It was set up in 2010. They made smartphones and many other cool gadgets (电子装置) at the beginning. With the development of the times, Xiaomi decided to do something big and different. They created their very first electric car, called the SU7, and started selling it to people. The boss of Xiaomi, a man named Lei Jun, told everyone that the starting price of this new car would be 215,900 yuan (almost $30,000). It was a big event, and people were very excited. In just 27 minutes, more than 50,000 people ordered the new car. Now, Xiaomi isn’t the only company making electric cars. There are other big names like Tesla and BYD. Tesla is a car made in America, and it’s known for being fast and modern. The price to start for a Tesla 3 is a bit higher, 245,900 yuan. But Xiaomi’s car, the SU7, can go really, really far, at least 700 kilometers on one charge (充电)! That’s more than the Tesla Model 3, which can only go 567 kilometers. At the same time, Xiaomi is thinking about how their customers use their phones and computers. They made the SU7’s brain (operating system) work like the ones in Xiaomi’s phones and laptops (手提电脑). This way, people can get everything connected and easy to use. Xiaomi has big dreams for their electric car business, but no one knows yet whether they will succeed. Some analysts (分析师) think that Xiaomi’s big idea will help make electric cars better and more exciting for everyone. So, what do you think? The season brings along with its strong winds and snow — an environment that’s never comfortable to be in. This unpleasant and even frightening part of winter can be often seen in literature. In Shakespeare’s King Lear (1606), the king has given away his kingdom and been driven out by his two ungrateful daughters. He is out in the winter cold, suffering (遭受痛苦) things that are usually saved for the poorest and most unlucky human beings. The winter is bad enough for Lear, but being driven out by his family is worse. A song from another Shakespeare’s play, As You Like It (1599), is fitting for this poor old man’s situation: “Blow, blow, thou winter wind/Thou art not so unkind/As man’s ingratitude (忘恩负义)”. Here, winter is used to bring out the ugliness of inhumanity (无人性). There aren’t many things that are worse than winter, according to Shakespeare. Once winter became less of a danger to human beings, it became more positive in literary works. Since Charles Dickens, the representation of the season in literature often has something to do with happy Christmas celebrations. The cold of the winter weather provides a contrast (对比) to the fun going on indoors. Dickens’ A Christmas Carol (1843) was the start of this, but Christmas is still a common, cheery element (元素) in stories that feature winter scenes today. Consider the joy felt by Harry Potter and his friends in J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (1997) as they sit down for their festive meal: “Harry had never in all his life had such a Christmas dinner. A hundred fat, roast turkeys; mountains of roast and boiled potatoes; platters of chipolatas; tureens of buttered peas, silver boats of thick, rich gravy and cranberry sauce.” It is almost as much a pleasure to read about the meal as it might have been to eat it. Although winter still isn’t the most cheerful season in novels and poems, it’s safe to say that writers have surely “warmed up” since Shakespeare’s days. 33. What can we learn from Shakespeare’s works? A. Winter is compared with the ugly side of humanity. B. Shakespeare didn’t like winter for its bad weather. C. It’s in winter when King Lear drove his two daughters off. D. King Lear was forced to give away his kingdom in a cold winter. 34. The author mentions Charles Dickens in the passage because _________. A. a lot of his works are related to winter B. he started a new way of representing winter C. he is the most popular author of winter stories D. his works make people feel cheerful in winter 35. The example of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is used mainly to show _________. A. Christmas is still a symbol of joy in modern stories B. traditional Christmas food makes the winter cheery C. it’s a pleasure to read Christmas-related books in winter D. winter has become the happiest season in literary works 36. The author’s main purpose in writing this article is to _________. A. recommend some winter stories in literature B. explain what winter is like in literary works C. describe certain customs that are related to winter D. tell us why winter is described as unpleasant in literature 【答案】33. Consider the joy felt by Harry Potter...”可知,作者用《哈利波特与魔法石》的例子主要是用来说明,圣诞节仍是现代故事中欢乐的象征。故选A。 B。 D Personally, there is nothing I love more than asking “stupid” questions, especially the ones that have no right answers. I remember once asking some kids what time it was, at home, in Singapore, and finally on the Moon. After a long silence, finally a shy girl ventured (试探地说) to say that it was “every time” followed by an energetic Einstein who shouted it was “no time”. Both kids shared that week’s Noble Prize because no humans live in that faraway world and time is created by humans. As a matter of fact, we are all good at asking questions by nature, but sadly as we age, we get used to the world around us and take things for granted. We became more results-oriented (注重结果的) and concentrate our efforts on success. If something is working, don’t fix it or worry about the cause; just relax and go with the flow. Common belief may work well, but that does not mean it is always right. Throughout history, it has been those who have questioned common belief and those who have challenged our common-sense ideas of the world that have been the ones to have brought about major progress in human civilization. In 500 BC, the ancient Greeks wondered whether the Earth was round because sailors on the sea had noticed that the farther south they went, the more different stars they saw in the sky. Why was the sky changing? Nearly 2,000 years later, the Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei became interested in this question and ended up demonstrating the “crazy” concept of heliocentrism (日心说), in which the Sun lies at the center of the universe while the Earth circles around it at 30 kilometers per second. But if the Earth is spinning around so quickly, why aren’t we being thrown off of the surface of the planet? The answer to this question would not be clear for another century. People like routine, but past performance is no guarantee of future results. While those who challenge common belief tend to be subjected to abuse, the progress of humankind would have otherwise been impossible without these persistent people and their “stupid” questions. 37. What commonly happens to us when we grow older according to the author? A. We focus too much on process. B. We still refuse to relax and go with the flow. C. We start to challenge common-sense ideas of the world. D. We gradually lose the ability to question common belief. 38. What’s the correct order of the following statements? a. The ancient Greeks wondered whether the Earth was round. b. Galileo Galilei raised the concept of heliocentrism. c. We know about the concept of gravity. d. Sailors noticed something special. A. adcb B. adbc C. dabc D. dacb 39. Who might have solved the question “why aren’t we being thrown off of the surface of the planet?” A. An ancient Greek scientist living in 500 BC. B. Galileo Galilei living between 1564 and 1642. C. Isaac Newton living between 1643 and 1727. D. Albert Einstein living between 1879 and 1955. 40. How does the author develop his writing on the whole? You may read the passage in the section of a newspaper. A. science B. travel C. culture D. history C The end of the year is drawing near, and winter is in full activity. A. recommend some winter stories in literature B. explain what winter is like in literary works C. describe certain customs that are related to winter D. tell us why winter is described as unpleasant in literature D Personally, there is nothing I love more than asking “stupid” questions, especially the ones that have no right answers. A By comparison and contrast B. By using supporting examples. C. By using time and space order. D. By generalization and definition. The crew (乘组) will carry out more than 90 experiments (实验) in space so that they can study microgravity in space, medicine and many other science topics. This mission is special because it is China’s first space-based study of water ecosystems (生态系统). The astronauts brought a fish tank filled with water to the space station. Four zebra fish and algae (水藻) live in it. The algae can give the fish oxygen, keeping them alive. The tank can also feed the fish, control the temperature and lighting, and collect fish eggs by itself. Why zebra fish? Because they share 87 percent of their genes (基因) with humans. Next scientists plan to take mice to space. They’ll raise them there and then bring them back to Earth for further study. Studying animals in space can help scientists understand how the human body reacts to space conditions. The Shenzhou XVIII crew will return after six months in space.
