On April 20th, 2024, he and many volunteers started a five-week activity to pick up trash from five beaches along the Southern California coast and even some beaches in Mexico.
“The trash ends up in the ocean, and animals are eating it,” Ryan told The Orange County Register: “Picking up a piece of trash may save a turtle’s life.” He has collected around 2million bottles from beaches, lakes and rivers since 2012.
Ryan first learned about the influence of pollution at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center (PMMC, 太平洋海洋哺乳动物中心) in Lagun a Beach, which has been saving and protecting sea animals for more than 40 years. Watching sea animals improve inspired (激励) him to think about what he could do to help to save them.
From a young age, he has developed a love for recycling. He kept collecting trash and bottles for a long time. One day, Ryan knew from the workers at the PMMC that saving sea animals needed money. “Why not do something?” he thought. In 2017, by selling 50, 000 pounds of trash and more than 200, 000 recyclable bottles, Ryan handed a $10, 000 check to the PMMC.
Ryan has also travelled worldwide, speaking to kids about caring for our planet and oceans. He hopes every kid can do something.

Are you always feeling stressed? Do you want to get energetic in a short time? Let’s see what Western researchers discovered recently.
A study from University of Michigan, suggests spending at least 20 minutes walking or sitting in a place where you’re close to nature obviously can lower stress levels.
On one hand, a study from University of Alabama at Birmingham found that after people visited their local city parks, they felt happier. “In general, we found park visitors reported their moods improved a lot after the park visit,” said the researcher Hon Yuen. “We did not find a clear relationship between exercise and improved moods. Instead, we found time spent in the park is very helpful to improved moods.”
On the other hand, another study by King’s College London researchers found being outdoors, seeing trees, hearing birdsong, looking at the sky, and being close to nature were associated with higher levels of the mental health. Sometimes, these good results influenced people in a positive way for up to seven hours afterwards.
Exercising in parks can easily restore (恢复) visitors’ moods and energy levels, and communication with nature brought advantages to the mental health in the form of resting and enjoying themselves as well as building their self-confidence.
Neighborhood open spaces, especially green spaces, provide chances for social communications that may help people to further understand themselves and develop social relationships.
With so many advantages, why not put down your work and take a walk in nature?
27. How does the writer introduce the topic?
A. By giving examples. B. By making a survey.
C. By asking questions. D. By showing the result of a study.
28. Which is closest in meaning to the underlined phrase in parapgraph 4?
A. be satisfied with B. be filled with
C. have something to do with D. have problems with
29. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
A. B.
C. D.
30. What’s the writer’s main purpose of writing this article?
A. To lower readers’ stress level. B. To ask readers to build their self-confidence.
C. To make readers feel happier. D. To encourage readers to get close to nature.
【答案】27. C 28. C 29. D 30. D
【解析】
【导语】本文主要介绍了在公园里行走或者亲近大自然可以改善情绪,恢复精力。
【27题详解】

【28题详解】
词句猜测题。根据后句“Sometimes, these good results influenced people in a positive way for up to seven hours afterwards.”可知此处的“were associated with”和“influenced”有相近的含义,即“有影响,有关系”,因此与“have something to do with”含义相近。
根据结尾“With so many advantages, why not put down your work and take a walk in nature?”并结合全文可知本文主要介绍了在公园里行走或者亲近大自然可以改善情绪,恢复精力,从而鼓励大家多亲近自然。故选D。

Then they hear Chloe say, “Ah! There it is.” And they hear her walk towards the curtain. She takes something off a chair near the curtain and then sees the two boys sitting on the floor.
“What are you doing here?” she asks.
“What are you doing here?” asks Dan.
Chloe shows him her mobile phone. “But what about you two?” she asks.
Kevin takes some chocolate out of his pocket and shows it to Chloe.
“We’re having a midnight picnic.” he says.
Dylan sees the chocolate and starts wagging his tail.

On April 26, 2024, the Shenzhou XVIII manned spaceship’s three astronauts, Ye Guangfu, Li Cong and Li Guangsu successfully entered the space station and met with the Shenzhou XVII astronauts.
The crew (乘组) will carry out more than 90 experiments (实验) in space so that they can study microgravity in space, medicine and many other science topics.
This mission is special because it is China’s first space-based study of water ecosystems (生态系统). The astronauts brought a fish tank filled with water to the space station. Four zebra fish and algae (水藻) live in it. The algae can give the fish oxygen, keeping them alive. The tank can also feed the fish, control the temperature and lighting, and collect fish eggs by itself.
Why zebra fish? Because they share 87 percent of their genes (基因) with humans. Next scientists plan to take mice to space. They’ll raise them there and then bring them back to Earth for further study. Studying animals in space can help scientists understand how the human body reacts to space conditions.

【答案】例文
Dear Mike,
Thank you for your sharing and I am so proud of you. I also have many wonderful moments during junior high.
Last month, I won the school’s English speech contest. I think it was my proudest moment of my junior high. To prepare for the contest, I chose a topic I was interested in: the importance of learning English. I spent hours organizing my ideas. I also practiced my pronunciation to make sure I could speak clearly and confidently. On the big day, I felt nervous. When it was my turn to speak, I took a deep breath and began. As I spoke, I noticed the audience nodding and smiling, which encouraged me to keep going. Finally, my hard work paid off and I felt excited when I got the first prize.
Yours,
Sam

The Shenzhou XVIII crew will return after six months in space. After that, they will help achieve China’s first manned landing on the Moon.
