They dress up with special costumes (服装), they eat too much, and they stay up too late celebrating. Children go around the neighborhood wearing make-up, and dress in masks and colorful costumes. The most common costumes are witches (巫师), ghosts, skeletons (骷髅), and popular TV, movie and storybook characters. Some costumes are homemade; others are bought in stores. The children go from door to door saying “trick or treat”. People give them candy, cookies, fruit or money. Sometimes money is collected to help UNICEF, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund. Homes, stores, and classrooms are decorated in the traditional Halloween colors, orange and black. Usual decorations are witches, ghosts, skeletons, and Jack-o’-lanterns, Jack-o’-lanterns are pumpkins that are carved (雕刻) to look like faces. They are placed on doorway entrances and in windows. Horror movies and ghost stories are shown on TV on this day. Adults and older children also celebrate Halloween with parades, festivals, and costume parties. Some people create their costumes; other people rent them. Contests are held, where the best costume receives a prize. One of the party events popular with children is dunking (浸泡) for apples. She was such a gentle soul. She was let out of the house in extreme heat and attacked by another dog. I tried to save her but it was too late. My heart breaks every day missing her. Hopie used to follow me around the yard when I was mowing (割) the grass; even if it was hot. She’d take a break and go back in the shade for a while, but always felt like she had to stay near me and she’d come back and walk along behind me. After I lost her I couldn’t even bear to go out and mow the grass. One day I finally realized I had better get out there and do it because it was looking like a field. As l walked along slowly thinking of her and missing her, a black and white dragonfly (蜻蜓) started following me and then flying in front of me. It finally landed on the handle of the mower right near my hands and just sat there looking at me. I said out loud, “Hopie, is that you?” and the dragonfly just sat there and continued to look straight at me. I have not ever seen a dragonfly with those colors: black body, white eyes and black and white wings. I knew in my heart that it was my Hopie coming to tell me. She was still there watching over me and tears came to my eyes. 1 told her I loved her and she flew away up into the sky as free as she could be. I still miss her every day and every time I see a dragonfly, I think of her. 24. According to paragraph one, what happened to Hopie? A. She was saved by the author. B. She was killed by another dog. C. She saved another dog’s life. D. She was lost on a hot day. 25. What’s the author’s purpose in paragraph two? A. To make us know his dog got used to hot weather. B. To show us that he had a beautifully managed yard. C. To tell us the sweet memories shared with Hopie. D. To tell us how annoying it was to be followed by Hopie. 26. Why couldn’t the author bear to go out and mow the grass? A. It was very hot out there in the yard. B. He couldn’t help missing his dog, Hopie. C. His yard had no grass at all. D. There were so many annoying dragonflies. 27. Why did the author imagine the dragonfly as his dog, Hopie? A. The dragonfly behaved like his dog. B. He was lacking in the common sense. C. The dragonfly looked the same as Hopie. D. How happy he was to see Hopie again. C If you want to live longer, live around green space. That’s the simple conclusion of the largest study on the relationship between the environment and human longevity (长寿) — which was made among eight million people, in seven countries. This simple finding is: “When you are exposed to greenness around your home, your probability to die … is less compared to those with less greenness around their home,”says David Rojas, a researcher at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health. The research team found that for every 10% increase in greenness within 1600 feet of your home, your probability of death drops by 4%. Subjects were from countries around the globe: Australia, Canada, China, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, and the U. S. As Rojas explains, the finding was the same in every country. People who lived near more green space lived longer than people who lived near less. This green space can be grass, trees, or gardens. It can be public or private space. Satellites were used to accurately measure greenness around homes. The study didn’t have the data to show that some plants were better for our health than others. 28. What should we do to have a greater chance to live long? A. Try to live near more greenness. B. Choose to live near some plants. C. Have greenness in our own house. D. Live near a park with lots of greenness. 29. Why is the research and the finding of it reliable? A. The research was made widely among large numbers of people. B The research was done by a famous university. C. The research were made in a careful way. D. The research was based on lots of numbers 30 What will the increase of 20 % in greenness cause ? A. The people who live near it will have a drop of 12 % in death probability. B. The people who live near it will have a drop of 10% in death probability. C. The people who live near it will have a drop of 8% in death probability. D. The people who live near it will have a drop of 6% in death probability. 31. Which of the following best suits the passage as a title? A. A great finding B. Greener, better C. More parks, longer life D. Better environment, better life D Some people say global English is no longer just controlled by British or American English, but is running free and developing uniquely local forms. Can you figure out the following terms? “I like your smile, but unlike you put your shoes on my face.”This is a way of saying“Keep off the grass.”Or“people mountain, people sea”,which means“very crowded”. These examples are what we call Chinglish. When it comes to Chinglish,if all you know is“good good study, day day up”,you will be considered“out man”. Nowadays, more Chinglish words have been created, for example,a Chinese idiom is translated as“smilence”,a combination by the English word smile and silence. Chinglish usually offers a humorous look at misuses of the English language in Chinese street signs, products, and advertising. They are favoured by some English speaking tourists and visitors.Dominic Swire has been living in Beijing for a couple of years.“I think many Chinese people complain about the Chinglish and badly translated English. But you know, sometimes for us foreigners,it’s actually quite charming to see them.I think if the translations of English in China were all perfect, then something would be lost from Chinese culture.” However,Chinglish will probably become a“cultural relic”in the near future.Beijing has made a comprehensive plan to improve foreign language services and correct Chinglish within five years.“It is very ridiculous to see Chinglish on the signs in some scenic spots. And they are a kind of barrier for communication between Chinese and people from other countries,”a Beijinger said. Some Chinese university experts side with Chinglish. They argue that English has absorbed elements from other languages such as French and Spanish in its growth, and now it’s Chinese’s turn. 32. What can we call Chinglish? A. English words which get new Chinese meanings. B. The Chinese words which are difficult to translate. C. The words combining English vocabulary and Chinese grammar. D. The local words preventing foreigners from learning Chinese well. 33. What does“smilence”most probably mean? A. Saying nothing but to smile. B. Smiling without being noticed. C. Laughing at somebody. D. Knowing little about speech. 34. What is Swire’s attitude to Chinglish? A. It can show the humour of Chinese. B. It will attract more foreign tourists. C. It helps him to learn Chinese well. D. It seems part of Chinese culture. 35. Why Chinglish is likely to become a“cultural relic”in Beijing? A. Because it has become a unique bridge between Chinese and English. B. Because Chinglish is a chance to enrich Chinese and English. C. Because it improves the understanding between Chinese and foreigners. D. Because Beijing is determined to get rid of Chinglish signs. Food safety is a problem in all places around the world. I personally have hurried past a stranger who tried to catch my attention in a busy place. Yesterday I had a taste of being stuck in such a desperate situation where your only hope of help would have to come from a total stranger. I was in a busy shopping mall buying a large piece of luggage. After the purchase in one of the large and expensive shops I picked up my phone from my pocket to call my driver waiting in the parking lot and my phone was dead. I then requested the shop assistant selling me the luggage, which was not cheap at all, if she could ring the number of my driver for me. She replied, still all smiles, “I’m sorry Sir, but it is the shop policy that we cannot use mobile phones while working in the shop.” As I was wondering what kind of policy that was, I saw a nice-looking teenage boy coming toward me. Remember my wife’s interesting theory that beautiful people are more likely to give you a hand when you’re in trouble, I thought I might have a chance. But before I could say a word, he walked past me. It turned out he simply didn’t see me. I waited in the mall but it seemed nobody bothered to look at me. Disappointed and tired, I got out of the shop on to the busy street in front. I stood there with people rushing by, looking at their faces to see if they will show kindness to me. I began wondering how many times I had reacted to strangers like the shop girl and the teenager. That was when I saw a young mother with her two kids. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally a man wearing a cheap T-shirt and dirty jeans seemed to notice me. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 麻城三中2024年春高一年级期中考试 英语试卷 时长:120分钟 满分:150分 第一部分 听力 第一节 听下面5段对话。 What happened to the man? I don’t earn much but enough for my hobby. I am a very happy man. A Halloween is a festival celebrated on October 31st. The name of the holiday means “hallowed” or “holy evening” because it happens the day before All Saints Day. It is said that Halloween is the children’s New Year’s Eve. Apples are put in tubs filled with water. People try to get the apples using only their mouths; hands cannot be used. 21. Why is it said that Halloween is the children’s New Year’s Eve? A. B 25. C 26. B 27. 根据第一段中“She was let out of the house in extreme heat and attacked by another dog. I tried to save her but it was too late. My heart breaks every day missing her. (她在酷热中被放出家门,并遭到另一只狗的袭击。我试图救她,但为时已晚。想念她,我每天都心碎)”可知,作者努力救这只狗,但是太晚了,作者非常思念它,由此可知作者的狗已经被另一只狗咬死了。故选B项。 【25题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“Hopie used to follow me around the yard when I was mowing (割) the grass; even if it was hot. She’d take a break and go back in the shade for a while, but always felt like she had to stay near me and she’d come back and walk along behind me. (当我割草的时候,霍皮经常跟着我在院子里转;即使天气很热。她会休息一下,回到阴凉处呆一会儿,但总觉得她必须待在我身边,然后回来在我身后走)”可知,本段回忆霍皮在世时,他们之间快乐的时光以及狗对他的依恋。由此可以推知,作者写这段的目的是告诉我们他与狗有着美好的过去,这也为下文中“思念狗”埋下了伏笔。故选C项。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Hopie used to follow me around the yard when I was mowing (割) the grass; even if it was hot. (当我割草的时候,霍皮经常跟着我在院子里转;即使天气很热)”可知,院子里和草坪上承载着许多作者对霍皮的回忆,作者太想念狗,而不忍出去剪草坪。故选B项。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中“Hopie was a beautiful black and white dog. (霍皮是一只美丽的黑白相间的狗)”,第二段中“She’d take a break and go back in the shade for a while, but always felt like she had to stay near me and she’d come back and walk along behind me. (她会休息一下,回到阴凉处呆一会儿,但总觉得她必须待在我身边,然后回来在我身后走)”和第三段中“As l walked along slowly thinking of her and missing her, a black and white dragonfly (蜻蜓) started following me and then flying in front of me. It finally landed on the handle of the mower right near my hands and just sat there looking at me. (当我慢慢地走着,想着她,想念她时,一只黑白相间的蜻蜓开始跟着我,然后在我面前飞了起来。它终于落在了我手附近的割草机把手上,坐在那里看着我)”可知,作者的狗和蜻蜓都很依恋作者,在这一点上蜻蜓很像作者的狗,所以作者把蜻蜓想象成了他已去世的狗。故选A项。 C If you want to live longer, live around green space. The research team found that for every 10% increase in greenness within 1,600 feet of your home, your probability of death drops by 4%. B. The research was done by a famous university. C. The research were made in a careful way. D. The research was based on lots of numbers 30. What will the increase of 20 % in greenness cause ? Better environment, better life 【答案】28. A 29. A 30. C 31. 由文章第一段“If you want to live longer, live around green space. That’s the simple conclusion of the largest study on the relationship between the environment and human longevity(长寿)—which was made among eight million people, in seven countries. Subjects were from countries around the globe: Australia, Canada, China, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, and the U. S.(研究小组发现,在你家1600英尺范围内,绿色度每增加10%,你的死亡概率就会下降4%。受试者来自世界各地:澳大利亚、加拿大、中国、西班牙、意大利、瑞士和美国。)”可知,这项研究的样本数量大,覆盖了全球多个国家,因此研究结果具有可靠性。故选A项。 由文章第二段“The research team found that for every 10% increase in greenness within 1,600 feet of your home, your probability of death drops by 4%.(研究小组发现,在你家1600英尺范围内,绿色度每增加10%,你死亡概率就会下降4%。)” 由文章第一段“If you want to live longer, live around green space. (如果你想活得更长,就住在绿地周围。)”以及后文可知,文章主要介绍科学研究发现绿色环境有助于人们更长寿。所以B项Greener, better(越绿越好)符合文意。故选B项。 D Some people say global English is no longer just controlled by British or American English, but is running free and developing uniquely local forms. C 33. A 34. D 35. I always wondered how people would react if I tried to approach a stranger for help in a busy place like a street corner or in a bustling mall. I personally have hurried past a stranger who tried to catch my attention in a busy place. Yesterday I had a taste of being stuck in such a desperate situation where your only hope of help would have to come from a total stranger. I was in a busy shopping mall buying a large piece of luggage. After the purchase in one of the large and expensive shops, I picked up my phone from my pocket to call my driver waiting in the parking lot and my phone was dead. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: That was when I saw a young mother with her two kids. She was talking on the phone, and her voice told me she was a gentle and patient lady. The two kids were neatly dressed and waited quietly beside her. This must be a nice family, I thought to myself. Therefore, I approached to make a request. But as soon as I said, “Excuse me madam,” she grabbed both her kids and went away. Did I look like someone trying to hurt people? I felt my heart sinking horribly. Finally a man wearing a cheap T-shirt and dirty jeans seemed to notice me. I didn’t know why but I just stopped him and made my request. I was expecting him to rush past but he immediately called the number of my driver and waited till my car came to be sure I was picked up, turned around before I could thank him adequately and was gone. Surprised by his kindness, I promised I would do likewise to strangers who sought my help. 词汇激活 行为类 走近:approach/come near 走开:go away/walk away 提出请求:make a request /ask for a favor 情绪类 感谢:thank /express gratitude to 惊讶:surprised /astonished 【点睛】[高分句型1] But as soon as I said, “Excuse me madam,” she grabbed both her kids and went away. (运用了as soon as引导时间状语从句) [高分句型2] Surprised by his kindness, I promised I would do likewise to strangers who sought my help.
