What would you tell a teenager from another country about school life in China?
Our school life is quiet and safe and gun crimes never happen.
School in cities can provide many colorful extr-curricular activities, but in rural areas, such activities are not always available.
Like senior high students in other countries we are facing fierce competition in the College Entrance Exam.
We have so many things to learn every day that sometimes we have to stay up.
Most of our classmates will stay in the same class for the whole senior high, so we are more likely have our lifelong friends,

Going from junior high school to senior high school
is a really big challenge. The first week was a little confusing.
First, I had to think very carefully about which courses I wanted to take. The school adviser helped me choose the suitable ones: maths, English, chemistry, world history, and Chinese. I know that Chinese is a very difficult language, but I hope to be fluent when I graduate. My adviser recommended that I should sign up for advanced literature because
I like English and I’m good at it.
Obviously, I was unhappy, but I won’t quit. I’ll find a way to improve on my own so that I can make the team next year. I joined a volunteer club instead. Every Wednesday, we work at a soup kitchen and hand out food to homeless people in the community.
I know I’ll have to study harder as a senior high school student and get used to being responsible for a lot more. I’m a bit worried about keeping up with the other students in my advanced course, and it’ll be quite difficult to get used to all the homework. Still, I’m happy to be here. Studying hard isn’t always fun, but I’ll be well prepared for university or whatever else comes in the future.
I had to choose extra-curricular activities, too. I tried
to join the school football team, but the coach told me
that I didn’t play well enough.

Do you face the same challenges as Adam? What other challenges are you facing? How do you deal with them?
Some of the challenges I face are very much like Adam’s,while some are quite different. Unlike Adam,I don’t have to choose my courses or my schedule. However,I am worried about my extra-curricular activities and trying to keep my hobbies. My solution to this challenge is to work harder at school so I can make more time for my extra-curricular activities and hobbies.
Post-reading:
What are some differences between Adam’s school life and your school life?
I don’t have to choose my own courses. All day,I am in the same classroom with my classmates, and we all study the same courses.
Work in pairs:
Make an oral report about your challenges, feelings and solutions as a freshman at senior high school.
Example:
I’m facing/worried/have trouble in…(challenge). I feel…(feeling). Faced with the challenge, I …(how to do).
Going from junior high school to senior high school is a really big challenge.

形式宾语,再接that引导的宾语从句;
2.what、which、whom
1.Her face suggested that she was ill. So I suggested that she (should) be sent to hospital at once.
2.Tom insisted Mike (should) apologize to his teacher, but Mike insisted that he was not wrong at all.
Para3:

so that = in order that 引导目的状语从句 ,“为了....”
so that 引导目的状语从句时,从句中常含有情态动词may、might、
can、could、should、would等。
eg: He used a microphone so that everyone could hear him.
eg: The room was packed with people, so that we couldn’t get in.
I know I’ll have to study harder as a senior high school student and
get used to being responsible for a lot more. I’m a bit worried about
... it’ll be quite difficult to get used to all the homework.
