教材分析
Unit 3 presents various celebrations through different forms of discourse. The unit is intended to guide students to understand celebrations of traditional Chinese and foreign festivals, compare the similarities and differences between Chinese and foreign traditional festivals, and explore the value and significance of Chinese and foreign traditional festivals on cultural identity and heritage. After learning this unit, students will apply what they have learned to describing special occasions, traditional Chinese festivals and culture, and strengthen their cultural confidence and national pride. The whole unit presents the topic from different angles by listening, speaking, reading, writing and viewing.

学情分析
Students roughly know content of celebrations but cultural and emotional connotations of festivals remain to be explored. Besides, they have known basic rules for attending special occasions in the west and they are eager to know ways of behaviors and dealing with others from different cultures.
教学目标
1.Obtain and fill in celebration activities of Spring Festival and Christmas.
2.Analyse the structure of a celebration event.
3.Master the important words and their derivatives in this unit.
4.Classify the important words into three types---action, emotion, and setting, and apply them to a mini-continuation writing.
5.Review the important sentence patterns in this unit and put them into a mini-practical writing.
教学重难点
1.Identify the meaning of Spring Festival to Chinese people and analyse its emotional and cultural connotations.
2.Evaluate and explore emotional connotation of Christmas: family ties.
3.Have a good command of the important words and their derivatives in this unit.
4.Appreciate and explore the use of vocabulary and sentence patterns in the mini-continuation writing and mini-practical writing.
