AWhy are planes usually white? There are many reasons. First, this color can protect planes from sunlight. Also, white lets people see damage (损坏) on planes more easily. Third, white planes are easier to see at night or during bad weather.
Blue masks are common in hospitals. In the earlier years, the masks were white. But it was found that the white masks would reflect light and make doctors’ eyes painful. Besides, blue can make people feel less nervous and not afraid. Also, blue doesn’t show dirt easily.
Tires are all black. Why? Early car tires had a much lighter color. That’s because they were made of natural rubber. Its color is off-white. Later, people added carbon black to the tires. This makes tires look black. Michelin is a French tire company. It made colorful car tires in 1996. But the colorful tires would attract drivers. This could cause car accidents.
The color helps tigers catch their “meals”. The eyes of some animals, like deer, are different from human eyes. Orange is bright to humans. But deer see the color as green. In the forest, they can’t see these “green” tigers. So, it is easy for tigers to hide and catch them.

“Quickly, Dorothy,” she shouted. “Go to the cellar (地窖).”
Aunt Em ran to the door of the cellar and opened it. Dorothy picked up Toto and ran to the cellar door. Before she could climb down the ladder into the cellar, a great cyclone(龙卷风) picked up the house. It turned it round and round and round and then carried it high into the sky.
It was not very dark. Dorothy felt as if she were riding through the sky. She held on to Toto and climbed under her bed, where she stayed for several hours. Then, although the house was still moving, she fell asleep.
When she woke up, she did not know how much later, the house was on the ground. It was in a field full of flowers, and there were hundreds of beautifully colored birds flying about and singing. Not far away, there was a stream with clear, fresh water.
Dorothy was still under her bed. She got up and left the house. She was surprised to see three little men and a little woman walking toward her. They were very strangely dressed. The men’s clothes were white and had little stars all over them.
When they saw Dorothy, they walked up to her and bowed.
“Welcome to the land of the Munchkins,” one of the little men said. “We thank you for killing the Wicked Witch of the East. Now our people are free.”
“I'm afraid you are making a mistake,” Dorothy said. “I didn’t kill any witch.”
“Your house did,” one of the little men said. “Look!”
He pointed to the house. Dorothy saw two feet sticking out from under it.
“Oh!” Dorothy shouted. “The house fell on her. What can I do?”
“There is nothing to do,” the little woman said. “The Wicked Witch of the East is dead, and the Munchkins are thankful to you.”
“Are you a Munchkin?” Dorothy asked.
“No, but I am their friend,” the little woman said. “I am the Witch of the North.”

Today we can do everything with apps. However, when it comes to technology and health care, chances and challenges come together.
Telemedicine can allow a patient to use technology to see the doctor online and get a diagnosis(诊断) and instructions without leaving home. In addition, there are many patient websites. These allow for different kinds of interactions about our health needs without the medical team.
However, every coin has two sides. What might be on the other side of techno-health care?
Firstly, we should think about the health care experience as a whole. A usual visit to the doctor begins with a receptionists(接待员), who can see and know how a patient is doing. This may influence the treatment effect. It’s impossible that a patient website will have such intuition.
Next, sharing the details of one’s life requires trust, which takes time to build. This is certainly true in health care, where patients can share some of life’s best and worst moments with doctors. This human touch maybe isn’t there over the smartphone.
Lastly, test results can be difficult to understand. When someone without a medical degree sees a flagged(打记号的) result with no explanation on the website, there’s room for all kinds of stories to form in their minds— and also great worry.
So how does medicine adapt(适应) to the new technology age? Very talented companies are working on it. There is medical equipment(设备) that can be used at home to send necessary signs and heart sounds through telemedicine. It seems likely that some companies will find a way to explain test results.
But what it will not achieve is the warmth of human interaction and touch. Patients often need someone to listen to and care about their journey story, which will never be realized through technology. Technology should be a tool, but depending on it completely will most certainly have unexpected effects.
31. According to the passage, how does technology help health care?
A. It encourages doctors to share their stories online.
B. It offers the patient a way to get a diagnosis easily.
C. It improves relations between doctors and patients.
D. It provides a chance to build a medical team.
32. What do you know about techno-health care from the passage?
A. Patient websites require trust from doctors.
B. Talented companies can give medical advice.
C. Flagged results may cause worry for patients
D. Medical equipment collects patients’ stories.
33. The writer probably agrees that_________.
A. technology can deal with unexpected results
B. we can depend on techno-health completely
C. it is difficult to adapt to the new technology age
D. techno-health care should consider humanity
D
Awe is the feeling we get in the presence of something vast that challenges our understanding of the world, like looking up at millions of stars in the night sky or shaking hands with a basketball superstar. When people feel awe, they may use other words to talk about the experience, such as wonder, amazement or excitement.
We often think about awe when we experience uncommon and extraordinary(非凡的) events, such as viewing a sunrise over the Grand Canyon or watching Olympians break world records. But when scientists study people’s experiences of awe, they suggest awe is also found in everyday life—watching a gingko tree change from green to yellow, or seeing a stranger give food to a homeless person.
The feeling of awe affects the way we view ourselves. The experience of awe can have a deep influence on our mental (心理的) health, by allowing us to put our worries into perspective. When we are in the presence of something vast and indescribable, we feel unimportant, and so do our worries. The experience of awe lifts us out of the common practical thoughts that control our daily lives and it allows us to have inner peace.
In areas where the population can easily get to beautiful green spaces, people report greater happiness and goodwill toward others. A study showed that older adults who took weekly 15-minute outdoor walks in nature for eight weeks reported increased positive emotions and less pain in their daily lives.
People in awe are more likely to show kindness and feel a greater sense of connection to others and the world. In moments of awe, we direct ourselves from the sense that we are solely (独自地) in control of our own future to the feeling we are part of a community. When we give less attention to our own goals and needs, we are more likely to be able to notice others and what they may be experiencing.
In sum, awe arises when we run into the wonders of life and leads to a disappearing of the self. Stepping outside of oneself is a valuable skill. It is possible to find awe-inspiring moments in all different places. Therefore, actively look for the experiences that feed your own hunger for awe,be it through admiring the trees in your neighborhood, or seeing the goodness in others. Take the time to slow down and open your mind to those things which you do not fully understand. You will be the better for it—and, as your feelings of awe spread through acts of kindness, so will the rest of us.
34. What can we learn from the passage?
A.Meeting strangers often brings feelings of excitement.
B.Even common daily events can lead to the feeling of awe.
C.Uncommon events are usually related to the beauty of nature.
D.Greater happiness can result from giving ourselves more attention.
35. The words “put our worries into perspective” in Paragraph 3 probably mean “ ”.
A.get used to our worries completely
B.deal with our worries as soon as possible
C.share our worries with family and close friends
D.understand the real importance of our worries
36. A person who has just experienced awe will probably .
A.give a helping hand to those in need
B.report feeling more self-important
C.separate himself from the rest of a group
D.be unwilling to work with others on a team
37. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To show us ways to understand what awe is.
B.To explain to us how awe can improve health.
C.To encourage us to be ready to experience awe.
D.To advise us to free ourselves from the fear of awe.

One possible version:
Dear Jenny,
Thank you for your email. I would like to tell you something about the after-class reading in our school.
In fact, most students in our school haven’t realized the importance of after-class reading. Some students prefer comic books to classic reading materials. Here are the reasons. Some students haven’t formed a good habit of reading. Others have so little interest in reading that they don’t spend time reading at all.
In the past few years, I have read many world classics. I have learned a lot from the books. In my opinion, books can open up a new world to us. So it is necessary to keep reading.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Lily
