerfully waved (挥舞) flags praising him. The boy loved the attention. It made him feel happy and vital But among the crowd was a wise older man who did not seem as impressed with the boy’s fleets (舰队) as the rest. Just as the boy thought all the races for the day were over, the old man shouted from the crowd, “There is one more race left, the most important one.” The boy was firstly surprised by the additional race, but he was confident he could win any race. The old man brought two new competitors for the boy, a blind man and a weak old lady. “I can easily win them,” the boy said. When the boy crossed the finish line, the blind man was still at the start, and the old lady had just started to move. The boy got his victory but he noticed that the crowd wasn’t cheering. But he helped and guided the blind man, supported the old lady, and walked along with her this time. Finally, all three crossed the finish line together. The crowd cheered and clapped, which may have been louder than earlier. The boy was confused. So, he asked the old man, “Who is the winner of this race? Who is the crowd cheering for?” The wise old man put his hands around the boy’s shoulders. He answered, “Boy, you have won much more in this race than any other race you have ever run, and in this race, the crowd is not cheering for any winners but for your great teamwork.” The little boy felt proud and important. Lost in deep thought for a while, the boy thanked the wise old man for making him realize the real meaning of success. B HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — officials in Canada’s Atlantic Coast province of Nova Scotia said Saturday a wildfire that forced thousands of people to leave their homes over the past week is now largely controlled because of rain. C Habit is a behaviour you do regularly As a professor who studies how to help students become better readers and writers, I can tell you that research shows habits have a loop (循环). D Conversation around sustainability (可持续发展) has been growing in recent years, with a whole wave of new words entering the dictionary to describe its influence across many topics. Dealing with Stress in Sports Sports are a great way to have fun while staying fit.
