Tori is a girl who doesn’t really care about anything. Sometimes, she does things that might be annoying and make her situation worse by saying things that don’t really matter. I personally think it’s good when characters do that though. They’re not always perfect because everyone does stupid things.  While Tori’s best friend, Becky, is very confident with herself. She has loads of social skills and enjoys herself. She’s the complete opposite of Tori. And a unique boy, Michael Holden, steps into Tori’s life, slowly changing her. When a mysterious blog called Solitaire starts to do curious and dangerous things to her school, Tori and Michael join forces to try and investigate who is doing it. The thing I completely love about the book is that it is so real. I found it extremely relatable. Unlike so many other books, nothing that happens in this story couldn’t happen in real life. There is no fake (虚假的) romance, nothing fairy tale about it. I think Alice Oseman, the author of the book, has really shown the feelings and realities of teenagers and their journey through school. They can relate to people like Tori or Becky. To conclude, I can’t say enough about what an amazing read this book is. I guarantee (保证) 99 percent that you will not put it down. It relates to life very well, and the story is attractive and exciting. The storyline is very well planned out, and I loved the smaller plots between every character. I just thought the book was amazing. I think you’ll fall in love with the exciting, sensitive and unusual characters and the relatable storyline. Well done, Alice Oseman.   11. What is Tori like? A. She is popular with everyone. B. She is careless in life. C. She is in her own world. D. She is confident in herself. 12. What is true about the book Solitaire? A. It is adapted from real-life stories. B. It is different from real life. C. It is relatable to teenagers. D. It is full of romantic stories. 13. What does the writer think about the book Solitaire? A. It might be too wild. B. It is worth reading. C. It is suitable for all ages. D. Its plots are simple but well-planned. B Scientists have discovered the world’s largest known field of seagrass with the aid of some unusual helpers: tiger sharks. Seagrass usually grows in shallow waters. It grows in thick fields, known as meadows (草地). These seagrass meadows help clean the ocean’s water, and provide shelter for lots of sea life. They are also a big help in the fight against climate change. That’s because they store huge amounts of carbon dioxide (二氧化碳). This harmful pollution is making global warming worse. Damaging these seagrass meadows will only further release (释放) this pollution back into the atmosphere. Though they’re very important, scientists don’t have a good idea of the size and number of the world’s seagrass meadows. Trying to find these meadows from above the sea waters can be quite difficult. The world’s oceans are so large in size that it’s simply not possible to make a deep study of them by diving. So a team of scientists decided to have tiger sharks help with the research. These animals were chosen as research helpers because they spend a lot of their time in and around seagrass meadows. Researchers attached cameras to the fins (鳍) of seven tiger sharks. The sharks then carried the cameras and travelled for miles over the sea floor. The cameras were designed to fall off after a few hours and then float back up to the surface. Tracking signals helped the scientists find the floating cameras and to collect the videos the sharks had taken. The scientists learned that the waters around the Bahamas are home to the largest seagrass meadow ever discovered, which could be as large as 92,000 square kilometres. The discovery means that the world has about 40 per cent more seagrass meadows than scientists had thought. The project demonstrates (示范) a powerful new way to explore the ocean. In other words, underwater animals can help us learn more about life under the sea. Animals like tiger sharks are going to take us to new places that we didn’t even know. 14. How many advantages of seagrass meadows are mentioned in the second paragraph? A. Two. B. Three. C. Five. D. Six. 15. What is the third paragraph mainly about? A. The importance of seagrass to the world. B. The situation that scientists know about seagrass. C. The possibility that scientists study the meadows further. D. The reason why scientists need tiger sharks to help with the research. 16. Which best shows the structure of the whole passage? A.①/②③④⑤/⑥ B.①②③④⑤/⑥ C.①/②③④⑤⑥ D.①②③/④/⑤⑥ 17. What’s the best title of the article? A. The Seagrass Meadows of the Ocean B. Research Helpers of the Seagrass C. The New Way of Protecting the Ocean D. The Man’s New Helpers of the Ocean   C 阅读短文C,根据短文内容,从短文后面的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有一项是多余项。 Bringing a pet into a family with small children around is not a decision to make easily. When you smile, you show them off to look your best. Sept 20 is National Teeth Care Day in China. It’s the perfect time for us to learn some tips on how to protect our teeth. First of all, we need to pick a good toothbrush. Softness is the key. Brushes with hard bristles (刷毛) can hurt your teeth and gums (牙龈). Choose one with soft bristles and rounded ends. Also, a brush with a small head can easily reach all your teeth, since they can squeeze into (挤进) the small spaces of your mouth. Next, we need to learn the correct way to brush our teeth. The American Dental Association (美国牙医协会) and dentists around the world suggest the Bass brushing technique (贝氏刷牙法). Charles C Bass (1875-1975), an American medical doctor, invented this method. When Dr Bass was young, he had serious gum disease and was told to get all his teeth pulled out. He didn’t. Instead, he invented the Bass method to save his teeth. The method suggests brushing your teeth along the gum line at a 45-degree angle (角度) with very small back-and-forth vibrating motions (颤动). Bad bacteria (细菌) usually hang out where the gums and teeth meet. We can effectively clean the area and prevent tooth decay (蛀牙) and gum disease with this method. After a good brush, you need to floss (用牙线清理) your teeth for a deeper clean. Put dental floss into the space between two teeth and use a careful back-and-forth motion. It helps get food out of the spaces. But don’t move the floss too hard, or it may hurt your gums. 47.
