Have you still remembered what happened when you went to school on the first day? I still remember my interesting first day of school. On that day, I hurried to my science class in the morning and found a seat in the back. I waited there for 15 minutes before the bell rang. The science teacher told us about some class rules. No one talked to me, nor did I talk to anyone else. I was one of those very shy girls. After the science class, I had an English class. I thought it would be boring but it turned out to be very funny.
When the classes of the morning ended I went to lunch. I sat outside the dining room with no one to talk to and no food because I was too nervous to join the lunch line. I kept looking around hoping to see someone I knew but I never saw anyone.
Lunch ended and I went to have my art class. I was the first one there and not even my teacher was there yet. So I sat at my desk and started drawing some pictures. I didn’t notice the rest of the class walking in or the girl that was standing behind me until I was surprised by the voice. “So what are you drawing?” It was a girl who had really long hair. She ended up being my best friend and one of the kindest and liveliest girls I know.

Many Canadian kids woke up to the smell of wildfire smoke last summer. Some are wondering: Is it dangerous? How can I protect myself?
Is wildfire smoke dangerous?
For most people, the effect of wildfire smoke is only short-lived. Effects can include irritation (刺激) of the eyes, nose and throat; coughing and shortness of breath. They will get worse the more time you spend outdoors, especially if you’re active outside—doing sports and other exercise.
The key to staying safe? Stay inside.
Both Kovesi and Hughes agree that the best thing for kids to do is stay inside when wildfire smoke is in the air. “It’s especially important for kids who are super active to stop those activities. This is not the time to go jogging play soccer and other sports,” Hughes said. “Those activities require you to breathe harder and deeper, which may put you in danger.”
Other steps you can take.
It’s best to close your windows and doors when inside. You can also use an air conditioner. Kovesi said that masks can also help lower the risk a little, particularly N95 masks. But they need to be worn correctly.

As climate change continues to affect us, many small islands around the world face the risk of disappearing into the sea.
In Fiji, an island country in the Pacific, hundreds of communities need to move to a new place due to climate change, including the village on Serua Island. However, most of Serua Island’s people have chosen to stay because they love their land and their culture.
“Our ancestors (祖先) chose to live and stay on the island just so they could be close to our chief (首长) ” one local told the Conversation Media Group.
The decision to stay is because of a deep sense of duty to their chief, their ancestors and the ocean. For many people there, the ocean around Serua Island is not only just a place where they can make a living but also they follow their own history and traditions. Moreover, moving to a new place also might change who they think they are and their way of life.
These hard decisions are not just limited to Fiji, but global. As climate changes quickly, governments must realize that moving to a new place is not always the answer. Moving plans should consider local people’ cultural needs and support those who choose to stay.
70. Why don’t Serua Island’s people want to move to a new place?
A. Their ancestors still live on the island. B. Climate change doesn’t affect them.
C. All local people want to be a chief. D. They love their land and culture.
71. What can we know from the passage?
A. The island must disappear into the sea.
B. Moving can change people’s way of life.
C. Climate changes become worse and worse.
D. People on the island have no food and money.
72. According to the last paragraph, what should the government do for moving plans?
A. It should ask everyone to follow the plans.
B. It should help people to find a new place.
C. It should stop the climate changes quickly.
D. It should consider more about the plans.

If you go to the UK, you’re sure to see some small red “boxes” on the streets. They are postboxes. They are an important part of Britain.
King Charles I started the British Royal Mail service in 1635. Then in 1840, Royal Mail brought out the first stamp, the Penny Black. But people still had to go to the post office to send a letter or wait for a bellman to collect it.
Anthony Trollope, who worked in a British post office, had an idea. While traveling for work in Europe, he saw roadside postboxes in France and Belgium. He thought similar boxes would be good in Britain. In 1852, the first postboxes were made, but they were only used on the Channel Islands.
The next year postboxes started to appear all over Britain. At first, they were green and of different shapes and sizes. But there were problems. People couldn’t always see them and even walked into them. So in 1874, Royal Mail made them all red. By 1879, the postboxes all became the way they look now—red, tall, and with a round hat-like shape at the top to keep out the rain.
Over the years, the General Post Office has kept making the boxes. Every box has the royal cypher (徽章) on it. It shows who the king or queen was when the box was made.

When the classes of the morning ended I went to lunch. I sat outside the dining room with no one to talk to and no food because I was too nervous to join the lunch line. I kept looking around hoping to see someone I knew but I never saw anyone.

This is not the time to go jogging, play soccer and other sports,” Hughes said.
62. What’s the purpose of Paragraph 1?
A. To ask a question. B. To lead into the topic.
C. To describe a story. D. To give an example.

【答案】70. D 71. B 72. D

The next year, postboxes started to appear all over Britain.
