B The “Got Talent” crew is one of the pioneers in finding and publicizing music talent and has been giving the world some of its most favorite artists for almost two decades. In 2023, “Britain’s Got Talent” (BGT) uncovered a musical genius named Malakai Bayoh who impressed the audience with perfect high-note singing. The London-based 13-year-old boy appeared for the show’s audition (海选) in April, 2023 and was accompanied by his mom and sister. “My big dream is to be an opera singer. I started singing at 7,” said Malakai to the BGT team. He then added jokingly, “My mom made me join the choir because she’s very bossy.” The teenager mentioned she was his biggest fan. Malakai’s mom was worried as he was about to perform and said, “It scares me because, on his first show, somebody heckled (对……起哄) him. It was sad to see someone boo a child on stage because it might destroy his confidence completely.” Contrary to his mom’s fear, Malakai set the stage on fire singing a beautiful song and the entire crowd was impressed by his amazing voice. As he ended his song, the audience and the judges gave him a big round of applause. The performance won him Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer, sending him straight to the semi-finals of the show. The other judges called Malakai’s performance “perfect” and “heavenly”. His angelic voice blew the audience away and the judges thanked the teen for coming to the show. Malakai went on to become one of the finalists of the show and signed a record deal with Universal Music. Malakai’ s audition at the BGT went viral on social media, “I’m a trained singer, and a music teacher by profession, and sang this song as a young performer myself. I can say with absolute certainty this is the best I’ve ever heard this song sung, with proper technique and proper breathing. This boy is a gifted singer,” @mayacorinne878 posted. 24. What made Malakai’s mom feel worried? A. The judge’s expression. B. Her son’s performance on stage. C. A bad experience. D. Her son’s difficulty in singing in public. 25. What does the phrase “set the stage on fire” in paragraph 3 imply about Malakai’s performance? A. He accidentally caused a literal fire during his performance. B. His performance was extremely passionate and energetic. C. His performance received the lowest rating possible. D. He refused to perform unless certain conditions were met. 26. What can be inferred about Malakai’s talent? A. He has average talent but is well-received due to his age. B. He has exceptional talent that is recognized by both professionals and the public. C. He has talent but his performance was not enough to send him to the semi-finals. D. He lacks talent, but his story touched the hearts of the audience. 27. What is the text mainly about? A. The rise of a young opera singer. B. The impact of social media on music talent. C. The history of “Got Talent” shows. D. The challenges faced by young performers. C At some point in the stretch of days between the start of the pandemic’s third year and the feared launch of World War III, a new phrase unfolded itself before us, a mysterious foretell of an age to come: people were going “goblin mode”. The term embraces the comforts of depravity(堕落): spending the day in bed scrolling endlessly through social media; pouring the end of a bag of chips in your mouth; leaving the house in your pajamas and socks only to get a single Diet Coke from the store. First appearing on Twitter as early as 2009, “goblin mode” represents a direct departure from the “cottagecore” influence of early pandemic days, a standout trend of 2020 that thrived under the wistful ethos of making the best of what many people assumed would be only a few boring weeks at home in 2020. But as the pandemic wears on endlessly, and the chaos of current events worsens, people feel cheated by the system and have rejected such goals. “The trend sets an unrealistic standard for people to think that if they aren’t waking up early to exercise, their lives are not put together”, one blog indicting “cottagecore” culture reads. Most people tweeting about goblin mode characterize it as an almost spiritual-level embrace of our most debased tendencies and call it a logical progression into nihilism(虚无主义)after years of disappointment. However, Marnell, an author who has been tweeting extensively in recent weeks about entering goblin mode, says there is “healthy goblin mode and destructive goblin mode”. For her, it represents a certain air of harmless mischief. “It is cool to be a goblin,” Marnell says. “Everyone is so perfect all the time online, it is good to get in touch with the strange little creature that lives inside you.” 28. Which of the following does not belong to “cottagecore” culture? A. Organizing refrigerators full of freshly cut vegetables. B. Wearing makeup and doing elaborate skincare routines. C. Making organic food and putting them in a delicate plate. D. Wearing nothing but a long T-shirt to make a weird snack. 29. According to the passage, what leads to people’s entering of goblin mode? A. The financial crisis. B. The endless pandemic. C. The comforts of depravity. D. The worsening system. 30. What does “indict” mean in Paragraph 4? A. Accuse. B. Praise. C. Credit. D. Destroy. 31. What attitude do most people hold towards goblin mode? A. Positive. B. Neutral. C. Negative. D. Favorable. D In the rich countries of the West, the electric vehicle revolution is well occurring. Climate-conscious consumers drive Teslas or Polestars for reasons of morality (道德) and fashion. Poorer countries are also experiencing a wave of electrified trend. In Bangladesh, electric three-wheeler taxis, known as tuk-tuks, are rapidly replacing gas-powered ones on the streets. Such electric vehicles are climate friendly, cost effective, and help reduce air pollution. Yet a glance under the hood (引擎盖) of these vehicles shows a poisonous secret: each tuk-tuk runs on five massive lead-acid batteries (铅酸电池), containing almost 300 pounds of lead (铅) in total. Every year and a half or so, when those batteries need to be replaced and recycled, about 60 pounds of lead leaks into the environment. Battery recycling, often at small-scale unregulated factories, is a highly profitable (高利润的) but deadly business. Lead is dangerous and any exposure to it is harmful to human health. Lead that has entered the environment hurts people on an unexpected scale. The numerous ways lead enters air, water, soil, and homes across the developing world and the enormous damage it does to human health, wealth, and welfare cause one of the biggest environmental problems in the world yet receives little attention. The World Bank estimates that lead kills 5.5 million people per year, making it a bigger global killer than AIDS, malaria, diabetes, and road traffic deaths combined. On top of the shocking deaths, the social burden of lead poisoning is heavy, as is its contribution to global inequality — our research on the cognitive (认知的) effects of lead poisoning suggests that it may explain about one-fifth of the educational achievement gap between rich and poor countries. But unlike many challenges faced by developing countries, lead poisoning is a problem that can be resolved through financial investment Better monitoring, research, and rules can help protect children all over the world from the unpleasant effects of lead poisoning and reduce the massive global costs it brings. 32. How does the author describe the lead problem in paragraph 2? A. By listing some numbers. B. By analyzing hidden causes. C. By making an interesting comparison. D. By explaining its working principle. 33. What can we learn about lead’s harm from the text? A. Lead enters poor countries in one way. B. Lead leaking has been avoided in all the countries. C. Lead will definitely not harm anymore. D. Lead poisoning may make poor societies poorer. 34. What can be done to solve lead poisoning in developing countries? A. Fixing these used batteries. B. Reducing the cost of recycling lead. C. Ignoring the illegal use of lead. D. Putting certain effort and money. 35. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. The Impacts of Lead Poisoning on Man. B. The Global Lead Poisoning Problem. C. The Ways to Solve Lead Problem. D. The Benefits of Using Electric Vehicles. How to ask good questions Effective communication is vital for all relationship. When someone gives you an answer or explains something to you, pay attention. ______37______ By focusing on listening, you’ll avoid asking a general question that you should probably know the answer to. When someone else is speaking, make eye contact and use body language such as nodding to show you understand. Don’t be afraid of your questions. ______38______ Maybe it’s your first time doing a task, and you want to do it properly. Wrong questions don’t exist —especially if you’ve never done this before. Fast responses can mess with the conversation’s flow. You don’t want to feel rushed or rush others, so learn to give yourself time to think. Keep your questions short. A long question shows a lack of self-awareness. ______40______ You may want to provide enough detail in your question but not too much. My parents lost their jobs during the Depression. Dad was too ill to work outside, while mum had a hard time raising us kids on her own in our small community. We relied on our community assistance to keep us clothed, and although our clothes were second-hand, we thought they were beautiful. Looking back, I realize what Mum went through for sending us kids to school. Every morning she would put a new piece of cardboard in our shoes, because our shoes were worn out. Constant moving was typical for my family in these times. Rent was twenty-five dollars a month, but Mum couldn’t pay it. These were hard and sad years, but we never complained. New Year was approaching, and we were entitled to a twenty-five dollar fund for social services. Mum said that instead of buying food, she would use the money to pay back rent, assuring us all of a roof over our heads for a little while longer. She told us then there would be nothing for New Year. Unknown to Mum, I had been shoveling snow and doing odd jobs to earn enough money to buy a new pair of gloves. I knew exactly which gloves I wanted. They were made of genuine leather and they had a price of twenty-three dollars. Well, the big day came on the last day of that year. I was very excited, as I hurried up to catch the bus. It was only a half-a-mile walk, but on the way I noticed a house with lights and decorations. It was then that I realized at our house, we had no lights, no decorations, nor any money for goodies. I knew then that we would have no delicious food for New Year, and I felt sad. As I continued walking, I began to feel bewildered. I was sixteen years old, and I was feeling a strange sense of guilt. Here I was going to buy a new pair of gloves while Mum was home in tears. She would be trying to explain to us why there were no presents. Paragraph 1: The bus drove off without me. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: When Mum opened the door, she surprisingly found that some of the groceries fell inside onto the floor. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null 2024年上学期涟源市高二5月月考 英语试题 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共 5 小题;每小题 1.5 分,满分 7.5 分) 听下面5段对话。 What kind of book is the man reading? But in recent years, the world’s deepest freshwater lake has been paid much attention to because of an extreme sport. Each march since 2005 about 150 people from around the world sign up for the Baikal Ice Marathon. They come to explore the lake’s extraordinary beauty and challenge themselves in unpredictable conditions. The 41.84 kilometre journey starts on the lake’s eastern shore in march. The Ice is a meter thick and very hard runners cross this frozen surface, finishing on the western side of the lake. Known as the blue eye of Siberia. The lake has clear water. Seen from above. A runner on the Ice looks as if he or she was jogging through space. The landscape might be beautiful, but it is a severe test. However, runners say the cold climate is what draws them. They want to challenge themselves. When runners start their Marathon, they don’t have cars around them and they don’t have noise around. They are alone on lake by call. All they need to do is defeat themselves. A Discover polar adventure and exploration on your doorstep. C. He has talent, but his performance was not enough to send him to the semi-finals. D. He lacks talent, but his story touched the hearts of the audience. 27. What is the text mainly about? A. The rise of a young opera singer. B. The impact of social media on music talent. C. The history of “Got Talent” shows. D. The challenges faced by young performers. C 25. B 26. B 27. 根据文章第三段内容“Malakai’s mom was worried as he was about to perform and said, “It scares me because, on his first show, somebody heckled him. It was sad to see someone boo a child on stage because it might destroy his confidence completely.”(Malakai的妈妈在他要表演的时候很担心,她说:“这让我很害怕,因为在他第一次表演的时候,有人起哄。看到有人在台上嘘一个孩子,我很难过,因为这可能会彻底摧毁他的信心。”)”可知,Malakai第一次在台上表演时遭遇了不好的对待,这样的经历让Malakai的妈妈对他将要进行的表演感到担心。故选C项。 【25题详解】 词义猜测题。根据后文“the entire crowd was impressed by his amazing voice. As he ended his song, the audience and the judges gave him a big round of applause.(……整个人群都被他惊人的声音所打动。当他结束他的歌曲时,观众和评委给了他热烈的掌声。)”可知,他的演唱将观众打动,观众和评委给他以热烈的掌声,由此推知,他的表演应该是充满激情和魅力的,因此可推知,使用“set the stage on fire”应是表明他的表演充满激情和魅力,就像在舞台上放了一把火,燃起了观众的共鸣。故选B项。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段内容“The other judges called Malakai’s performance ‘perfect’ and ‘heavenly’. His angelic voice blew the audience away and the judges thanked the teen for coming to the show.(其他评委称马拉凯的表现“完美”、“天籁”。他天使般的声音震撼了观众,评委们也感谢了这位少年的到来。)”以及第五段内容“I’m a trained singer, and a music teacher by profession, and sang this song as a young performer myself. I can say with absolute certainty this is the best I’ve ever heard this song sung, with proper technique and proper breathing. 通过阅读文章内容可知,文章第一段内容“In 2023, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ (BGT) uncovered a musical genius named Malakai Bayoh who impressed the audience with perfect high-note singing.(2023年,《英国达人秀》发掘了一位名叫Malakai Bayoh的音乐天才,他以完美的高音演唱给观众留下了深刻印象。)” 故选A项。 C At some point in the stretch of days between the start of the pandemic’s third year and the feared launch of World War III, a new phrase unfolded itself before us, a mysterious foretell of an age to come: people were going “goblin mode”. A. Positive. B. Neutral. C. Negative. D. Favorable. D 29. B 30. A 31. 从第二段“The term embraces the comforts of depravity(堕落): spending the day in bed scrolling endlessly through social media; pouring the end of a bag of chips in your mouth; leaving the house in your pajamas and socks only to get a single Diet Coke from the store.(这个词包含了堕落的舒适:整天躺在床上无休止地浏览社交媒体;将一袋薯片的末端倒入嘴里;穿着睡衣和袜子离开家,只是为了从商店买一杯健怡可乐。)”以及第三段“First appearing on Twitter as early as 2009, “goblin mode” represents a direct departure from the “cottagecore” influence of early pandemic days, a standout trend of 2020 that thrived under the wistful ethos of making the best of what many people assumed would be only a few boring weeks at home in 2020. (早在2009年,“哥布林模式”就首次出现在推特上,它代表着与流感大流行早期“乡村核心”影响的直接背离,流感大流行是2020年的一个显著趋势,在许多人认为只需在家呆几周就能做到最好的充满渴望的精神氛围下蓬勃发展。。)”可知,goblin mode是种堕落的舒适,而“cottagecore”culture是一种与goblin mode完全不同的健康的生活方式。故选D项。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段第一句“But as the pandemic wears on endlessly, and the chaos of current events worsens, people feel cheated by the system and have rejected such goals. (但随着疫情持续不断,当前事件的混乱加剧,人们感觉被体制欺骗了,并拒绝了这些目标。)和最后一段第一句“Most people tweeting about goblin mode characterize it as an almost spiritual-level embrace of our most debased tendencies and call it a logical progression into nihilism(虚无主义)after years of disappointment.”(大多数人在推特上描述哥布林模式是对我们最堕落的倾向的精神层面的接受,并称其为在多年的大流行导致失望之后进入虚无主义。)可知,持续的疫情导致人们进入哥布林模式,故选B项。 【30题详解】 词义猜测题。从划线单词所在句子““The trend sets an unrealistic standard for people to think that if they aren’t waking up early to exercise, their lives are not put together”, one blog indicting “cottagecore” culture reads.” (“这种趋势为人们设定了一种不切实际的标准,认为如果他们不早起锻炼,他们的生活就不正常了”,一篇……“田园美学”文化的博客写道。)中“if they aren’t waking up early to exercise, their lives are not put together”可知如果他们不早起锻炼,他们的生活就不正常了,该博客是在谴责这种趋势,推测划线单词大意为“谴责,控诉”。故选A项。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。从文章最后一段“Most people tweeting about goblin mode characterize it as an almost spiritual-level embrace of our most debased tendencies and call it a logical progression into nihilism after years of pandemic induced disappointment.”(大多数人在推特上都将躺平模式描述成几乎是对我们最堕落倾向的精神层面的拥抱,并将其称为在多年的疫情的失望之后进入虚无主义的逻辑进展)。可知对于躺平模式大多数人是持否定态度的,故选C项。 D In the rich countries of the West, the electric vehicle revolution is well occurring. Lead is dangerous, and any exposure to it is harmful to human health. But unlike many challenges faced by developing countries, lead poisoning is a problem that can be resolved through financial investment (财政投入). Better monitoring, research, and rules can help protect children all over the world from the unpleasant effects of lead poisoning and reduce the massive global costs it brings. 【答案】32. A 33. D 34. D 35. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,文章主要阐述了目前全球都在发展环保节能的电动汽车,但是铅酸电池中的铅是危险的,任何接触都对人体健康,铅中毒给人类健康、财富和福利造成的巨大损害,不仅造成死亡还带来极大的社会负担。 【32题详解】 推理判断题。第二段中“Yet a glance under the hood (引擎盖) of these vehicles reveals a poisonous secret: each tuk-tuk runs on five massive lead-acid batteries, containing almost 300 pounds of lead in total. Every year and a half or so, when those batteries need to be replaced and recycled, about 60 pounds of lead leak into the environment. Battery recycling, often at small-scale unregulated factories, is a highly profitable but deadly business.( 然而,只要看一眼这些车辆的引擎盖,就会发现一个有毒的秘密:每辆嘟嘟车都是由五块巨大的铅酸电池驱动的,总共含有近300磅的铅。每一年半左右,当这些电池需要更换和回收时,大约有60磅的铅泄漏到环境中。电池回收通常在不受监管的小型工厂进行,这是一项高利润但致命的业务。)”作者通过用具体数字列出嘟嘟车铅酸电池中铅的量来说明目前所面临的铅污染问题;由此可知,作者通过列出令人信服的数字来说明目前的铅问题。故选A。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“The numerous ways lead enters air, water, soil, and homes across the developing world — and the enormous damage it does to human health, wealth, and welfare — causes one of the biggest environmental crises in the world yet receives little attention.(在发展中国家,铅以多种方式进入空气、水、土壤和家庭——以及它对人类健康、财富和福利造成的巨大损害——造成了世界上最大的环境危机之一,但却很少受到关注。)”以及第四段中“On top of the shocking deaths, the social burden of lead poisoning is extraordinary, as is its contribution to global inequality — our research on the cognitive effects of lead poisoning suggests that it may explain about one-fifth of the educational achievement gap between rich and poor countries.(除了令人震惊的死亡之外,铅中毒的社会负担是巨大的,就像它对全球不平等的贡献一样——我们对铅中毒的认知影响的研究表明,它可以解释富国和穷国之间教育成就差距的五分之一。)”可知,在发展中国家,铅以多种方式进入空气、水、土壤和家庭,对人类健康、财富和福利造成的巨大损害,不仅造成死亡还带来极大的社会负担,使贫穷的社会更贫穷。故选D。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“But unlike many challenges faced by developing countries, lead poisoning is a problem that is fixable with some attention and a relatively modest financial investment. Better monitoring, research, and rules can help protect children all over the world from the dreadful effects of lead poisoning and reduce the massive global costs it brings.(但是,与发展中国家面临的许多挑战不同,铅中毒是一个可以通过一些关注和相对适度的财政投资来解决的问题。更好的监测、研究和规则可以帮助保护世界各地的儿童免受铅中毒的可怕影响,并减少其带来的巨大全球成本。)”可知,发展中国家可以通过一些关注和相对适度的财政投资,进行更好的监测、研究以及制定规则来解决铅污染和铅中毒问题;由此可知,发展中国家可以通过投入一定的努力和金钱解决铅中毒问题。故选D。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段中“In the rich countries of the West, the electric vehicle revolution is well underway. Climate-conscious consumers drive Teslas or Polestars for reasons of morality and fashion. Poorer countries are also experiencing a wave of electrified trend.(在西方富裕国家,电动汽车革命正在如火如荼地进行。有气候意识的消费者出于道德和时尚的原因驾驶特斯拉或北极星。较贫穷的国家也正在经历一波电气化趋势。)”以及第二段“Yet a glance under the hood (引擎盖) of these vehicles reveals a poisonous secret: each tuk-tuk runs on five massive lead-acid batteries, containing almost 300 pounds of lead in total. Every year and a half or so, when those batteries need to be replaced and recycled, about 60 pounds of lead leak into the environment. Battery recycling, often at small-scale unregulated factories, is a highly profitable but deadly business.(然而,只要看一眼这些车辆的引擎盖,就会发现一个有毒的秘密:每辆嘟嘟车都是由五块巨大的铅酸电池驱动的,总共含有近300磅的铅。 How to ask good questions Effective communication is vital for all relationship. Learning what questions to ask can improve how you work with team members, your leadership skills, and how you communicate with loved ones. _______36_______ Be a good listener. Think about it this way: If you don’t ask your question, you may make some easily avoidable mistakes. ______39______ Question asking isn’t supposed to be a fast-paced conversation. Pausing to listen between answers gives you time to think about what was said and ask better follow-up questions. Don’t feel pressured to respond quickly. Fast responses can mess with the conversation’s flow. You don’t want to feel rushed or rush others, so learn to give yourself time to think. Keep your questions short. A long question shows a lack of self-awareness. ______40______ You may want to provide enough detail in your question, but not too much. The person you’re asking should only have to hear your question once, not three or four times. Focusing on asking open-ended questions in one sentence can still set up a good conversation. A Use silence to your advantage. B. Respond with follow-up questions. C. It can end up confusing someone more than it should. D. The key to an effective communication is being a good listener. E. Here are some tips on how you can start asking better questions. F. If you’re confused about something, you have every right to ask for clarity. G. If you don’t listen properly, you may find yourself asking already-answered questions. 【答案】36. E 37. G 38. F 39. A 40. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右: 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: The bus drove off without me. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: When Mum opened the door, she surprisingly found that some of the groceries fell inside onto the floor. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The bus drove off without me. Across the street from the bus stop was a big grocery store. I went into the store and bought a turkey, ham, oranges and other goodies. I spent every dollar of my hard-earned money. The owner of the grocery store said, “Girl, the groceries have packed up like a mountain, and you can’t carry them home by yourself. So I asked two boys with carriers on their bicycles to run them the half-mile down to my house. With great excitement and tears in my eyes, I knocked on the door. When Mum opened the door, she surprisingly found that some of the groceries fell inside onto the floor. Holding back the tears I whispered “Happy New Year! A big surprise!” “Can you tell me what happened?” Mum was so excited that she cried out. I had a lot of explanation as we unpacked all the food and put it away. That day I got enough hugs and kisses from Mum. Even though I failed to get a new pair of gloves, the smile on Mum’s face made it all worthwhile. It was an unforgettable New Year for us after all! 词汇激活 行为类 ①购买:buy/purchase ②送回家:run...to my house/deliver...to my house ③解释:have a lot of explanation/explain a lot 情绪类 ①兴奋:with great excitement/with great thrillment ②难忘:unforgettable/memorable 【点睛】[高分句型1] I had a lot of explanation as we unpacked all the food and put it away.
