Pickleball is a mix of tennis, badminton and table tennis. A pickleball court is smaller than a tennis court,it is easier on the knees and hips. In 1965, pickleball was invented in the U.S. by three fathers-Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell and Barney McCallum-to enrich their kids' summertime. Pritchard had an old badminton court, but the players couldn't find a full set of rackets. As a result, the children played with table tennis bats and a plastic ball. With decades of development, the game has gone popular in many countries. Why do more people like playing pickleball? “It can be both accessible(可使用的)and competitive,”says Robert Leonard, a teacher at Denver's Gates Tennis Centre.“My 70-year-old dad can play as much as he wants and the professional players can play as hard as they want.”Pickleball is growing fast. From 2019 to 2020 alone, pickleball participation grew at a rate of 21.3 per cent. It has more than 4.2 million players these days in the U.S. Pickleball is also becoming a spectator sport. Its first professional tournament(联赛)in the U.S., the PPA Tour, was formed in 2018. The event provides hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizes.
