You've probably heard of Walt Disney, the man who created famous characters like Mickey Mouse and Cinderella. But did you know that his journey to success was filled with challenges and troubles?
After serving in World War I, Disney worked at an art studio(工作室) in Kansas City. But he dreamed of something bigger—he wanted to create his own cartoons. So, together with his brother Roy, they started their own cartoon company. Unfortunately, their company didn’t do well, and Disney found it hard to make ends meet(收支平衡). He had to cut costs wherever he could, even turning to eating cheap food just to get by(过得去).
Disney didn't lose hope. He kept working hard and finally created a character named Oswald the Rabbit. It seemed like things were turning around , but unfortunately, Disney lost both his team and the rights to Oswald the Rabbit, leaving him feeling lost.
But Walt Disney was a man who did not give up easily. On the train home from New York, where he had another trouble, he came up with an idea—a character named Mickey Mouse. He believed Mickey could be something special, but when he tried to get funding for his new cartoon, nobody offered support. Over 300 bankers laughed at his idea and turned him away.
Disney kept pushing forward, and finally, he found someone who believed in him. With the support he needed, Disney's cartoons took off, and the rest is history.
Today, Disney's company is worth over $200 billion. But his story teaches us about something more than just success.

Botswana is a country in Africa. It has about 130,000 elephants, the most in Africa. These big animals often go to towns to find food and water. They can eat crops(庄稼) in farms, destroy houses and sometimes even step on people.
To help with the problem of too many elephants, Botswana lets people hunt them, but only up to 400 elephants each year. People can also take home their “trophies(战利品)”, such as the tusks(象牙). But Germany doesn’t like this idea. Some people there think it’s bad for the Earth.
In response to Germany, Botswana had a funny plan. They planned to send some elephants to Germany, so people there could see what it's like to have lots of playful elephants running around!
Think in a different way: Perhaps we can work together to find a smarter and kinder way to help deal with the playful elephants.
● Make fences(栅栏) with beehives(蜂巢) or chili peppers(辣椒) around towns. Elephants don't like these two things.
● Use satellites(卫星) and AI to track(追踪) elephants.
● Build special paths for elephants.

49. B 【解析】根据下文“Adam stopped in the doorway”可知, David 和 Adam 径直前往弟弟的房间。
故选A。
故选 A。
故选 A。
54. A 【解析】根据下文“Adam held the cat up”可知,一只小猫(cat)从枕套里出来了。故选 A。
故填for。
故填first。
联系下文“The next year, postboxes started to appear all over Britain”可知,第二年,这种邮箱才遍布全英国,此处说明是仅仅在海峡群岛上使用,所以 only 符合题意。故填only。
故填But。
故填them。
故填with。
故填but。
故填an。
69. is 【解析】此处是 there be句型, there be句型遵循就近原则,由于空后是单数,因此此处be 动词用is。故填is。
故填that。

The biggest progress I've ever made
We grow up in change. Growth makes our life full of meaning. Looking back at the three years of junior high school, the biggest progress I've ever made is that I have fallen in love with reading.
When I was a child, I didn't enjoy books at all. Later, my mother always read stories to me and bought me books. In my free time, we always read books in the library together. Gradually, I began to love reading. While reading, I feel like talking with a wise man. He can guide me to a wonderful world. Slowly, I found I could write better articles in Chinese. Reading is not only a fantastic way to enjoy my free time, but it also helps me become better.
Now books are my friends. Through reading, I have made a lot of progress.
