With the development of science and technology, our life has changed a lot. Let's take 5G for
example. 5G has brought us safer self-driving cars. These cars can send signals to each other. They
also “talk” to traffic lights and road sensors (传感器). 5G will allow cars to react (反应) even faster
than human drivers.
5G also makes the Internet of Things (IoT,物联网) possible. IoT is a large network that connects
everything to the Internet. Smart homes are part of it. The most widely used smart home technology is
the voice-activated assistant (语音激活助手), such as Google Home and Amazon's Alexa. They both
allow users to connect with nearly anything in their home simply by speaking a few words. This is
especially good for children and disabled people, as they can do things that would normally be too
difficult.
With the help of science and technology, common electrical products can become “smart” as well.
For example, according to How Stuff Works, a smart trash bin can keep track of (追踪 ) the things
you've thrown away and place an online order for new items. Smart fridges can create dinner recipe
based on the food inside.
But it's more than just convenient. Smart homes are also environmentally-friendly. There is no
need for people to turn off lights and other things by themselves. Instead, these things will
automatically go off when they are not used. In this way, much electricity can be saved. Using less
energy means that we use fewer natural resources, which is good for the environment.
24. Which of the following TRUE?
A. Self-driving cars can run traffic lights by “talking” to them.
B. Self-driving cars communicate with each other by sending signals.
C. Self-driving cars are safer and faster.
25.What can a smart fridge do?
A. Create a dinner with the food inside.
B. Tell you how to cook.
C. Place an online order.
26.What does the underlined word “automatically” mean?
A.神奇地 B.规律地 C.自动地
27.Which of the following is the best title for this passage?
A.Science and technology change our life.
B.Smart technology makes human beings greater.
C.5G network—a nicer way of living.

Everyone is born creative. It allows you to think in a new way or deal with problems creatively.
That is why many young people would like to invent something new. Here are two examples.
Yan Zeteng, a student from Tsinghua University, created an invention named Shield, which is
mainly used to collect the rubbish in the sea. Shield makes use of ocean waves (波浪) so that it can
pick up the rubbish in the sea easily. With Shield, Yan wanted to do his part to protect the
environment.
Tibrewala, a teenager, created a special walker with her friend Karthikeva, which could help
patients with Parkinson's disease (帕金森病). “My grandmother has Parkinson's and it is difficult for
her to walk,” Tibrewala said. So they have spent about two years designing (设计 ) the walker and
testing it. The walker is easy to use and it has improved many patients' life.
How can we develop creative things? Here are some suggestions. First, ask questions over and
over again. It is important because it will help you develop your own way of thinking. Second, don't
rush. There are always situations where you need to finish a task within a certain period of time. Don't
try to finish it in a hurry. Leave yourself enough time and space to think, plan and complete it. Last
but not least, encourage risk-taking. Creative ideas come from the risk. Keep trying even when you are
in the face of the possibility of failure.
