(2024·湖北省宜荆荆恩四地高三联考)I was really nervous about English class this year because I was an eleventh grader taking a twelfth grade class. I knew that I wouldn't know anyone in the class, and that scared me a little. But since I didn't know anyone, I had the chance to do something I love almost as much as socializingpeople watching.
One of the most interesting girls in the class sat directly behind me. She was always laughing and talking, and she just seemed so happy.

She was friendly, too—she was one of the very few people in the class who made any attempt to acknowledge me. She was one of those people you just liked, even if you didn't really know her.
At the end of the year, we were assigned a big project. It was a very openended project, where the instructions were basically to read something, then read or watch something else that related to it, and then come up with a class presentation based on what you learned. The presentations were spread out over the last month of school, and because everyone had chosen such different topics and different ways to present those topics, we had some of the most interesting and varied presentations I've ever watched.

The girl behind me presented on one of the last days. She got up in front of the class, and told everyone how she had read about eating disorders, because she herself had struggled with one. Since it would have been too difficult for her to talk to us about it directly, she and a friend had made a movie, where they interviewed each other about their eating disorders, how they had felt while they were struggling with them, and how they had overcome them.

(2023·黑龙江省实验中学高三一模)Often, when he came to visit, my grandfather would bring me a present. These were never the sorts of things that other people brought, such as dolls, books or toys. My dolls and toys have been gone for more than half a century, but many of my grandfather's gifts are still with me.

Once he brought me a little plastic cup. I looked inside, expecting to see something special. But there was only some loose soil in it, which made me disappointed. He smiled at me affectionately. Turning around, he picked up a little teapot from my dolls' tea set and took me to the kitchen where he filled the little cup with water. Back in the living room, he put it on the windowsill (窗台) and handed me the teapot. “If you promise to put some water in the cup every day, something may happen.” he told me.
At that time, I was only five years old. This whole thing made no sense to me at all. I looked at him doubtfully and asked, “Do I have to water it every day? What will happen?” He nodded to me with encouragement, “Yes, every day, dear.”

And so I promised. At first, curious to see what would happen, I did not mind doing this. But as the days went by and nothing changed, it got harder and harder to remember to put water in the cup. After a week, I asked my grandfather if it was time to stop yet. Shaking his head, “no,” he said, “every day.” The second week was even harder, and I became regretful of my promise to put water in the cup. When my grandfather came again, I tried to give it back to him, but he refused to take it, saying simply the same words, “Every day.” By the third week, I began to forget to put water in the cup during the day. Often, I would remember only after I had been put to bed and would have to get out of bed and water it in the dark. But I did not miss a single day.

By the end of the presentation, almost everyone was in tears. We gave her a big applause. Several classmates put up their hands to comment on how brave she was to stand up in front of thirty people and talk about something so personal, and how strong she was to have overcome the disorder. The most shocking thing about the whole presentation was how surprising it was. We never thought that she would have had a problem like that. She always seemed so happy and confident. We were really inspired by her courage.
When she returned to her seat, I could tell she was really relieved and happy. “Well done! You are my hero!” I gave her a thumbsup signal and praised her. “Thanks! Things are always changing for the better so long as we believe in ourselves and take some action.” She replied with a broad smile on her face. I couldn't agree with her more. Her story also reminds me how difficult it is to judge people. You never know just by looking, or even from observing them, what type of person someone is.
One morning, something amazing happened.
This was perhaps my first lesson in the power of perseverance.
[精彩范文]
One morning, something amazing happened. At that time, I went to water the plant as usual. To my surprise, a small bud appeared in the plastic cup. Under the supervision of my grandfather, I spent three weeks watering the soil, not caring about the result, just watering it, and it did give wonders to me! I told my grandfather with excitement. He gave me praise kindly and said, “Nothing in the world is difficult if you are willing to put your heart into it. Keep trying.”

This was perhaps my first lesson in the power of perseverance. I couldn't help feeling that no matter how big a problem I encountered in my study, I could devote myself to solving it if I kept at it. Thank my grandfather for giving me such a precious plant. It is grandfather that let me understand that life on the road is easier as long as you don't give up. It is possible to create a miracle! Therefore, whether it is to treat their own life, or treat their own work, the most important thing is to stick to it and act actively. There may be unexpected good harvest!
