Music is an international language. Love is a worldwide language. Now, it’s the turn of sand to be mentioned in such terms. Sand artist Kseniya Simonova mixes art, music and love to create her own medium which can be understood and appreciated by everyone. Simonova fell in love with sand art “absolutely accidentally”. Her husband, a theatre director, advised her to give it a try. Over time, she has unstoppably taken the web by storm. “I never thought it would turn out to be what it is now,” says Simonova. In Follow your Dreams, Simonova told a heartfelt story honoring the love between a mother and her son — using only the sand in her hands. In only a couple of minutes, a phone turns into a house, then into two faces, then into a boy looking out of the window. . . The art Simonova creates is magical; however, the medium she uses is quite common. “It is ordinary river sand. There was a time when I did use the volcanic one, but actually it makes no difference. What truly matters in a performance is the storyline that is effectively communicated in the theatre through the medium of sand,” explains Simonova. The images created by the artist live only for a few seconds. However, Simonova is not in any way alarmed by the momentary character of sand art. “I know that my creations exist only for a while, but I believe that to be absolutely normal because art mirrors life. We live every moment of our life, but it’s not possible to repeat those. The same is the case with what I do,” Simonova adds. Sand art helps the artist to see the world in a new way, painting ever-changing life in every grain of sand. 4. How does Simonova feel about her success in sand art? A. Confident. B. Stressed. C. Confused. D. Surprised. 5. What is the most important in sand art performance according to Simonova? A. The medium. B. The type of sand. C. The theatre. D. The content of the story. 6. What does Simonova say about the momentary nature of sand art? A. It is a kind of regret. B. It encourages repetition. C. It reflects our life. D. It alarms many sand artists. 7. What can be the best title for the text? A. Sand Artists: Offering a Whole New World B. Simonova: Painting the World with Sand C. Sand Art: a New Form of Performance D. Sand: the Most Powerful Tool 【答案】4. D 5. D 6. C 7. 根据文章第二段“Simonova fell in love with sand art “absolutely accidentally”. Her husband, a theatre director, advised her to give it a try. Over time, she has unstoppably taken the web by storm. “I never thought it would turn out to be what it is now,” says Simonova.( Simonova喜欢上沙画纯属偶然。她的丈夫,一个戏剧导演建议她尝试一下。随着时间的推移,她已经势不可挡地席卷了网络。Simonova说道:“我从来没想过它会变成现在这个样子。”)”可知,Simonova对自己在沙画上的成就感到很惊讶。故选D项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“What truly matters in a performance is the storyline that is effectively communicated in the theatre through the medium of sand,” explains Simonova.( Simonova解释道,在表演中真正重要的是故事线,通过沙子这一媒介,将故事有效地传达出来。)” 根据文章第四段““I know that my creations exist only for a while, but I believe that to be absolutely normal because art mirrors life. We live every moment of our life, but it’s not possible to repeat those. The same is the case with what I do,” Simonova adds.(“我知道我的作品只存在一段时间,但我相信这是绝对正常的,因为艺术反映了生活。我们过着生命中的每一刻,但不可能重复这些。我的工作也是如此,”Simonova补充道。)”可知,关于沙画短暂性,Simonova认为艺术反映了生活,生活中的每一刻都不可能重复。故选C项。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“Art is a global language. Music is an international language. Love is a worldwide language. Now, it’s the turn of sand to be mentioned in such terms. Sand artist Kseniya Simonova mixes art, music and love to create her own medium which can be understood and appreciated by everyone.(艺术是一种通用语言。 B项“Simonova: Painting the World with Sand(Simonova:用沙子画出世界)”概括文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。故选B项。 C Ford, the motor company, has announced it has rented a pair of Boston Dynamics’ robotic dogs. Ford is using the robotic dogs to help it 3D-map its Van Dyke Plant. “By having the robots in our factory, we can see what it actually looks like now and build a new engineering model. That digital model is then used when we need to change the equipment in the factory for new products,” said Mark Goderis, Ford’s digital engineering manager. The robotic dogs are used to record 360-degree images of areas in the factory that are difficult to get to by using a traditional 3D camera. They’re equipped with five cameras and can climb steps and kneel (跪) down to get into hard-to-reach places. Their four legs allow the robots to walk like a dog, around the factory at speeds of up to 3 miles per hour — so they’re not very quick. Besides, the battery lasts for only two hours. Mark said that the old way of scanning (扫描) with a camera could take two weeks, yet using the robotic dogs cuts that time in half. It also used to cost $300,000 to do it the old way. The robotic dogs are cheaper, but Ford didn’t say by how much. At present, the robotic dogs are followed by their handler, Paula Wiebelhaus, who manages the robotic dogs through a controller with a screen that sees what the dogs see. But in the near future, Ford wants to program the robotic dogs to go to different parts of the factory and report back what they see without being followed by a human. They can also ask for a ride on the back of a mobile robot that Ford has named Scouter. Like the robotic dogs, it’s also taking 3D scans of its environment. 8. What can we learn about Ford? A. It needs help in building an engineering model. B. It aims to design more animal related products. C. It is the main producer of robotic dogs. D. It will use robots instead of engineers. 9. What are the robotic dogs expected to do in the factory? A. Serve as a short-term battery charger. B. Explore and record inaccessible areas. C. Carry heavy objects around the factory. D. Improve the quality of digital images. 10. What is stressed in Paragraph 3? A. The advantages of robotic dogs. B. Ford’s new way of saving money. C. Mark’s interest in high technology. D. The cost of traditional scanning. 11. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. Robotic dogs are sometimes out of control. B. Scouter will take the place of robotic dogs. C. Ford will build more robotic dogs later. D The robotic dogs will be improved soon. A 9. B 10. A 11. 根据文章第一段““By having the robots in our factory, we can see what it actually looks like now and build a new engineering model. That digital model is then used when we need to change the equipment in the factory for new products,” said Mark Goderis, Ford’s digital engineering manager.(福特的数字工程经理Mark Goderis说道:“通过在我们的工厂安装机器人,我们可以看到工厂现在实际的样子,并建立一个新的工程模型。当我们需要为新产品更换工厂设备时,就会使用这个数字模型。”)”可知,福特的工程经理表示,使用机器狗可以帮助他们建立新的工程模型,故他们公司在建立工程模型时需要帮助,故选A。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第二段“The robotic dogs are used to record 360-degree images of areas in the factory that are difficult to get to by using a traditional 3D camera. They’re equipped with five cameras and can climb steps and kneel (跪) down to get into hard-to-reach places.(机器狗用于记录工厂中使用传统3D相机难以达到的区域的360度图像。 根据文章第三段“Mark said that the old way of scanning (扫描) with a camera could take two weeks, yet using the robotic dogs cuts that time in half. It also used to cost $300,000 to do it the old way. The robotic dogs are cheaper, but Ford didn’t say by how much.( Mark说道,传统的用相机扫描的方式要花两周的时间,然而,使用机器狗所花的时间可以减半。 根据文章最后一段“But in the near future, Ford wants to program the robotic dogs to go to different parts of the factory and report back what they see without being followed by a human. They can also ask for a ride on the back of a mobile robot that Ford has named Scouter. Like the robotic dogs, it’s also taking 3D scans of its environment. D。 D We’ve seen it used numerous times, from the cover of publications to speeches by world leaders: “Data (数据) is the new oil.” But the analogy (类比) should stop there. Douglas Hofstadter, a philosopher, notes that this commonly-heard analogy belongs to those on which nonspecialists are likely to base their understandings of scientific ideas. Such analogies are probably easy to remember but in a certain context they can lead to complete dead ends. There is a fixed amount of oil on our planet to be extracted (提取). Unlike oil, increasing amounts of data are being produced at a rate that’s hard to fathom: in the next two years, 40 zettabytes of data will be created — an amount so large that there is no useful approach to showing or describing its size effectively. The value of oil comes from its limited amounts and the difficulty of extracting it. However, data is something quite different. For example, data is both created and used by autonomous cars interacting with connected equipment in a smart city. In San Francisco, there are 470,000 registered cars. If just 25% of those cars were autonomous, the amount of data produced yearly would be the same as about 300,000,000 Internet users. Imagine what will happen if this situation covers a whole country. Oil is also a single-use supply, while data can be reused and shared for new purposes. Recently, data from a test of drugs commonly used to treat heart problems was reused, leading to the discovery of a second use for the medicine: destroying a protein (蛋白质) related to nearly half of all cancers. In comparison, adding more oil doesn’t result in getting better quality oil. So the next time you hear someone say this analogy, ask them when the earth will have no more data to extract and see if you can get an answer. 12. What’s Hofstadter’s attitude to the famous analogy? A. Supportive. B. Objective. C. Negative. D. Unconcerned. 13. What does the underlined word “fathom” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Understand. B. Quicken. C. Discover. D. Reuse. 14. Why does the author take San Francisco as an example? A. To explain it has busy public transportation. B. To suggest it employs many autonomous cars. C. To prove it is in great demand of updated data. D. To show it alone creates large amounts of data. 15. What can we learn about the value of data according to Paragraph 5? A. It may prevent some cancers from happening. B. It promotes scientific creations and advances. C. It inspires healthy competition in the drug market. D. It makes medical treatment accessible to people. C 13. A 14. D 15. 根据文章第二段“Douglas Hofstadter, a philosopher, notes that this commonly-heard analogy belongs to those on which nonspecialists are likely to base their understandings of scientific ideas. Such analogies are probably easy to remember but in a certain context they can lead to complete dead ends. 根据文章第三段划线词fathom后的内容“in the next two years, 40 zettabytes of data will be created — an amount so large that there is no useful approach to showing or describing its size effectively. 【14题详解】 推理判断题,根据文章第四段“The value of oil comes from its limited amounts and the difficulty of extracting it. 根据文章第五段“Recently, data from a test of drugs commonly used to treat heart problems was reused, leading to the discovery of a second use for the medicine: destroying a protein (蛋白质) related to nearly half of all cancers. Leave the Screens at Home on Your Next Family Road Trip The other day, a friend sent me an email, asking if I’d consider writing about educational apps for children to watch while on road trips. The email said, “___16___ And often with long car rides comes the use of on-screen entertainment. These educational apps can develop their art, math, science, engineering and design skills.” While the intention is well-meaning, I disagree with his idea. There is so much to see on a road trip! ___17___ So what can a child do in the car? There are plenty of off-screen activities that a child can do to pass the time. Take physical books along. Choose some novels for an older reader, get cartoon books, or take interactive books such as I Spy, coloring books, puzzle books, etc. Play games. ___18___ Print out a map of the country and color in each state as you notice a license plate from there. Keep a record of the different colored cars you see. Play the old classic alphabet game. ___19___ Parents can find online lists of good questions to get older kids talking, such as, “If you could travel anywhere in the world, what are your top three destinations and why?” “If you could have a dinner party with three people, who would you invite?” Not only is this fun, but it keeps the driver refreshed. Long road trips shouldn’t just be about endurance (耐力); they should also be about learning how to pass the time without a screen. So, challenge yourselves to a screen-free road trip the next time you go somewhere as a family. ___20___ A. Have some conversation starters ready. B. The Great License Plate Search is a fun one. C. You may be surprised at what a success it is. D. Collect your kids’ questions before starting off. E. Many are turning to road trips for a late-summer escape. F. Help your kids to make a list of things they’ll see on the trip. G. If they stare at a screen, they’ll miss everything outside the window. E 17. G 18. B 19. A 20. 【16题详解】 根据空后“And often with long car rides comes the use of on-screen entertainment.(通常,长时间乘车往往会带来屏幕娱乐的使用。)” 【17题详解】 根据空后“So what can a child do in the car?(那么孩子能在车里做什么呢?)”可知,空后提出问题,且根据连词So可知,此空与空后构成因果关系,前文“There is so much to see on a road trip!(在公路旅行中有很多要看的东西!)” 【18题详解】 根据空后“Print out a map of the country and color in each state as you notice a license plate from there. Keep a record of the different colored cars you see. 【19题详解】 根据空后“Parents can find online lists of good questions to get older kids talking, such as, “If you could travel anywhere in the world, what are your top three destinations and why?”(父母可以在网上找一些好的问题让大一点的孩子畅所欲言,比如说“如果你可以在世界上任何地方旅行,你的前三个目的地会是哪里?为什么?”)”可知,空后提出父母可以在网上找一些好的问题让大一点的孩子畅所欲言,故本段主要提出在出发前将问题准备好,故A项“准备好一些开场白。”符合本段首句,为本段的主旨句,表示在车上打发时间的具体方式之一,故选A项。 【20题详解】 根据空前“So, challenge yourselves to a screen-free road trip the next time you go somewhere as a family.(因此,下次当你和家人一起去某个地方时,挑战自己一下,进行一次无屏幕的公路旅行。)” Math was my worst subject. As I ___23___ the blackboard, I looked at the golden-haired girl next to me, trying to ___24___ what she was writing. Although I tried my best, she went faster than I could understand. Why couldn’t I understand this even when I tried to ___25___ it? Why? Why? I ___26___ back salty tears and wrote some numbers randomly (随便地) on the board. The teacher read over our answers silently. “Now, class, Susie did this problem absolutely correctly.” “As for Tara,” the teacher said, ___27___ her eyes, “I don’t ___28___ know what she did.” The class burst into ___29___, and I felt my face turned red, hoping to ____30____ them from seeing me at all. However, after class, my teacher wrote me a note, ____31____, “No one will truly make a difference to you, unless you ____32____ yourself to succeed.” This ____33____ from middle school is the most impressive to me. The experience made me feel stronger, and gave me ____34____. When I get a bad grade in school, I think of that moment, which gives me the willingness to ____35____ all of those whys that I asked myself, and continue until perfection, or as close as I can get. 21. A. excited B. calm C. upset D. proud 22. A. numbers B. books C. papers D. exercises 23. A. cleaned B. approached C. touched D. repaired 24. A. explain B. forget C. copy D. correct 25. It was me. It was not just because I was the one behind the camera, but because I avoided being photographed. I always felt I looked awful in photos. There were a few photos of me on my birthday that always made me feel bad. Generally speaking, I didn’t hate my appearance; I just wasn’t very photogenic (上相的). Therefore, when it came to family photos, I was missing. Gradually, I didn’t feel and look confident, and seldom smiled. Then I met Mary. I was attending a writers’ meeting in North Carolina and she was a photographer who was good at photo shooting for writers. As a new writer, I needed a good personal photo for business cards and social media. I decided to give Mary a try. The day of my appointment (约定) arrived. I picked out clothes that were most suitable for me. I checked myself in the mirror and felt I looked okay, but I was not sure whether the photos would reflect that. By the time Mary was to take photos of me, it began to have a light rain. My hair had started out nicely, but I knew the rain would destroy it. I unwillingly walked into the room. Mary greeted me with a sunny smile. I felt relaxed. I was sure that she could sense I was not confident about my appearance because she immediately began to comfort me. She promised my photos would be wonderful. And she said how sad it made her that so many women thought so little of their appearance and how much this would hurt their self-respect. The light rain stopped. Mary led me outside onto the grass-covered grounds of the meeting center. With the bright new green of spring and flowers seen everywhere, it was the perfect place for photos, even on a cloudy day. Mary first let me stand by a beautiful flower. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next day, I sat by Mary’s computer and looked through the photos. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Mary first let me stand by a beautiful flower. She let me post there and then on a bench fixed under some trees. Looking through the eye of her camera, she told me something amazing. She said that I was beautiful. I was both surprised and skeptical. And I smelled as we walked over to a rock column. Letting me stand before the column, she told me how to pose my body and adjust my head. She was cheerful and encouraging, and I began feeling a tiny seed growing inside me. The next day, I sat by Mary’s computer and looked through the photos. When the first one was on the screen, I was surprised. Was that me? It looked great as Mary presented one after another. I found I enjoyed them all. The more excited I got, the bigger Mary’s smile grew. She was pleased because I liked not only the pictures but myself in the pictures. After that day, I never feared being photographed. Thanks to Mary, I became confident, and people thought I looked bright. Nowadays, I have a whole new outlook on myself, my relationships, and my future. 词汇激活 行为类 ①喜欢:like /enjoy/love ②走过去:walk over /go over ③害怕:fear/scare 情绪类 ①令人鼓舞的:encouraging /inspiring ②感到惊讶的:surprised/amazed 【点睛】[高分句型1] She said that I was beautiful.(运用了that引导的宾语从句作said的宾语) [高分句型2] She was pleased because I liked not only the pictures but myself in the pictures.(运用了because引导的原因状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2023~2024学年度第二学期期中教学质量检测 高一英语试题 2024.04 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? Sand: the Most Powerful Tool C Ford, the motor company, has announced it has rented a pair of Boston Dynamics’ robotic dogs. D. The robotic dogs will be improved soon. D We’ve seen it used numerous times, from the cover of publications to speeches by world leaders: “Data (数据) is the new oil.” But the analogy (类比) should stop there. Unlike oil increasing amounts of data are being produced at a rate that’s hard to fathom: in the next two years, 40 zettabytes of data will be created — an amount so large that there is no useful approach to showing or describing its size effectively. Math was my worst subject. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
