七、书面表达
To be a better self
As a young student, I am always trying to become a better self.
Over the past three years of middle school, I have grown a lot in different ways. One big change is that I have become more hardworking. I used to delay my homework until the last minute, but now I can manage my time well and finish my tasks on time. This has not only improved my grades but also made me more responsible.
Besides, I have improved my confidence greatly. I used to be shy and afraid to speak up in public. However, I have learned to share my ideas more clearly and confidently since I joined clubs and worked on group projects. As a result, I make more friends and enjoy school life more.
Lastly, I have been more patient and understanding. Communicating with my classmates and teachers has taught me the importance of listening and caring about others' feelings. It is they who help me become a better team member and a more considerate person.
Tomorrow will be better, and I will be better, too.

Climate change has brought a serious warning of not having enough water and animal disappearing if we don't care about Mother Nature. Indeed, many efforts have been made by different organizations, encouraging us to save the earth. These have certainly raised awareness of the environmental problems, and laws have been made by governments to reduce pollution. However, I don't think people are doing enough to protect the environment.
Every year about 9 million people die from pollution-related causes and that is 3 times more
than deaths because of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. This number shows that many people pay
little attention to the environment in their daily lives. And there're not enough actions to prevent
the biodiversity (生物多样性)loss, climate change and pollution. What we need to do, is to first
relook the way we live.
For the past 2 years, 1 have been trying to protect the environment. Firstly, I am more careftul
with the use of electricity. I used to turn on all the lights when entering a room. Now I make it a point to open the curtains and let natural light in. If it gets dark, I turn on only one light and make
sure to turn it off when leaving the room. This has worked wonders and my parents are pleased too, as it has cut our electricity bill by 50 percent. ①
Besides energy protection, I’ve formed the habit of bringing my own reusable bags wherever
I go. This greatly reduces my need of plastic bags! Whenever I go shopping, I use my own reusable bags instead of plastic bags offered. It takes time and effort to wash up, but when I count
the number of plastic bags that I would save with this small behavior, it's well worth those extra
minutes of my time. ②
Finally, being a carnivore (食肉动物), I can never completely give up meat. Yet, after reading an article showing how a vegan(素食主义者)diet could cut global greenhouse emissions
by about 70 percent, I decided to do something-be vegetarian once a week. ③
At a UN meeting in December 2018, where over 200 countries met to find 9 practical ways to
reduce carbon, the most important reminder was that we are the last generation that can stop
climate change. ④
( ) 34. What does the underlined word "These" in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A.The importance of saying no to pollution.
B. The awareness of protecting the environment.
C. The efforts organizations have made to save the earth.
D.The laws governments have made to reduce pollution.
( ) 35. What are Paragraph 3, Paragraph 4 and Paragraph 5 mainly about?
A.How the writer is careful with energy.
B. How the writer protects the environment.
C. What the writer does to save electricity.
D.What the writer gets from his experience.
( ) 36. According to this passage, wlhich of the following is true?
A.Now all people around the world have done a lot to save the energy.
B. In 2018 more than 200 countries met to find ways to reduce pollution.
C. Every year AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria cause more deaths than pollution.
D. For many years the writer has been caring about the environment in his daily life.
( ) 37.In which place of this passage can the sentence "If that is true, I hope to be able to say that I have done my part to protect the one place we all call home." be put into?
A.① B.② C.③ D. ④

Technology has done our world wonders: from development in medicine to our daily lives. It has undoubtedly changed the way our society works, and how we communicate with one another and ourselves. However, by welcoming technology as part of life, are we losing our ability to create?
Technology provides a new chance for creativity to exist(存在). Through technology, ideas can be set free and come to life. We have the necessary tools for greater possibilities and new solutions. For example, businesses now have the chance to improve themselves more creatively through websites, film advertisements, social media or radio.
However, when we look more closely, it’s easy to notice some disadvantages. For example, many of us depend so much on automated calculations(计算器) rather than taking the time to work it out for ourselves. Another situation is that a lot of people are spending too much time on screens. As a result, they are reducing the chances to come up with their own creations.
Is there a way to find a balance between technology and human creativity? I think so. It is simply a matter of making sure that creativity is not deterred by technology. The first way is to reduce our use of electronic products by setting limits on when, where, and how long we use them, turning off the notice on your phone. Once you become used to these, you will feel surprised how little you think about your phone.
Another wonderful way is to take daily walks in nature. It can help you refresh and keep going. In the long run, a daily walk can not only influence our creativity and imagination but further our physical and mental health. We can also develop our creativity by doing yoga, keeping a diary, or reading.
The actions you choose to take will help change the relationship between creativity and technology for the better. With the right balance, technology can be a good method of improving creativity.
( ) 38.Why does the writer ask the underlined question in the beginning?
A. To draw the reader’s attention to the topic.
B. To show the writer likes technology.
C. To tell the reader the importance of technology.
D. To prove creativity is more important.
( ) 39.The underlined word “deterred” in Paragraph 4 probably means ________.
A. protected B. controlled C. attacked D. prevented
( ) 40.The structure of the passage may be _______.
A. B C D
( ) 41.The writer probably agrees that ________.
A. limiting the use of our phones can help us develop creativity
B. turning off the notice on the phone will make people worried
C. spending time on screens is the easiest way to keep people happy
D. a daily walk does more good to physical health than to mental health
D
Sean Elliot Martin and Pancho Timmons are friends on a mission (任务) to change the world, one small act of kindness at a time.
That’s the subject of their new book, Quick and Easy World Change, which they published as an e-book.
“The premise (前提) is that you don’t really need to be a superstar or have a large amount of money to make the world a better place,” said Timmons, the founder of two organizations—Pennsylvania Youth Initiative and Connect in Effect.
The project is inspired (启发) by another kindness-related book Martin worked on years ago. The latest one takes parts of the first book and updates it with more inspiring stories and lists of little things people can do daily to spread goodness wherever they go.
Just a little effort
For example, the book gives readers ideas for good things to do in 60 seconds, with only $1 or without even leaving the house. People are encouraged to get creative, too. “Make a game of giving—you can give yourself points for different little things,” Martin said.
It also addresses the concept of compound kindness—a domino (多米诺) effect of good deeds. “If you praise one person, they’re likely to praise two to five people,” Martin said.
Paying it forward
Both authors’ lives have been influenced by the kindness of others. Quick and Easy World Change is their way to pay those experiences and opinions forward.
For Timmons, a teacher’s compassion (同情) in college was a turning point for him.
“I did all the things I was supposed to do—worked hard, studied hard—and ended up failing the exams,” he recalled. “But the professor pulled me aside and said, ‘You’re an A student turning in C and D work because you’re clearly dyslexic (诵读困难的) and not getting the help you need.’”
“That 5-minute conversation was the difference between dropping out of college and getting two master’s degrees and now running two companies,” Timmons said. “I’ve spent my career trying to pay that forward.”
( ) 42. According to the passage, what can we infer about Timmons?
A. He was pretty good at studying when in college.
B. He was influenced by his college teacher’s words.
C. He ran two companies when he was still a student.
D. He enjoyed being praised by others in his school life.
( ) 43. How did Martin explain what “compound kindness” is?
A. By solving a difficult problem. B. By telling an interesting story.
C. By describing a possible situation. D. By making a detailed comparison.
( ) 44. What is the correct order of the following events?
①Timmons continued studying to get two master’s degrees.
②Martin and Timmons worked together to published an e-book.
③Martin worked on his first kindness-related book by himself.
④What teacher said made a difference to Timmons’ study experience.
A. ②③④① B. ④①③② C. ①③②④ D. ④③②①
( ) 45. What is the best title for the passage?
A. True Friendship Lasts Long B. Every Minute Matters
C. Good Deeds Make a Difference D. Good Education Works

请认真阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
Several years ago I was diagnosed with cancer. It was the most difficult time I have ever faced. I think it was my sense of humor that allowed me to hold onto my sanity (心智健全). Like many people who have gone through chemotherapy (化疗), I lost all of my hair, being bald as a golf ball. I always had enjoyed wearing hats, so I ordered several special hats with the hair already attached. It was easy and I never had to worry about how my hair looked.
I have always been a big golf fan. At one point during my cancer treatments, my husband John and I decided to get away from the cold Minnesota winter and took a trip to Scottsdale, Arizona. There was a Senior PGA Tour event called The Tradition being played, and that seemed like just the ticket to lift my spirits.
The first day of the tournament (锦标赛) brought out a huge crowd. It was a beautiful day, and I was in heaven (天堂). I was standing and watching my three favorite golfers in the world approach the tee box (开球区): Jack Nicklaus, Raymond Floyd and Tom Weiskopf.
Just as they arrived at the tee, the unimaginable happened. A huge gust of wind came up from out of nowhere and blew my hat and hair right off my head and into the middle of the fairway (高尔夫球场的平坦球道)! Thousands of spectators lining the fairway fell into an awkward silence, all eyes on me. Even my golf idols (偶像) were watching me, as my hair was in their flight path. I was awkward (尴尬的,困窘的)! Embarrassed as I was, I knew I couldn’t just stand there. Someone had to do something to get things moving again.
So I took a deep breath and out into the middle of the fairway. I grabbed my hat and hair, nestled (安放) them back on my head as best I could. Then I turned to the golfers and loudly announced, “Gentlemen, the wind is blowing from left to right.”
They said the laughter could be heard all the way to the nineteenth hole.
