The character, Hua Mulan, introduces Chinese culture to the world in Disney’s 1998 cartoon movie and its new live-action (真人拍摄的) movie. She becomes a world star.
In the movies, Mulan dresses herself like a boy and takes her father’s place to fight in the army. She wins the respect of the whole nation and turns into a great soldier.
According to Alex Xin, an art researcher at Peking University, Mulan in the Western world has changed over the past twenty years, from a heroine in Westerners’ eyes to an authentic (地道的) Chinese girl. “When you check the 1998 cartoon, Mulan was described as a fighter for women’s rights, but it missed the point, as the original (最初的) story was mainly about traditional family value. I’m glad that the new film has included this important point, showing that after twenty years. Westerners now have a better understanding of Chinese culture,” Alex Xin said.

One morning, I got up early and decided to make an apple pie for my mom. I called my grandma for help, followed a TV program to make jam and waited excitedly. I enjoyed every step so much that I didn’t notice three hours pass by. Although the pie looked terrible and was not that delicious, Mom ate it up and told me it was the best pie that she had ever had. For the first time, I realized that although I didn’t make the pie successfully, I really enjoyed the process.
The process is important because it brings us something bigger than the result itself. That is, we always have new experiences during the process, which may help us improve our skills or form good relationships with others. If we just concentrate on the result and do not enjoy the process, we will be more likely to feel disappointed and want to give up. As a result, we will never understand the real meaning of success.
But in this busy world, we see a lot of successful people are in competition. How can we enjoy the process? Well, the question has the answer in itself.
Don’t always compare yourself with others. First of all, we are all different. And success means different things to us. For some, success means being famous, while for others, it may be health or power. Ride your own ride.
Slow down. You need to stop expecting immediate results in what you do and learn to be patient. Impatience leads to unhappiness. Do it slowly, but never stop.
Reward (奖励) yourself. Divide the process into small steps, and give yourself a reward after completing each of them. Rewarding yourself for small wins can go a long way. For example, if you are in the process of losing weight, enjoy your favorite cake once in a while.
25. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By comparing facts. B. By using old sayings. C. By giving an example.
26. What do the underlined words “concentrate on” mean in Paragraph 2?
A. Make up. B. Pay attention to. C. Point out.
27. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
A. B. C.
28. Which would be the best title for the passage?
A. Enjoy the Process B. What does Success Mean to Us C. Never Give Up

Recently, Venetia Berry, an artist in London, counted up the free cotton bags in her house. There were at least 25. She got these cotton bags from eco-fashion brands, art shops, hotels, and even an apple farm. “You get them without choosing,” said Berry.
Cotton bags have become a way for brands, shops and supermarkets to show that they care about the overuse of plastic bags in packaging. There was a shop stop in using cotton bags during the pandemic when there were fears that reusable bags could carry and spread the virus, but they are now fully back in force.
So far, so earth-friendly? Not exactly. It turns out the popularity of cotton bags may actually have created new problems. The production of cotton needs lots of water. And dealing with cotton bags in an environmentally friendly way is far from as simple as people think. You can’t, for example, just put a cotton bag in a dustbin. Even when a cotton bag does make it to a special treatment plant, most dyes used to print pictures on them are PVC-based and cannot be recycled. Printed pictures have to be cut out of the cloth. About 10 to 15 percent of the cotton is wasted this way.
That’s not to say cotton is worse than plastic. Cotton may use pesticides and has dried up rivers from water consumption, but making plastic bags will produce much greenhouse gas and pollute the land and rivers.
A clothing company stopped production of its cotton bags in April this year. Some brands are turning to other ways. However, the simplest way may be the clearest—not every product needs a bag.

四、阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,计10分)
阅读下面短文,完成短文后的问题。
My 100 Days Without a Mobile Phone
When was the last time you left home without your mobile phone? Can you imagine yourself living a month, or even a year without checking your mobile phone from time to time?
As a busy modern person with lots of social connections, plans and responsibilities, I just cannot afford to not be in touch with the rest of the world. Staying connected to other people is a big part of my life. However, sometimes it can be bothersome (恼人的).
One day I discovered I was terribly tired out. I tried turning notifications (通知) off. But the fear of missing out something important made me check the phone more often than before. So, I simply stopped using my phone. Well, to tell the truth, it was not simple at all. For the first couple of days, I had a big fear that all of my friends would soon forget about me. When I had a free moment, I had no idea what to get myself distracted (分心的) with, and the worries mixed with boredom kept bothering me.
However, after three weeks without a mobile phone, I started noticing changes— changes which I liked, and which drove me to not just continue the experiment, but in fact to reorganize some of my habits.
First of all, I noticed that I became much more focused (专注的). Before, doing something, I would often find myself wondering what was going on online. After a month of staying away from my mobile phone. I found that the urge (冲动) was already not that strong and that my ability to focus improved.
I discovered that the world is a beautiful place. Before, I would look at it through my camera mostly: take a photo, post it, get some likes. Now, I saw beautiful people walking around and I sensed the seasons change. I could understand the actual beauty of the world, and I did not need anyone else to prove the value of this beauty through likes or shares. Now, as 100 days have passed, I can say that the experiment was worth it. I am planning to stay away from my phone for as long as possible.

As one of the oldest countries in the world. China has a long history and wonderful culture. Chinese culture is deep and difficult to understand for foreigners. But by introducing traditional Chinese culture in popular styles such as films, it is much easier for foreigners to understand China.

Never Give Up
D
29. Venetia Berry is mentioned in Paragraph 1 to show ________.
A. the fame of the artist
B The popularity of cotton bags
C. The way people get cotton bags
30. Why do many companies use cotton bags?
A. They believe cotton bags are friendly to the environment.
B. They want to follow the new fashion of cotton bags.
C. They think plastic bags are not convenient.
31. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A. The overuse of cotton bags.
B. The importance of special treatment plants.
C. The troubles caused by using cotton bags.
32. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. Earth-friendly bags
B. The differences between cotton bags and plastic bags
C. The problems of the cotton bags

People noticed the surprising behavior while watching wild koalas in Australia. During rainstorms or right after, rainwater dropped down from tree trunks. Some koalas got the running water while they sat in the trees. One koala was so thirsty that it kept licking a wet tree trunk for more than 30 minutes without stopping.
