(2023·湖南十校第二次联考)Psychological science is full of interesting topics, many of which tell a coherent picture of human nature, but some of which create seemingly contradictory stories. A case in point is the misunderstood overlap (交叠) between strengthbased science and the research on narcissism (自恋).
There is now convincing evidence to show that narcissism is on the rise, especially in our youth. Some researchers say that about 25% of young people showing symptoms of narcissism.
We are correct to be concerned about this phenomenon, but our fear that all kids are potential narcissists has caused an unhelpful reaction against approaches that seek to make our children and teens feel good about themselves.
In my own research on strengthbased parenting, it is common for people to wrongly think this approach to be the cause of narcissism. Their argument seems to be that a child who knows their strengths will automatically view themselves as better than everyone else. It is argued that the selfassurance that comes with identifying and using their positive qualities will make a child selfish and uncaring.
Why does this occur? It's partly because more is known about narcissism than strengths. While strengths psychology has largely stayed within the limit of academic journals, research on narcissism has made its way into the mass media and our daily life. The New York Times noted that narcissism is a favored topic and that people everywhere are diagnosing others with it.
The fear that a strengthbased approach will cause narcissism also occurs because of our binary (非此即彼的) thinking. We mistakenly believe that one cannot be both confident and humble. Without confidence in their strengths, Gandhi and Mother Teresa couldn't have achieved so much, and yet modesty and selflessness are their qualities.
When we assume that strengthfocus is the same as selffocus, we fail to make the idea clear that people who know their strengths are, actually, more likely to be prosocial and ready to help others.
It's easy to conclude that every young person is at risk of becoming a narcissist but I'd like to stand up for the thousands of young kids I have worked with who are caring, thoughtful and humble—even when they use their strengths.

(2024·邵阳高三检测)According to a report by the World Health Organization, there are currently 285 million people in the world who are visually disadvantaged. Among those 39 million people are blind whereas 246 million people are living with low vision of some kind. Accessibility options can be improved with a simple walking stick, but life is still full of obstacles (障碍) for those people.
To help this visuallychallenged population, Chandigarh University's student Lovelesh Dutt has developed a smart stick which helps them with their daytoday activities, ensuring that their visual problem doesn't prevent them from living a life of joy.
Based on artificial intelligence, the smart stick has a number of features. For example, if any kind of object or animal or even human comes in the way of the user, then the stick will generate a warning sound, besides producing vibrations (震动), making the user aware of the object coming in front of them.
Dutt explains that the AIbased smart stick is connected to the GPS system, which provides information about the location of the user to their family. Besides, the stick draws its power from the sun with the help of a solar panel mounted on it, thus removing the problem of charging it.
“The stick has an inbuilt emergency SOS network. In case of any emergency, the user can press the button on the stick, which will automatically send an SOS message to the police and family members along with the location of the user. Also, if anyone tries to harm the user, the inbuilt device at the bottom of the stick will give a shock of 400kv to the offender, allowing the blind person to protect themselves,” he says.
There is more to Dutt than just the smart stick. With exceptional performance in the field of research and innovation, Dutt is providing free technology and research education to poor children. Furthermore, his work towards women's safety and selfreliance is leading the charge for a safer society for women.

故填which。
故填has attracted。
根据“Around 50,000 high definition pictures of the Xipanjiakou site of the Great Wall are used”可知,此处是指为用户提供了非凡的体验,所以应用形容词remarkable表示“非凡的”作定语。故填remarkable。
故填a。
a combination of意为“……的组合”,为固定搭配,所以此处应用介词of。故填of。
主语“The Great Wall”为第三人称单数。故填was listed。
故填its。

A picture book stood quietly on the shelf of a children's bookstore, waiting for young readers to read it.
One day, a little girl came. She sat down on the ground and read the picture book with interest. Then she put it back on the shelf, took out her pocket and said to the book, “I love you so much, but I can't afford you. My father is working out of the town, and my mother is ill now. You see, my pocket is empty. I have no money.”
The next day, the little girl came again. She read the picture book again, and wrote a note, reading: “I want to read you once more, but I can't come tomorrow because I will go to the hospital to take care of my mother. Can you fly over to my house like a bird? The note has my home address on it.” She put the note into the book, and left the bookstore.
How the picture book wanted to fly into the arms of the little girl! Books needed readers who liked them most, just like the little girl needed her mother. But it was not a bird. It could not fly, and its hardcover could not flap like wings. The picture book could do nothing but huddle (蜷缩) in the middle of the books, waiting for the girl to come again.
One day, there was a big boy who loved reading. He put all the books he liked into his shopping basket, including the picture book. His mother paid the bill for all the books without saying anything.
The big boy had his own bookshelf in his room, with all kinds of books ranked neatly on it. He began to read one book after another that he had bought. When he got to the picture book, he found the note. He was so surprised that he gave it to his mother. His mother read it and was deeply touched, knowing that there was a little girl who loved the picture book but could not afford it. They resolved to deliver the picture book to the address that the little girl had written on the note.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
The next day, the deliveryman returned the picture book, saying the girl could not be reached.

One possible version:
The next day, the deliveryman returned the picture book, saying the girl could not be reached. The boy felt that what they had done was wrong and that the picture book should fly to the little girl by itself. So he wrote a note as well, reading “I'm sorry to have kept you waiting. It took me some days to practise flying so that I could fly to your house.” The boy put it in the book and took them to the little girl's house. But there was no one at home. Her neighbor told him that the girl's mother was in hospital and that she had to stay with her. To make sure the book could fly onto the girl's hands, he resolved to pay a visit to her house after school every day.
Until one day, the big boy heard a woman and a girl talking in the house. He knocked at the door and heard someone answer it. He gently laid the picture book at the door, and quickly hid himself behind the house. The girl came out and looked around, only to find the book. She picked it up, read the note, and screamed excitedly, “Mom, my favorite picture book does fly over to me.” Her mother was amazed, and then said to her with a smile, “Your dream is to have your favorite book fly home. You see, it has come true. Remember, always have a dream, never despair!”
