Many mountain attractions in China have set up elevators( 电 梯 )so that tourists can enjoy “painless climbing”, meaning they can get to the top without difficulties.
What's your opinion on this? Here are some ideas from three students.
Wang Hongjie, 17, from Sichuan: For children and old people, the climbing itself is tiring, so tourists may miss some beautiful views and the happy time that they can share with their family. Personally, if my family members need to use the elevator, I would love to meet them on the top of the mountain. It's also helpful to disabled people who have probably never been to the top of a mountain before.
Wu Zijing, 15, from Fujian: “Painless climbing” does not make people feel closer-to nature. The elevator is, after all, only a product of the modern society. Indeed, it's easy to use it. However, using an elevator cuts off the connection between people and the natural views around them. When we go to see the mountains, most people go there to enjoy the natural beauty. Elevators stop people from enjoying the views and the experience as a whole.
Chen Haoyu, 16, from Guangdong: “Climbing” is described by Oxford English Dictionary as moving somewhere, especially with difficulty or effort, using both hands and feet. According to this, I think the essence of mountain climbing is to climb by yourself. Not only is climbing healthy for us to train our bodies, but it allows us to see beautiful views of nature. This kind of experience will impress us during our journey. Compared with traditional climbing, "painless climbing"can not bring people the sense of achievement after they reach the top of the mountain. It loses the natural meaning and the fun of mountain climbing.
29. According to Wu Zijing, “painless climbing” ___________________.

31. Who supports the idea of “painless climbing”?
A. The writer. B. Wu Zijing. C. Chen Haoyu. D. Wang Hongjie.

On February 4, Wang Yujia, 37, became the first Chinese musician to win the Grammy Award for the best classical instrumental solo(独奏奖)category.
Wang's special position in the classical music world is marked by her excellent skills. In January 2023, Wang presented a three and a half hours' show in New York,
which was described by the New York Times as a "once-in-a-lifetime "musical event Among the four piano concertos (协奏曲)Wang played, Piano Concerto No. 3, known as one of “the hardest concertos”, challenges musicians with all kinds of skills. Cyril Smith from Britain once said that it required the strength of shoveling (铲)10 tons of coal to play the concerto. Moreover, the piece requires the musician to show a great number of feelings and themes including sadness, heroism and happiness.
Although there were all the great challenges, Wang didn't find it a problem to complete the music. “There are big physical challenges on the piano, but it is even harder to use special skills to finish the work. That's what is really fun, "Wang told China Daily.

“It is especially beautiful. No matter who you are or what your age is, seeing something so fantastic is truly attractive, "said Jin Huilin, who was attracted by the rich patterns(花纹)when he saw Yuhua stones for the first time.
Nanjing Yuhua stone is a type of water-worn stone mainly found in areas like Nanjing and Yizheng in Jiangsu Province. It is known for its smooth texture (质地), bright colours and rich patterns.
Bccause Yuhua stones are often got from mines( 矿 山 ), dry Yuhua stones look plain and grey, hiding their true quality. Jin and his friends visited Luhe mining sites in Nanjing, wearing rubber shoes to collect these stones on rainy days. Rain made the stones' detailed patterns clearer. “It's better to carry a bottle of water on dry days to pour on the surface of the stones. Sometimes you can find something surprising, ” Jin said.
According to Jin, appreciating( 欣赏) stones starts with their outer qualities like texture, colour, and patterns. ① However, “real appreciation of the stones requires cultural knowledge; otherwise, they might seem like just pieces of colour, " said Jin. With cultural knowledge and imagination, people could see different patterns, such as trees, mountains, or flowers. “ ② The stones a person chooses as their favourites can show their cultural awareness, "Jin added.
Watching patterns of stones in the water is not the only way to appreciate stones. Jin also mentioned other ways. ③ He gave some examples. “Some people enjoy holding stones in their hands, appreciating their special textures, or using strong light to discover hidden patterns that are even more beautiful. Others choose to put the stones on the desk, inviting guests to appreciate the stones from different positions, "said Jin. ④
For Jin, stone watching brings joy and something fresh to his life. “Some people like to have lively pets while I prefer stones for their lasting nature, ”Jin added.

During the Spring and Autumn period of the ancient China, there was a musician named Yu Boya. He was skilled in playing the guqin. However, he always felt that he didn't have the highest level, so he decided to take a boat trip to Penglai Island in the East China Sea. There, Yu Boya saw the surging waves(汹涌的波涛)hitting the rocks, and the seabirds flying up and down and singing happily and loudly. At that moment, a creative idea went through his mind. He managed to use the guqin to bring the beauty of nature and the touching sounds of the music together. Unluckily, no one could understand and appreciate (欣赏) what the music was about.
He felt very lonely with a great pity as a result.
One day, Yu Boya saw an old woodcutter listening to his music carefully on the seaside and then asked him to get in his boat. He played the music about the high mountain. The woodcutter described a picture of Mountain Tai in his mind. When Yu Boya played another piece of music to show the surging waves, the woodcutter seemed to watch a wild and broad sea without boundaries. Yu Boya screamed excitedly, "My dear friend, Zhong Ziqi, you are the only confidant ( 知 己 )that understands me and my works!" A few years later, Zhong Ziqi passed away. Yu Boya cut off all the strings (琴弦) and stopped playing the guqin after he heard the news.
There are too few close friends as Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi did in the world. Yu Rang, a famous writer in the Warring States period, once said, "A true man is ready to die for those who know the value of him. "Su Shi, another famous writer in the Song dynasty, found no one could understand him in his difficult times, describing himself as a lonely wild bird on a wasted sand island. It means he preferred to live alone if he couldn't find any confidant. Being a confidant has nothing to do with age, distance as well as wealth. He is the one who is always willing to share your joy and sadness. In some ways, a confidant can understand your every act and read your hidden meanings. Whether old or young, a confidant is hard to find. Everyone will never feel sorry for himself if he has a confidant in his life!

Bimla knew that she wanted to go to university when she got her results. But she was worried that she would not be accepted by the other students once she got there.
Although she was always told at her school that she would get good grades(成绩)at university, she believed that other students would be better than her in many ways. “I know I got good grades at school, but I thought they wouldn’t be enough,” she said. Some of her friends thought she shouldn’t even think about going to university because of her poor family, but she didn’t agree with that and said, “I think university should be for everyone, no matter (无论)where they come from.”
Growing up in a large family, she always understood that it wasn’t easy for her parents to feed the family. “When I told my parents I wanted to go to university, they weren’t very happy at first,” she remembered. “But they accepted the idea when they were told about the advantages of having a university graduate in the family.”
Money was short at home, so Bimla worked after school and saved nearly on everything. She wanted to work in medicine after graduation to make more money.
She also looked around and found a university near her village, which meant she could stay at home and study at the same time.
