15 Unit 3 The art of painting Ⅰ.阅读A 主题语境:人与社会 体裁:说明文 话题:艺术激发潜力和创造力 (2024·南京考前训练)The arts are an expression or application of human creativity and imagination. They help with young people's development. Therefore, it's important that all young people be exposed to the arts. They allow them to realize their potential through different forms of the arts at a young age and encourage selfexpression and creativity. Often, youths don't realize their potential due to the lack of exposure. If they aren't exposed to the arts, they wouldn't even know they may have the talent or potential. If it's discovered at an early age, they can gradually use their potential through higher education in the arts. Some might even choose to pursue it as a hobby or an occupation in the long run.I started learning to play the piano at five and now, at 15, I have realized my interest and passion in piano which would have been unknown without exposure to it. Besides, youths can express themselves through exposure to the arts.Facing stress from school or their personal lives, they can find a new channel through artistic expressions such as dance or painting. Some who find it hard to express themselves might choose to bottle it up, leading to many psychological problems such as depression. The arts also boost creativity. They let youths enhance their problemsolving skills by thinking out of the box.Researchers have found people tend to do something creative after engaging in the arts. However, some critics may argue the arts will distract youths from studies. This has proven incorrect.A study in 2010 found that greater exposure to the arts led to higher graduation rates and test scores. In conclusion, the exposure of the arts to youths is important as it helps them recognize their capability in the arts and express their feelings and imagination. We can do so by being exposed to the arts and being more willing to learn something new. This gives us endless opportunities to acquire new skills and become a better version of ourselves. 1.What can we learn from Paragraph 1? A.Youths can't get access to the arts without imagination. B.Young people get exposed to music to become creative. C.The exposure to the arts makes for youths' development. D.Human creativity is the consequence of learning the arts. 2.The author mentions his experience of learning to play the piano to ________ . A.show his talent and potential in the arts B.indicate the choice he made was correct C.prove the benefits of early exposure to the arts D.encourage readers to learn musical instruments early 3.What does the underlined phrase in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A.Refusing to admit one's own shortcomings. B.Drinking up a bottle of wine to erase anxiety. C.Locking oneself up in a room for a long time. D.Avoiding sharing one's emotions with anyone. 4.What does the last paragraph mainly say about youths' exposure to the arts? A.Its appeal to the young. B.Its significance for youths. C.Chances of learning the arts. D.Wide recognition of its function. 根据第一段“The arts are an expression or application of human creativity and imagination. They help with young people's development.(艺术是人类创造力和想象力的表现形式。他们能够帮助年轻人发展。)”可知,艺术可以促进年轻人的发展。] 2.C [推理判断题。根据第二段“I started learning to play the piano at five and now, at 15, I have realized my interest and passion in piano which would have been unknown without exposure to it.(我从5岁开始学习钢琴,现在15岁,我意识到如果没有接触它,我对钢琴的兴趣和热情是不可能的。)” 根据最后一段“In conclusion, the exposure of the arts to youths is important as it helps them recognize their capability in the arts and express their feelings and imagination.(总之,让青少年接触艺术是很重要的,因为这可以帮助他们认识到自己的艺术能力,表达自己的感受和想象。)” At the first exhibition of Henri Rousseau's paintings in 1886, the public laughed out loud, and critics made fun of his original, unschooled style, one writing “Monsieur Rousseau paints with his feet, and his eyes covered.” Despite heavy criticism throughout his life, Rousseau kept painting, confident in his gift. He never received formal training in the arts because his family was too poor. For more than twenty years, he worked at the Paris customs office. It wasn't until the age of 40 that he took up the brush, teaching himself to paint by copying works at the Louvre and studying nature. “Nothing makes me so happy as to observe nature and to paint what I see.” he said. Though his bestknown paintings are of jungle scenes with monkeys, lions, and small woods, Rousseau never left France or saw a jungle. To paint foreign plants and animals, he relied on books, botanical gardens(植物园) in Paris, and his imagination. “When I go into the glasshouse and I see the strange plants of faraway lands,” he once said, “it seems to me that I enter into a dream.” Rousseau claimed to have invented a new style of painting called the landscapeportrait, in which he paints a background view and then adds a person in the foreground later, as he did in Myself: PortraitLandscape (1890). Called a naive (天真的) artist due to his childlike, untrained style, Rousseau painted colors one at a time, starting from the top and working his way down. While critics described his works as flat and inexact descriptions of nature, he earned the respect of artists like Pablo Picasso and Wassily Kandinsky, who thought Rousseau was onto something new. Though his work was never accepted by the art world in his time, Rousseau's paintings hang in museums around the world today. And Rousseau's original approach to art has inspired countless artists to follow their own unique views. 5.Why did Rousseau have no formal training in arts? A.Because he preferred painting in his own way. B.Because he was afraid of being criticized by others. C.Because his family couldn't afford the training. D.Because there were more to be found in nature. 6.What can we learn about Rousseau? A.He was unwilling to develop a personal style. B.He moved to a jungle to study nature. C.He came from an artistic family. D.He was indeed a selftaught painter. 7.What is Rousseau's art like? A.It is blackandwhite. B.It is simple and original. C.It presents social reality. D.It employs persons in the background. 8.What does the last paragraph mainly tell us? A.Rousseau's works have now been recognized. B.Rousseau earned a good reputation in his time. C.Rousseau encouraged young artists to follow his footsteps. D.Rousseau's paintings have hardly ever been shown in museums. 根据第二段“He never received formal training in the arts because his family was too poor.(由于家境贫寒,他从未接受过正式的艺术训练。)” 根据第二段“He never received formal training in the arts because his family was too poor.(由于家境贫寒,他从未接受过正式的艺术训练。)”以及“It wasn't until the age of 40 that he took up the brush, teaching himself to paint by copying works at the Louvre and studying nature. (直到40岁时,他才拿起画笔,通过在卢浮宫临摹作品和研究自然来自学绘画。)”可知,卢梭是自学成才的画家。] 7.B [细节理解题。根据第四段“Rousseau claimed to have invented a new style of painting called the landscapeportrait(卢梭声称自己发明了一种新的绘画风格,叫做风景肖像画,)”和第五段“Called a naive (天真的) artist due to his childlike, untrained style(由于他的风格幼稚,未经训练,被称为天真的艺术家)”可知,卢梭的作品具有独特的原创风格,但是因为没有接受正规的教育培训,有些人认为他的作品天真、孩子气。] 根据最后一段“Though his work was never accepted by the art world in his time, Rousseau's paintings hang in museums around the world today.(尽管卢梭的作品从未被当时的艺术界所接受,但他的作品如今仍被挂在世界各地的博物馆里。)” When it comes to debates over the Mona Lisa, most people tend to fall into conversation over whether the subject is pretending a smile. ____1____— whether the painting shows an image of a woman who has eyebrows (眉毛), as her forehead seems strangely free of follicles (毛囊). The answer? Perhaps. But not anymore.____2____.It was most stylish for women in l6thcentury Italy to pull out or shave their eyebrows. It's within reason that Lisa Gherardini, who is the suspected model for the painting, may have been lacking in eyebrows for that reason. In 2007, a French photographer and engineer named Pascal Cotte cast doubt on that idea.Using an advanced camera capable of capturing images of high quality, Cotte claimed he was able to visualize a faint eyebrow hair on her face.____3____. If Cotte's observation is correct, why only one hair? It's possible, Cotte said, that Da Vinci painted a glaze (釉) over most of the piece and then added further detail on top of it.____4____.The restoration work applied to the painting over time may have accidentally erased her follicular features.Based on his analysis, Cotte visualized other layers of the painting.Da Vinci moved the two left fingers of his subject and had originally made her smile wider, according to the photographer. Cotte's photos allow observers to make their own judgment about whether Mona Lisa's eyebrows were pulled out.____5____. A.A more careful analysis might raise another argument B.No one will deny it's Leonardo Da Vinci's symbolic artwork C.Perhaps Da Vinci had indeed intended to paint his subject with eyebrows D.In painting the work, Da Vinci was likely to be recognizing the fashion trends E.That may have created a situation where the topmost layer was easily damaged F.It's another element that may make the painting appealing for another 500 years G.It can clearly be seen that cracks (裂缝) around the eye have slightly disappeared [语篇解读] 这是一篇说明文。 1.A [空后下文“—whether the painting shows an image of a woman who has eyebrows (眉毛), as her forehead seems strangely free of follicles (毛囊).(——这幅画是否展示了一个有眉毛的女人的形象,因为她的额头似乎奇怪地没有毛囊。)” 2.D [根据空后下文“It was most stylish for women in 16thcentury Italy to pull out or shave their eyebrows.(对于 16 世纪的意大利女性来说,拔眉毛或剃眉毛是最时尚的。)”可知,拔眉毛或者剃眉毛是当时的流行趋势,所以D项中“Da Vinci was likely to be recognizing the fashion trends(达芬奇可能认识到了流行趋势)”,符合上下文逻辑关系。] 3.C [根据空处上文“Using an advanced camera capable of capturing images of high quality, Cotte claimed he was able to visualize a faint eyebrow hair on her face.(使用能够捕捉高质量图像的先进相机,科特声称他能够看到她脸上一根模糊的眉毛。)”可知,科特看到了人物脸上一根模糊的眉毛,C项“Perhaps Da Vinci had indeed intended to paint his subject with eyebrows.(也许达芬奇确实打算给他的人物画上眉毛。)” 4.E [空处上文“It's possible, Cotte said, that Da Vinci painted a glaze (釉) over most of the piece and then added further detail on top of it.(科特说,达芬奇有可能在大部分作品上涂上釉,然后在上面添加更多细节。)”提到了在作品表层上釉,E项中“the situation”就指代这种情况;下文“The restoration work applied to the painting over time may have accidentally erased her follicular features.(随着时间的推移,对这幅画进行的修复工作可能不小心抹去了她的毛囊特征。)” 5.F [根据空处上文“Cotte's photos allow observers to make their own judgment about whether Mona Lisa's eyebrows were pulled out.(科特的照片让观察者可以自行判断蒙娜丽莎的眉毛是否被拔掉。)” ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ [参考范文] Dear Lucy, I am so delighted to know that you want to buy some souvenirs with Chinese characteristics. I'm glad to recommend the Chinese brush to you. The Chinese brush, a traditional writing tool dating back to 2,000 years ago, is ranked as one of the Four Treasures of the Chinese Study. Frankly speaking, in ancient China, calligraphy and paintings were mostly created with it. As far as I'm concerned, the Chinese brush is a perfect gift for your relatives who are fond of Chinese items. I sincerely hope my advice can be of great benefit to you.
