This report explores the frequency, acceptability, and contexts (情景) of white lies among teenagers. Method A survey was conducted with 342 high school students from various regions to gather data on their experiences and attitudes towards white lies. Participants were asked how often they tell white lies, what they think of white lies and in what contexts they tell white lies. Results The survey found that 85% of teenagers admit to telling white lies frequently to protect others’ feelings or to avoid conflicts. Their attitude to and most common situations for telling white lies are shown in the following two charts: Conclusion White lies play a significant role in the social communications of high school students, helping maintain peace and prevent minor conflicts. While generally seen as beneficial, it is crucial for young individuals to understand the boundaries and potential consequences of dishonesty in their relationships. Educational programs should include discussions on ethics (道德原则) in communication, helping students know when white lies might be acceptable. 1. What can be inferred from the two charts? A. Most participants are against telling white lies. B. White lies are harmful because they may hurt feelings. C. Most participants tell white lies to protect social relationships. D. About 10% of participants don’t know why they tell white lies. 2. What can we learn about the survey from the passage? A. It aims to explore the meaning of white lies. B. 342 teenagers and adults participated in the survey. C. 85% of participants think it’s acceptable to tell white lies. D. Its conclusion encourages more related educational programs. 3. What kind of article may this passage most probably be? A. A news story. B. A survey report. C. An online blog. D. A scientific essay. B We may think we're a culture that gets rid of our worn technology at the first sight of something shiny and new, but a new study shows that we keep using our old devices(装置) well after they go out of style. That’s bad news for the environment — and our wallets — as these outdated devices consume much more energy than the newer ones that do the same things. To figure out how much power these devices are using Callie Babbitt and her colleagues at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York tracked the environmental costs for each product throughout its life — from when its minerals are mined to when we stop using the device. This method provided a readout for how home energy use has evolved since the early 1990s. Devices were grouped by generation — Desktop computers, basic mobile phones, and box-set TVs defined 1992. Digital cameras arrived on the scene in 1997. And MP3 players, smart phones, and LCD TVs entered homes in 2002, before tablets and e-readers showed up in 2007. As we accumulated more devices, however, we didn't throw out our old ones. "The living-room television is replaced and gets planted in the kids' room, and suddenly one day, you have a TV in every room of the house," said one researcher. The average number of electronic devices rose from four per household in 1992 to 13 in 2007. We're not just keeping these old devices — we continue to use them. According to the analysis of Babbitt's team, old desktop monitors and box TVs with cathode ray tubes are the worst devices with their energy consumption and contribution to greenhouse gas emissions(排放)more than doubling during the 1992 to 2007 window. So what's the solution(解决方案)? The team's data only went up to 2007, but the researchers also explored what would happen if consumers replaced old products with new electronics that serve more than one function, such as a tablet for word processing and TV viewing. They found that more on-demand entertainment viewing on tablets instead of TVs and desktop computers could cut energy consumption by 44%. 4. What does the author think of new devices? A. They are environment-friendly. B. They are no better than the old. C. They cost more to use at home. D. They go out of style quickly. 5. Why did Babbitt's team conduct the research? A. To reduce the cost of minerals. B. To test the life cycle of a product. C. To update consumers on new technology. D. To find out electricity consumption of the devices. 6. Which of the following uses the least energy? A. The box-set TV. B. The tablet. C. The LCD TV. D. The desktop computer. 7 What does the text suggest people do about old electronic devices? A. Stop using them. B. Take them apart. C. Upgrade them. D. Recycle them. C “Lonely” is defined in the dictionary as “unhappy because you are alone or do not have anyone to talk to” . However, in my opinion, “being alone” can also be meaningful and enjoyable. In other words, “being alone” isn’t equal to “loneliness”. Actually, we can literally enjoy our time when staying alone. Think of loneliness as a time when we don’t have a group of friends around to keep us company, when we are away from the hustle and bustle (熙熙攘攘) of the outside world; when we get the chance to tune in to our inner world; when we are given the time to focus entirely on ourselves. It is during these periods that, without being disturbed and distracted, we are able to discover the things we truly want from our lives. This process is like digging a tunnel, through which we improve ourselves, achieve our goals and get the power to prepare for the difficulty or darkness we may meet with in our future lives. A famous figure skater (花滑冰运动员) once said in his interview that he often felt lonely, but the outside environment would to some extent affect his mind and body, making it difficult for him to concentrate during his practice and performance, and thus he was actually willing to be alone and at times would rather be isolated from the world. This type of “loneliness” must be one of the reasons why he has been able to deliver so many wonderful performances throughout his career. So don’t be frightened by the temporary emptiness or unhappy feeling when you have to be alone. Instead, cherish and enjoy the sense of loneliness you get when you are completely free. Spend time with yourself. We become more independent in loneliness. We grow stronger in loneliness. Most importantly, we find our complete selves in loneliness. 8. What’s the author’s opinion about “being alone”? A. There is no point in being alone. B. Being alone is as something shameful C. Being alone means being lonely and helpless. D. We appreciate our time more when we are alone. 9. How does the author develop Paragraph 2? A. By listing figures. B. By making comparisons. C. By analyzing causes. D. By providing examples. 10. Why is the figure skater mentioned in the passage? A. To show athletes always feel lonely. B. To describe the factor of the success. C. To confirm the positive effect of “loneliness”. D. To indicate loneliness is as important as practice. 11. What is the author’s purpose for writing this passage? A. To illustrate different opinions on staying alone. B. To persuade people into staying away from others. C. To offer some suggestions on how to spend time alone. D. To encourage people to value and enjoy their time of loneliness. D I remember that it was a fall morning when the orchestra (管弦乐队) teachers came into Miss Newell’s third-grade classroom. “You have hands for the viola (中提琴),” Miss Ciano told me. I was excited because my hands were finally good for something. I told my parents I wanted to play, and naturally, they agreed. Since I first touched the viola, I haven’t been able to put it down. Ignoring the difficulty, I am pulled closer to it each day. Classical music is truly my best friend. It is the trusted friend of every man, woman and child. Various feelings are expressed in classical music. I discovered that when I was eleven and played a cello concerto (大提琴协奏曲) of Bach in a competition, the first movement was joyful, but the second movement was mysterious and full of pain. From the piece, I learned that music expresses not only feelings, but also sudden mood changes. By listening to classical music, I know that someone else shares these feelings. Since I am lucky enough to be able to play classical music, I am comforted by it when I am upset. It gives me a way to escape from my problems for a short period. Classical music can express my joy, sadness and anger. Now look back at that fall day in the third grade and think how gullible I was for believing that anyone, even music teachers, could tell whether hands were perfect for a certain instrument. I’m certain they told me I had “ viola hands” not because they were fortune-tellers (算命师), but because there was a lack of violists in our district. Classical music is one of the best things that ever happened to mankind. If you get introduced to it in the right way, it will become your friend for life. 12. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the first and second paragraphs? A. To introduce an interesting musical class. B. To offer the evidence of her gift for music. C. To show the importance of proper guide. D. To tell the power of support from parents. 13. According to the passage, in what way does classical music help the author? A. By developing social skills. B. By improving mental health. C. By broadening life experience. D. By building close relationship. 14. What does the underlined word “gullible” mean in the last paragraph? A. Easily tricked. B. Firmly loved. C. Greatly challenged. D. Secretly hidden. 15. Which could be the best title for the passage? A. Special event sweet memory. B. Classical music, endless friendship C. Lifetime dream, great effort. D. Happy childhood, unforgotten experience. Why are people taking pictures of their faces, their hobbies and their food? Every weekend, the two would go together on a hiking to climb nearby mountains. As they got near to the top, the path was rocky and less-traveled. After an hour, they reached the top, touched by the beautiful view there. Lost in the breathtaking scenery, Robert felt refreshed. When he looked at the loyal friend beside him, the memory of meeting Lucky for the first time flooded into his mind. It had been about two years since Robert got Lucky. She was small and a ball of energy. “The day when my mother let me choose a dog from the doghouse, she was playfully jumping around and licking (舔) me, barking (犬吠) loudly to show how much she wanted to be my family,” thought Robert. “She looked quite small, but from the moment I threw my eyes on her, I knew she was the perfect dog for me. And, for some reasons, that active energy was something that I needed in my life,” Robert kept thinking. Time flew, dark night drawing near. Having got enough rest, Robert decided it was time to go home. Suddenly, Robert lost his balance, rolled down a rocky hill, hit his head really hard, and finally stopped upside down. One of his leg was in between two rocks, so he couldn’t move. But that was the least of his worries. What Robert was really scared of was that he was going to sleep with a serious head injury. He tried to cry for help, but he was so weak that he was going to become unconscious (昏迷的). “If only there had been someone else,” Robert thought, sad and hopeless. As darkness fell further, the weather turned cold and windy and he was about to lose consciousness. What’s worse, Robert noticed something like a snake approaching him before he finally fell unconscious. Paragraph 1: Fortunately, Lucky was there all the time and never stopped barking for help. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: After seeing unconscious Robert, the two strangers managed to wake him up. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力答案:1-5 BBCAA 6-10 CCBAA 11-15 CBBAC 16-20 CCBAB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 四川省万源中学高2026届第二次月考试题 (高一下英语) 第一部分:听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 听下面5段对话。 1. A. D 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第一段中“ However, in my opinion, “being alone” can also be meaningful and enjoyable. In other words, “being alone” isn’t equal to “loneliness”. Actually, we can literally enjoy our time when staying alone.(然而,在我看来,“独处”也可以是有意义的和愉快的。换句话说,“独处”并不等于“孤独”。事实上,我们可以真正享受独处的时光)”可知,作者认为我们应该更珍惜独处的时光。故选D。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“Think of loneliness as a time when we don’t have a group of friends around to keep us company, when we are away from the hustle and bustle (熙熙攘攘) of the outside world; when we get the chance to tune in to our inner world; when we are given the time to focus entirely on ourselves. (把孤独想象成没有一群朋友陪伴的时候,当我们远离喧嚣的外部世界的时候;当我们有机会进入自己的内心世界时;当我们有时间完全关注自己的时候)”和“This process is like digging a tunnel, through which we improve ourselves, achieve our goals and get the power to prepare for the difficulty or darkness we may meet with in our future lives.(这个过程就像挖掘一条隧道,通过它我们提高自己,实现我们的目标,并获得力量,为我们未来生活中可能遇到的困难或黑暗做好准备)”可知,作者是通过把孤独比作时间展开的。 根据第三段“A famous figure skater (花滑冰运动员) once said in his interview that he often felt lonely, but the outside environment would to some extent affect his mind and body, making it difficult for him to concentrate during his practice and performance, and thus he was actually willing to be alone and at times would rather be isolated from the world. This type of “loneliness” must be one of the reasons why he has been able to deliver so many wonderful performances throughout his career. (一位著名的花样滑冰运动员曾在接受采访时表示,他经常感到孤独,但外界环境会在一定程度上影响他的身心,使他在练习和表演时难以集中精力,因此他其实是愿意独处的,有时甚至宁愿与外界隔绝。这种“孤独”一定是他在整个职业生涯中能够提供如此多精心制作和精彩表演的原因之一)”可推知,文章中提到著名的花样滑冰运动员是为了确认“孤独”的积极作用。故选C。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,尤其根据最后一段中“So don’t be frightened by the temporary emptiness or unhappy feeling when you have to be alone. Instead, cherish and enjoy the sense of loneliness you get when you are completely free. Spend time with yourself. We become more independent in loneliness. We grow stronger in loneliness. Most importantly, we find our complete selves in loneliness.(所以,当你不得不独自一人时,不要被暂时的空虚或不快乐的感觉所吓倒。相反,珍惜和享受你完全自由时的孤独感。花时间和自己在一起。我们在孤独中变得更加独立。我们在孤独中变得更坚强。最重要的是,我们在孤独中找到完整的自我)”可推知,作者写这篇文章的目的是鼓励人们学会珍惜和享受孤独的时光。故选D。 D I remember that it was a fall morning when the orchestra (管弦乐队) teachers came into Miss Newell’s third-grade classroom. A. Special event, sweet memory. B. Classical music, endless friendship C. Lifetime dream, great effort. D. Happy childhood, unforgotten experience. C 13. B 14. A 15. 根据文章第一段第二句老师说的话“You have hands for the viola (中提琴)(你有一双拉提琴的手)”,第一段最后一句“I told my parents I wanted to play, and naturally, they agreed.(我告诉父母我想拉琴,他们自然同意了)”以及第二段最后一句“Ignoring the difficulty, I am pulled closer to it each day.(无视困难,我每天都离它越来越近)”因为老师的一句话以及父母的支持,作者才接触到古典音乐,并且坚持下去。 根据第三段倒数三句“I am comforted by it when I am upset. It gives me a way to escape from my problems for a short period. Classical music can express my joy, sadness and anger. (当我难过的时候,古典音乐给了我安慰。它给了我一个暂时逃避问题的方法。古典音乐可以表达我的喜悦、悲伤和愤怒)”可知,古典音乐可以帮助作者改善精神状况。故选B项。 【14题详解】 词句猜测题。文章第四段中画线词后的一二句“for believing that anyone, even music teachers, could tell whether hands were perfect for a certain instrument. I’m certain they told me I had “ viola hands” not because they were fortune-tellers (算命师), but because there was a lack of violists in our district.(因为相信任何人,甚至是音乐老师,都能分辨出某人的手是否适合弹奏某种乐器。我确定他们告诉我,我有‘一双拉中提琴的手’不是因为他们是算命先生,而是因为在那个地区缺少中提琴演奏者)”可知,作者认识到当时相信了老师说自己“有一双拉中提琴的手”,而这其实并不是真话,由此可以猜测作者觉得自己轻信了老师的话,即gullible意思为“轻信的,易受骗的”。 故选A项。 根据文章第三段第一句“Classical music is truly my best friend.(古典音乐是我最好的朋友)”和文章最后一句“If you get introduced to it in the right way, it will become your friend for life.(如果你以正确的方式了解它,它将成为你终生的朋友)”可知,本文主要讲述了作者一个偶然的机会开始拉中提琴,从此古典音乐成了作者最好的朋友。 Why are people taking pictures of their faces, their hobbies and their food? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Fortunately, Lucky was there all the time and never stopped barking for help. First, the tiny dog tried to wake her owner up by licking his face, but it didn’t work. Then she grabbed Robert’s clothes in her mouth to drag him out of the rocks, but still in vain. When she noticed the nearby snake, she barked restlessly to stop it from attacking Robert. The dog’s barking, echoing in the mountains, was so loud that two passers-by were attracted to come near the spot. Hearing someone above, Lucky ran up the hill to lead them to his injured owner. After seeing unconscious Robert, the two strangers managed to wake himup. Without delay, they called for help and then dragged him out of the rocks with great strength. Breathing a sigh of relief, they gave Robert water and checked his head injury. Before the medical help arrived, they kept Robert warm and told him it was his dog that saved him. Looking down into Lucky’s loving eyes, Robert knew he had made the right decision in choosing Lucky as his companion. He realized that his dog’s energy was more than something he just needed. Lucky was really a loyal and brave friend as well as a devoted family member. 3. 词汇激活 行类 ①注意:notice/observe ②组织:stop/prevent ③检查:check/examine 情绪类 ①不安地:restlessly/anxiously ②忠诚的:loyal/faithful 【点睛】[高分句型1]When she noticed the nearby snake, she barked restlessly to stop it from attacking Robert.(when引导的时间状语从句) [高分句型2]The dog’s barking, echoing in the mountains, was so loud that two passers-by were attracted to come near the spot.(so...that句型) 听力答案:1-5 BBCAA 6-10 CCBAA 11-15 CBBAC 16-20 CCBAB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
