Every girl dreams and Li Xue is one of them. She hopes one day she will be a ballet dancer. She has taken ballet lessons and all her teachers think she is a good student.
One day she heard lots of famous ballet dancers would perform in her home town.
Her thoughts ran wildly. “I must meet up with the leader of the ballet dancers and show him my skills,” she said to herself.
Luckily she met the leader. She bravely handed him a bunch(束) of red roses. She was so excited that she hurt her hands.
The leader looked at her as she told him her dream. “All right, you dance and I will give you my opinion.”
But half way through the dance he stopped her and said, “I’m sorry you’re not good enough!”

On hearing this, Li Xue ran as fast as her legs could carry her. She gave up her dream.
Many years later, she heard that the same ballet dancers were performing in her town again. This time she decided to find out why the leader had told her that she was not good enough while all her teachers thought she was good.
This was his reply, “I tell this to every student. And I still remember your gift of roses and how you hurt your hands but you went on bravely. I think you should have treated ballet like that and that you should not give up so easily.”

People depend on plants. We use plants for food, cloth, shelter(住处) and even the air we breathe.
Plants keep our air and water clean. Green plants give us oxygen(氧气). Oxygen is part of the air we breathe.
Plants are also part of the water cycle(水循环). Most of the water that a plant takes in goes back into the air.
Plants give us a lot of food on the earth. Fruits, vegetables, and grains(谷物) come from plants. Without plants, we would not have bread, rice, carrots, apples, oranges, or bananas! Many people are growing plants to eat in their own gardens at home. Having your own garden helps the earth as well.

When you grow your own fruits and vegetables, you help cut down on pollution because big trucks don’t need to take your food to shops. You also help reduce the amount of rubbish because you don’t need to use bags to pack your food. You can just pick it out of the ground or off a plant and put it into a basket!
Trees are an important plant resource(资源).Trees provide wood to build homes and make furniture. Trees are used to make lots of things around your home and at your school. And trees provide fruits that are good for you. Without trees, the earth would be a very different place.

Have you ever wondered what goes through your mind(头脑) when you choose where to sit in a new classroom? Or in a waiting room full of strangers? Researchers have found out some interesting facts.
Girls sit by girls and boys sit by boys. Adults(成年人) sit together and young people choose another young person to sit near. But it goes further than this. We even choose to sit near someone who looks like us. People with glasses like to sit near other people with glasses. People with long hair sit closer to other people with long hair.

We seem to believe that people with similar habits or hobbies will share similar experiences and that we are more likely to be accepted by people like ourselves, or even that we think we may be safer with people who look like us. Sometimes that’s true but it’s a pity if we always stay with the same people, the same group. The danger of always staying in our comfort zone(舒适区) is that we just recycle the same opinions, the same tastes and the same ideas. We lose the chance to learn something new, find out interesting things, hear fun stories and discover differences.
When we always stay with the same people, how can we break down the barriers which stop us from getting to know people with different ideas? And how can we avoid the ignorance(无知)? If you want to live in a society that accepts changes, new things and different opinions, be the cat among the pigeons(鸽子).

Move out of your comfort zone. Go and sit next to someone different. And don’t just sit there in silence. Say hello. Ask a question. Start a conversation. That’s how we make friends. That’s how we learn about people. That’s how we open our minds to new ideas. That’s how we live an exciting life.

Dress properly
Dress properly in a way that is appropriate(适合的) for the place that you are going to. If you are going to an event where people dress in a formal way, do the same. For example, do not wear blue jeans or a T-shirt to a dinner party. But it is acceptable to dress casually(穿着随意) if you are going to a museum or a movie theater.
Use table manners
When you eat in public places, use your table manners.
They may help you leave a good impression. In Western countries, do not pick up food with your hands. You should pick up the food with a fork or a spoon. When you are in China, you shouldn’t start eating first if there are older people at the table. Using your phone while having a meal is bad behaviour too.

The activities on Space Day of China
Last month, I took part in the space club activities held by the Science and Technology Museum on Space Day of China. In the Science and Technology Museum, first of all, I heard some stories about astronauts and learned the scientific spirit. Next, I did some physics experiments and increased my knowledge of science. Finally, it made me more interested in space travel by visiting the exhibition.
I think we should take part in more of these activities. These activities can keep our thirst for space knowledge alive and enhance our enthusiasm for science as well.
