Searching on social media platforms has won arising popularity among young people around the world. To know young people’s search habits in China, TEENS surveyed readers aged 12 to 16 on which social media platform they prefer to use for searching.
Li Zhouzi, a 14-year-old girl from Shanxi, likes to search on Bilibili. She said that by doing this, she gets information more quickly and easily. She can see notes with photos and texts posted by people who also like it. She trusts them more than some reviews from unknown people.
Zhou Yaokai, a 16-year-old boy from Shanghai is one of them. Like many young people, he searches for lighter topics on social media platforms. When forming his personal opinions on heavier topics, he prefers to turn to official websites, such as China Daily. In this way, he can get the most dependable information.

A growing number of people are using ChatGPT, an AI program, to create books for sale.
Brett Schickler, a salesman in Rochester, New York, never imagined he could be a published (出版) writer. But after learning about ChatGPT, Schickler decided that he had a good chance.
“The idea of writing a book finally seemed possible,” said Schickler, “I thought I can do this.” Using the Alsoftware, Schickler created a 30-page illustrated (有插图的) children’s e-book in a few hours. He offered it for sale in January through Amazon’s self-publishing part. The e-book, which is named The Wise Little Squirrel, has made Schickler less than $100, he said. While that may not sound like much, it is enough to make him want to create other books using the software.
This service has also drawn new AI-assisted writers like Kamil Banc to Amazon. He told his wife that he could make a book in less than one day. Using ChatGPT, an AI image creator and instructions like “write a bedtime story about a pink dolphin that teaches children how to be honest,” Banc published an illustrated 27-page book in December. Later, Banc has published two more AI-generated books, including an adult coloring book, with more in the works. “It actually is really simple,” he said. “I was surprised at how fast it went from ideas to publishing.”
Here were over 200 e-books in Amazon’s Kindle store by mid-February that say ChatGPT is a writer or co-writer. And the number is rising daily. But some professional writers are becoming worried about the influence that ChatGPT could have on the book publishing industry.
Mary Rasenberger is the executive director of the Authors Guild, a writer’s group. She said, “This is something we really need to be worried about, these books will flood the market and a lot of writers are going to be out of work.”
44. According to Paragraph 1, people can use ChatGPT to ________.
A. chat with friends B. sell e-books online C. write their books D. tell children stories

C. Kamil Banc created a coloring book for adults quickly
D Kamil Banc made much money by writing e-books
46. From the last paragraph, we can infer that Mary Rasenbers is full of ________ about ChatGPT.
A. love B. fear C. surprise D. worry

Don’t throw away your old phones. You are actually throwing away real gold! Smartphones contain many useful things such as gold, silver and copper (铜). People can recycle them to make new electronics (电子器件).
But many people may not know this. In Australia alone there are more than 25 million unused mobile phones lying around, Sydney Morning Herald reported. The gold in these phone s can add up to a value of more than $80 million (542 million yuan). There are about 2 billion smartphone users around the world, who change their phone once every 11 months on average. In China, people generate (产生) 80 million old phones every year, according to New Express Daily.
However, it’s not easy to get the useful things out of the phones. Smartphones have not only useful things, but also harmful materials. Guiyu, a small town in Shantou, Guangdong, is one of the world’s biggest dumping grounds (垃圾倾倒场) for electronic waste, Reuters reported. Many recycling centers in Guiyu simply break the old electronics by hand and don’t think about the pollution it causes. According to a local government report, 81 percent of children in Guiyu are harmed by lead (铅) poisoning.
Veena Sahajwalla, a professor at Australia’s University of New South Wales, has made a mini factory. It makes smartphone recycling cleaner and easier. The mini factory is very small and easy to move around. It breaks the phones and automatically (自动地) removes the useful parts. That way, humans do not get poisoned.
47. What can people do with old phones?
A. Put them away. B. Make gold rings.
C. Make new electronics. D. Clean the city’s roads.
48. On average, how often do smartphone users change their phones?
A. Once a month. B. Twice a month.
C. Once every 11 months. D. Twice every 18 months.

B. ask people to protect the environment
C. encourage people to make good use of the old phones
D. introduce smartphones in different countries

Looking out of the window of his truck, Bob Fitzgerald sees dying forests and empty farmland. Fitzgerald says the land has been in his family since the 17th century. “I can show you land around here that people grew tomatoes on when I was a little boy. And now it’s gone.”
Climate change is making things worse. As sea levels rise, salt water is entering rivers and other waterways. As a result, the land is becoming too salty for crops to grow on. Hundreds of millions of people will be forced to move inland because of rising waters.
Kate Tully, a researcher in the University of Maryland, wants to keep coastal(沿海的) farmers in business as the seas rise. She has seen the forests filled with pine trees killed by the increasingly salty soil. The United States Department of Agriculture gave Tully and other researchers $1.1 million to study the problem. She and her team hope to give farmers ways to stay on their land.
They are testing different crops on pieces of land around the Eastern Shore. “Sorghum is my new favorite crop because it can grow without rain and it can also grow with lots of rain.” The grain(谷类) crop may be a good choice to feed the nearly 600 million chickens kept in the area each year. As farmers know, chickens can deal with salt, dry weather conditions and heavy rains. Yet just being able to grow a crop is not enough. The crop has to bring in money.
Some people believe the land should be given back to nature. They say the fields should be turned into wetlands, which are popular with duck hunters(猎人). “There’s money in duck hunting,” Tully said. “Hunting organizations will pay farmers for hunting on their land. Farmers could make a lot of money from duck hunting.”
Tully and her team are just getting started. It will be a few years before they really understand how to save the farms.
