How is your memory? If we can't remember how to do something, we can't survive. If you think about it, there is so much we have to remember —from where we left our car keys to how we walk. Maybe it's not surprising that sometimes we forget things.
Scientists believe there are two levels of memory. One is short-term memory, which stays in your brain for only 15-30 seconds, for example, when you hear a song but can't remember the words afterwards. The other level is long-term memory, which can be stored for days, months or even years.
There are many uses for memory. Motor-skill memory helps you remember how to ride a bike or other activities, which can be strong can be short or long term. Emotional memory makes you think of how you felt about something and can be strong and powerful. They are long term.
Memories can tell you the story of yourself. Information, such as which school you go to and who your friends are, is stored inside your brain, ready for when you need it. It's much easier to remember all those facts, or formulas or whatever it is you're learning if you have a good memory. Memories can also help you manage feelings. Heidi, 12, told The Week Junior, "If I miss seeing my granny and grandad, I remember staying with them in Devon. It makes me feel happy. "
Our memory is amazing, but why do we still forget things? It's possible we don't always store information in our memory effectively. When we do store information, we often make connections with other things, which helps us recall it later. If you don't have these connections, then it can be easier to forget. It is also possible that memories decay over time. As they have not been revisited, their biological trace 'becomes weak.
However, forgetting is not always a bad thing! It would waste cognitive resources if we remembered every detail of the world around us. That's something worth remembering.

When difficult people express themselves orally, they usually want at least two things: they are heard and they are understood. As a good communicator should be a good listener, five steps are towards good listening.
The first step is cooperating(合作). How does a difficult person know that you're listening and understanding? In fact, it's through the way you look and sound while he is talking. You may help him to fully express his thoughts and feelings. You do this by nodding your head in agreement making certain sounds of understanding.
When the person begins to repeat what's been said, it's signal(信号) of Step two: turning back. It means that you repeat back some words he is using. sending a clear signal that you're listening carefully and that you think what he is saying is important.
Having heard what he has to say, the next step is clarifying. At this point, you start to gather information about what is being communicated. Ask some open-ended questions, which will allow you to find out what intention he is hoping to satisfy.
The fourth step is to summarize(概括) what you've heard. This allows you to make sure that both you and the difficult person are on the same page. When you do this, two things happen. First, if you've missed something, he can fill in the details. Second, if you've shown that you're making an effort to understand completely. This makes it more possible to gain cooperation from him.
Having listened carefully, you've now arrived at the point of confirming with the person that he feels satisfied that his thoughts have been fully voiced. Ask if he feels understood.
When enough sincere listening, questioning, and remembering are brought together, understanding is usually achieved and a difficult person becomes less difficult and more cooperative.

Do you know the reason why we feel tired in the middle of a class? Maybe you would say it is because the teacher’s class is boring. However, the real reason is probably that we don’t have enough sleep. Perhaps this is something you have not paid enough attention to or not yet noticed. Here are what sleep researchers have found about how to sleep.
Why do we need sleep? Sleep helps our body heal, grow, and stay healthy. It also gives us energy, so we can be active all day. Doctors and health scientists say: When you close your eyes and need a rest, sleep is just the very best! This is more than advice.
Enough sleep is important to us how much sleep do we need? It is known that all of us naturally need no less than eight hours of sleep per night. When we sleep below six hours per 24, we’re at an increased risk of health problems. Some of us think we can make up any of those hours lost during the week on the weekends. Sadly, there is no storage (储存) system for sleep in the brain.
New-born babies sleep most of the time. They can sleep 20-22 hours a day. Children need 10-12 hours of sleep a day. Teenagers need 8-10 hours of sleep a day because they need lots of energy to grow into their adult bodies. Grown-ups usually need 6-8 hours of sleep to keep active.
A new research suggests a kind of strong connection between purpose in life and sleep. People who have a greater sense of purpose usually have better physical and mental health, which in turn explains their higher-quality sleep. Perhaps developing a sense of purpose in life could be as useful at improving sleep as the healthy habits above.
Almost everyone has their dreams while they sleep, but not all of them can tell their dreams clearly when they wake up. Some people talk in their dreams. More surprisingly, some may even get up in their dreams and walk around. This is called “sleepwalking”. Are you a sleepwalker? Or, is there a sleepwalker around you?
