I am at college now. Do you think it is a good idea to do part-time jobs?
Answer
Will Shetty
Answered Jun 6, 2023 • 35 views
I think it’s unnecessary for students to take part-time jobs while they are studying in colleges.
Part-time jobs take lots of time. Students should spend plenty of time and energy on their college courses in order to become successful.
Doing part-time jobs can be so tiring. Students who take part-time jobs certainly fill all of their time with work and college, so they haven’t enough spare time for hobbies.

I was surprised to read your recent post. You seem to make some advice on the question of college students’ part-time jobs. But I don’t agree with you.
The first point I would like to make is that it’s meaningful for college students to spend time doing part-time jobs. There are many jobs students can do. These jobs can give them useful experience of the working world. They are brought to meet different kinds of people, often older, and are given experience of expressing themselves clearly. I am thinking here of jobs such as tour guides and shopkeepers.
One further thing is that a lot of jobs for college students can be fun and also useful to the community. College students who help in schools, hospitals and with the elderly often get pleasure. Also they can do a lot to local society.
In conclusion, I would add that when I was a girl, my father said my teens were a time for books, and studies. Thinking back, if my father had allowed me to do some real work, I would have learned much more about myself, other people and life. Certainly, when my own daughter is old enough, I shall encourage her to do so, instead of wasting her time with soap operas and computer games, like so many young people today. I don’t mean having fun is a waste of time. I just want to point out that fun and part-time jobs could be balanced.
23. What is Will’s opinion?
A. Doing part-time jobs can be tiring but meaningful.
B. College students shouldn’t spend time on their hobbies.
C. College students can take part-time jobs if they have time.
D. There is no need for college students to take part-time jobs.
24. How does Margaret organize her ideas in the post?
A. B.
C D.
25. What can you learn from Margaret’s post?
A. It’s boring for college students to work with the elderly.
B. Margaret’s father allowed her to do some part-time jobs.
C. Most college students want to be tour guides and shopkeepers.
D. Part-time jobs help college students to know the working world.
26. What is Margaret’s purpose to write this post?
A. To make a plan for her daughter’s future job.
B. To ask college students to do a lot to local society.
C. To express her ideas about students’ part-time jobs.
D. To introduce popular part-time jobs to college students.

Long ago, there lived a King who had eleven sons, and one daughter named Eliza. The eleven brothers wrote with gold pencils. One could see directly that they were princes. Their sister Eliza sat on a little chair made of glass, and had a picture-book which cost half value of the country. The children were particularly well off, but life was not always like this.
Their father married a new Queen who did not love the poor children at all. They could notice this on the very first day. In the whole palace there was a great party, the children were only given some sand in a tea-cup instead of the spare cakes and the roasted apples, and were told that was something good.
The next week the Queen took Eliza into a village, to a farmer and his wife. And she also told the King many bad words about the Princes. After that King did not care about them any longer.
“Fly out into the world and get your own living,” the Queen said to the Princes. “Fly like great birds without a voice.”
But she could not make it so bad for them as she wished. The Princes became eleven beautiful wild swans. With a strange cry they flew out of the palace windows, far over the park and into the sky.
It was quite early morning when they came by the place where their sister Eliza lay asleep. They hovered (盘旋) over the farmer’s house, turned their long necks and flapped (扇动) their wings, but no one heard or saw it. They had to fly on, high up toward the clouds, far away into the wide world. They flew into a great dark forest finally.
Poor little Eliza stood in the farmer’s room and played with a green leaf, for she had no other things to play with. She made a hole in the leaf and looked through it up at the sun. It seemed to her that she saw her brothers’ clear eyes. Each time the warm sun shone upon her face, she thought of all the kisses they gave her.
When she was fifteen years old, she went home. When the Queen saw how beautiful she was, she became angry and hated her. She wanted to change her into a wild swan, because the King wished to see his daughter.

Family dinners are perfect situations for practicing table manners, such as learning how to use utensils (餐具), eating properly, your child has a chance to experience and eat new foods in a safe environment. This will encourage him to be open and excited about new dishes and situations. If he doesn’t like the food, teach him how to refuse it without complaining about it. Advise him to eat his favourite food in small and slow bites with practice.
When my child used to point out someone’s bad manners, I would ask him what that person should have done differently. I am at college now. Do you think it is a good idea to do part-time jobs?

Teaching good manners can seem like a lot of work, but it is as important as brushing teeth twice a day. Actually, just give time and any child can learn to be polite. Here are some tips on how to help kids remember good manners in their daily life.
Sometimes children may be willing to listen to someone instead of their parents. Turn to friends, family, and teachers and encourage them to practice good manners at all times. If an uncle burps (打嗝) at the dinner table, have him say “Excuse me.” or “Pardon me.” “If your children jump on the sofa at Grandma’s house, have her explain that jumping on furniture is impolite. This shows that a different person can be more effective (有效的) than the same one who is heard all the time. If no one plays down (对……轻描淡写) bad manners, your kids won’t either.
Prepare for different situations in which your kids need to behave politely. If you’re in your backyard where a child has been on the swings (秋千) too long, he doesn’t notice others waiting. Show how you would politely ask the child to give everyone else a turn. With practice, your child will have the confidence to deal with any situation with politeness and good manners.
Talk about different situations, ask what words he can use to sound polite when talking to an adult. Ask your child to share his ideas with you. Encourage him to practice them as soon as possible and ask him to report what happens and if the result is good.
