A very important world problem is the growing population on the earth. The population of the world today is more than 7.5 billion. That is a great number and we know it quite well. The important thing is not how large the population of the world is now, but is the rate of the growth—it is about 1.63 percent every year.
Every second, about 4 babies are born in the world. Another baby! Another baby! Another baby! Another baby! You can not speak quickly enough to keep up with the birth rate. The population is growing larger and larger. In one day, people have to find food for about 350,000 mouths.
This great growing population has caused all kinds of problems. "Human population increased from millions in prehistoric times(史前时期) to over 7.5 billion today. Problems such as the loss of half of the world's forests and climate(气候) change are closely connected to the fact," says Robert Engelman of Population Action International.

The village wants to attract(吸引) people to move in. It plans to offer newcomers a lot of money. A person aged over 18 will be offered about 25,000 Swiss francs. A child will be offered about 10,000 Swiss francs. That's a total of about 70,000 Swiss francs for a family of four!
However, if you want to get the prize, you will have to follow some rules(规则). First, you must be under the age of 45. You also need to buy or build a house in Albinen. Last but not least, you have to live there for at least ten years.

How many children are there in your family? Have you heard of the three-child policy(政策)? Everyone knows the one-child policy. It was a population control(控制) method in our country. The Chinese government wanted to control the increasing population at that time. Many Chinese parents understood that and followed this policy for nearly 40 years.
However, as time goes by, some problems appear in our society. For example, the number of workers becomes fewer and China is now getting into an aging(老龄化) society. There will be more old people in the following years, but the society will be short of doctors and nurses to take care of them.
That's why the Chinese government began the three-child policy in late May in 2021. It allows each family to have three children. The government hopes it can help solve those social problems gradually(逐渐地). This policy will help offer enough workers in the future.
China will support parents who wish to have a third child, according to a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee(中共中央政治局会议). In order to encourage parents to have the third child, the government took many measures(措施). Lyu Yugang, an official of the Ministry of Education, said that after-school services would be further promoted(促进) as a support measure for China's three-child policy. By the end of May, a total of 102,000 primary and junior high schools in China had launched(发起) after-school services, benefiting 65 million students who could not be timely picked up when school hours ended.

[外文原味新素材|世界人口达80亿] It's not a small world after all. The United Nations(UN) has reported that the world's population has hit 8 billion. Here is a closer look at some of the world's population trends(趋势).
The number is expected to increase in the next few years, although at a slower speed(速度). It took the world's population 12 years to grow from 7 billion to 8 billion.
