素养提升专题
Ⅰ.完形填空
新素养·文化意识 (2023·滨州中考)When I first arrived in China, I knew
little Chinese. And some of the Chinese words I 1 had something to do with food. I
learned the names of a few dishes, but still didn’t know most of the things I saw on
Chinese restaurant menus. Luckily, there were 2 to help me.
Nearly every restaurant menu in China has pictures of food 3 it. But many
restaurants I’ve been to in the US don’t. What is the 4 for the difference?

One thing I’ve definitely (明确地) 5 about China is that food is a bigger
part of their culture than it is in the US. A common way to 6 someone in China is
to ask them if they’ve eaten yet. Food is just a bigger deal here—and having pictures of
food in menus is part of that. Some menus are almost like works of art, with beautiful
photos.
Another thing is the 7 of the dishes. Chinese dishes sometimes have fanciful
(别出心裁的)names like “palace guard chicken” or “three fresh things from the
soil”. These are interesting names, but they don’t really tell you 8 the dishes are
like. Therefore, it’s 9 to have pictures so you can actually see what you are going
to eat.
There are 10 even more reasons. All I know is that I was very thankful to
have those picture menus when I first came to China years ago.

Some passengers believe mobile phones should be turned off when flying because
they can bring the plane down. However, this isn’t true. If you don’t change your
phone to airplane mode, pilots may hear unpleasant sounds in their earphones. This
makes it harder for them to communicate.

On Feb. 10th, many people were busy making brooms(扫帚)stand up by
themselves. It’s said that Feb. 10th was the only day the “standing broom” trick
would work because of Earth’s gravitational pull(重力牵引). NASA scientists
explained that you can actually make a broom stand upright any day. It has something
to do with balance(平衡).

According to a new study, people
who can work from anywhere are
happier than those who work in an
office. An American company found
that 71 percent of workers who work
remotely said their jobs make them
happy. D
Why do many Chinese people refuse to cut
hair during the first month of the lunar
year? Tradition says that doing so will
cause your mother’s brothers to die. So
people usually cut their hair on
Dragon Head-Raising Day,
the second day of the second lunar month.

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,完成表格中所缺的信息。每空一词。
新素养· 文化意识 (2023·凉山模拟)Nowadays, many people in China and
Japan are racing against time. They put a lot of value in “being on time”. However,
in some countries of the world, people have different opinions on “being on time”.

III
Germany
Thanks to its industrial past (过去的工业化), in Germany you are expected
to arrive at least ten minutes earlier for any planned meeting.
In Germany, being on time is risky (有风险的) enough because your hosts
will probably already be there waiting, wondering how on earth(究竟) you could
be so stupid. What will you do if anything unexpected happens, like heavy traffic or a
sudden rain? So, remember to arrive early in Germany.
I

III
Saudi Arabia
Some countries care little about time and Saudi Arabia is one of them. It’s because
of their long history of desert living where time is not the first thing to think about. It
could be that it’s too hot to do anything on time. So don’t expect them to be on time.
Moreover, looking at your watch during an event is even considered as bad manners.
So don’t get angry with them, either.
I

III
Ghana
Most meeting times can be changed, even if an exact time is given, Ghanaians
are very relaxed and easygoing(随和的). They think that if everyone is late, then
no one is late. After all, what can’t be done today can get done tomorrow. If you find
it difficult to deal with, prepare to be unhappy. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the
ride.

III
Russia
Patience is considered a very important quality(品质) in Russian culture but
being on time is not. When doing business in Russia, do be on time. Otherwise, it
will be considered disrespectful(无礼的). But Russians won’t hold themselves to the
same standard(标准). So, again, patience can be key.
