05 单元限时小卷 1 [河南九师联盟2024联考] After losing an important deal in India, a business negotiator learnt that her counterpart (职位相当的人) felt as if she had been rushing through the talks. The business negotiator thought she was being efficient in their time. Their cultures have different views on how to conduct negotiations, and in this case, the barrier prevented a successful outcome. Research shows that deal-making across cultures tends to lead to worse outcomes as compared with negotiations conducted within the same culture. As we know, cultures are characterised by different behaviours, communication styles and norms (准则). Consequently, when negotiating across cultures, we bring different views to the bargaining table, which in turn may result in potential misunderstandings that can lead to lower likelihood of discovering value-creating solutions. Cultural conflict in negotiations is linked with the fact that we, at most times, interpret others’ behaviours, values, and beliefs through the lens (透镜) of our own culture. To overcome this, it is important to research the customs and behaviours of different cultures as well as understand why people follow these customs and exhibit these behaviours in the first place. 2 Just as important, not only do countries have unique cultures, but teams and organisations do too. Before partaking in any negotiation, take the time to study the context and the person on the other side of the bargaining table, including the various cultures to which he belongs, whether his culture, the culture of engineering, or his particular company’s corporate culture. The more you know about the client, the better you’ll do in any negotiation. Therefore, we see the negotiator has learnt her Indian counterpart would have appreciated a slower pace with more opportunities for relationship building. She seems to have run into the issue: Using time efficiently in the course of negotiations is generally valued in the United States, but in India, there’s often a greater focus on building relationships early in the process. By doing research on the clients’ cultures, they can adjust their negotiation method and give themselves a better chance of creating a valuable negotiation experience for both themselves and their counterparts. 1.What resulted in the businesswoman’s failure in her negotiation in India?( ) D A.Her slow work style. However, the hope of developing new friendships—or strengthening existing ones—can be discouraging. It’s frightening to think about friendship in adulthood, and the sense of defeat keeps us from even trying, Poswolsky said. His suggestion? 2. . Text a friend that you haven’t talked to for a long time, commit to meeting one new person a month, host a dinner party, or join a class. If you do just one thing, make a list of five people in your life that you care about, and give one of them a phone call. The most remarkable friendships often begin with the tiniest moments of connections. Remember that you likely won’t form a strong connection overnight. Research shows that it takes 90 hours of time together for us to consider someone a friend and more than 200 hours to consider them a close friend that you have an emotional connection with. Poswolsky suggested that in our busy world, we should put our friendship on the calendar. 3. . 5 8 But studies also show that it isn’t just about having relationships. 4. . Poswolsky considers that there might not be just one definition of a good friendship, but most strong relationships share some similar qualities. They tend to prioritise laughter, joy, excitement, courage, weakness and a lack of judgement. 5. . They become better versions of themselves, especially when their friend is struggling or going through something hard. You know someone is a true friend when they have your back when you’re sick, when you lose your job, when you make a mistake, when you’re going through a break-up, when you’re stressed, when you’re sad. A.Start small. B.The quality also matters. C.Listen and ask real questions. D.Many people may feel lonely and want closer connections. E.And good friendships are often two people helping each other. F.In other words, we should commit to holding activities regularly. G.But having relationships between the good and the bad can often be unhelpful. 故选A项。 刷7选5 12 [山西太原五中2024高二月考] For four long years, Owen Connors had to spend his Saturday afternoons playing rugby (橄榄球) at school. His family had to move to Newcastle in the northeast of England. Tom had a lot of difficulties in the new environment. He didn’t like the food in England. Nobody could forecast the weather in Newcastle. He had to start learning the second foreign language in his new school. Pocket money was not enough as usual. Almost every subject was a challenge for him. Most importantly, he had no friends. It seemed nobody knew him and he knew nobody in the school. On an early summer evening, when Tom was going home alone from school as usual, a man called him from behind. Tom turned around and saw Andy, his PE teacher, standing in front of him. “You know, the school will have a swimming competition next month. There will be all kinds of races. Will you participate?” Andy asked. 26 Tom took a look at Andy with doubt and answered, “You sure? Me? No, I won’t. I can swim, but I’m slower than a snail.” Andy smiled and then said, “Yes. So join the freestyle race! 200-metre freestyle is the game suitable for you.” Tom was speechless at that moment. He had never known someone in the school was observing him and caring about him. “I don’t think I can win anything.” Tom was still a little puzzled. “But you may get more recognition and consequently you can make some friends.
