What are the foods that you can only taste in memories? Your mother's biscuits? The mud (泥) pies you made as a child? And what are the recipes that bring those memories to mind? This morning, for the first time in more than a year, I made Dutch Babies. And I didn't burn them. Yes, I'm the kind of cook who's always amazed to pull anything out of the oven that isn't burnt. But sometimes, I get lucky. What are Dutch Babies? Picture a cross between a pancake and an omelet (煎蛋饼) that tastes better than both. They're easy to make, and you can make a lot of servings (一份食物) in one pan (平底锅) at the same time. Making Dutch Babies brings to my mind some of the happiest memories of my life. I was given the recipe by a dear friend Sally, a cook who knew a great dish when she tasted it.I've made Dutch Babies a few thousand times for sleepovers (夜宿的客人) and houseguests and Sunday suppers. They were always a hit, even if I burned them. After my kids grew up, I didn't cook much for years, except for holidays or other big occasions. But if I had a full house, I'd make Dutch Babies for breakfast. I can't recall the last time I made Dutch Babies, before today. I know it was more than a year ago, before life as we knew it was shut down for A certain virus, and we stopped having guests. So why did I make them this morning for only my husband and me? It's been a hard year for all of us, filled with things we couldn't do. I was hungry to celebrate being alive. I mixed up the ingredients and stuck it in the oven. While it baked, I thought of all the family and friends I've baked it for over the years. Good food can feed a hungry crowd. But if it's made with love and seasoned with memories, it can fill a soul with hope of better days to come. Add your own memories. And say thanks to my friend Sally. 1.The questions asked in the first paragraph are used to ________. A.explain the connection between food and memory B.express the author's concern about food safety C.introduce the topic to be discussed D.remind readers of something delicious 2.What do Paragraphs 4 to 6 mainly talk about? A.The author's tips on how to make Dutch Babies. B.The author's memories of making Dutch Babies. C.Why Dutch Babies were welcomed at the author's home. D.The author's family tradition of eating Dutch Babies. 3.Why did the author make Dutch Babies again after more than a year? A.To welcome guests from afar. B.To please her husband. C.To thank her friend Sally. D.To show her gratitude for being alive. 4.What does the author want to tell us from this article? A.Food tastes better when it is shared. B.Food made with love can feed the soul. C.Food gives us hope for better days. D.Food eaten when hungry creates good memories. 根据第一段“What are the foods that you can only taste in memories? Your mother's biscuits? The mud (泥) pies you made as a child? And what are the recipes that bring those memories to mind?”(有哪些食物你只能在回忆中品尝? 根据第四段“Making Dutch Babies brings to my mind some of the happiest memories of my life.”(制作荷兰煎饼让我想起了我生命中一些最快乐的回忆。) 根据倒数第三段“So why did I make them this morning for only my husband and me? It's been a hard year for all of us, filled with things we couldn't do. I was hungry to celebrate being alive.”(那我今天早上为什 么只做给我和我丈夫? 根据最后一段“Good food can feed a hungry crowd. But if it's made with love and seasoned with memories, it can fill a soul with hope of better days to come. Add your own memories. And say thanks to my friend Sally.”(好的食物可以养活饥饿的人群。 It's a cold night, and strong winds are blowing atop a hill in southwest Uganda. The wind rattles the giant metal insect trap. A 400watt bulb is fixed at its center. The light is blinding to human eyes, but it's a magnet for local bush crickets. Protein dense and full of iron, zinc, and other essential minerals, bush crickets, and edible insects in general, have been praised by the UNFAO as a “food source of the future”, key to establishing food security. That's important in countries such as Uganda, where nearly half of the children and a third of women suffer greatly from poor nutrition due to food shortage. The visitors,_as they're called locally, come together to mate and feed in huge swarms after each rainy season in the autumn and spring, when hundreds of people across the country set aside their day jobs to catch then. Salted and fried, the crickets are a delicacy in Uganda, sold for two dollars a bag at openair markets, taxi parks, and roadsides. Now what once was a smallscale and personal harvest in Uganda has become an increasingly commercialized undertaking, with giant traps taking tons of the insects at a time to meet the growing demand. “You see how you enjoy a movie with popcorn? Me, it's movie with crickets,” says one fan. However, this month, it should be the middle of the autumn harvest in Uganda. Legend has it that the insects come from the moon, and tonight it's full. Yet “we've got nothing,” says a cricket catcher and wholesaler. “Where are they?” Decreasing catches suggest the problem is not just overharvesting. Logging to clear land for cash crops has destroyed much bush cricket habitat. And climate change is making the rainy seasons unpredictable, affecting the crickets' swarming patterns. With so many problems accumulating, there is still a long way to go. Thus, scientists have to start from scratch. 5.What does Paragraph 1 present to us? A.A scene. B.A view. C.A plot. D.A lifestyle. 6.Why are bush crickets considered so important in countries such as Uganda? A.Because they are rich in essential minerals. B.Because they can cure many different diseases. C.Because they're considered a symbol in local culture. D.Because they can relieve hunger and ensure nutrition. 7.What does the underlined word “visitors” refer to in the third paragraph? A.Tourists. B.Crickets. C.Local people. D.Cricket catchers. 8.Why do scientists have to start from scratch? A.Because the weather is unpredictable. B.Because it's a tricky problem to deal with. C.Because it's too late to save the bush crickets. D.Because people's awareness should be raised. 根据第一段“It's a cold night, and strong winds are blowing atop a hill in southwest Uganda. The wind rattles the giant metal insect trap. A 400watt bulb is fixed at its center. The light is blinding to human eyes, but it's a magnet for local bush crickets.(这是一个寒冷的夜晚,乌干达西南部的一座小山上刮起了大风。 根据第二段第一句话“Protein dense and full of iron, zinc, and other essential minerals, bush crickets, and edible insects in general, have been praised by the UNFAO as a ‘food source of the future’, key to establishing food security.(蛋白质密度高,富含铁、锌和其他基本矿物质,丛林蟋蟀和一般食用昆虫被联合国粮农组织誉为‘未来的粮食来源’,是建立粮食安全的关键。)” 根据划线单词后面的部分“as they're called locally, come together to mate and feed in huge swarms after each rainy season in the autumn and spring, when hundreds of people across the country set aside their day jobs to catch then.(每年秋天和春天的雨季过后,全国各地的数百人都会放下白天的工作去捕捉猎物,蟋蟀聚在一起交配,成群结队地觅食。)” 根据最后一段前三句话“Decreasing catches suggest the problem is not just overharvesting. Logging to clear land for cash crops has destroyed much bush cricket habitat. And climate change is making the rainy seasons unpredictable, affecting the crickets' swarming patterns. With so many problems accumulating, there is still a long way to go. Thus, scientists have to start from scratch.(捕获量的减少表明,问题不仅仅在于过度捕捉。 Grieve Her Mum Through Cooking Grief and mourning can be expressed in many ways. ____1____. She found comfort through cooking her mother's recipes in a planner and in turn, learned about her mother. Her attitude to life was mirrored in her cooking. Along with the love of food and family, her mother, and her grandmother before her, had passed down a carved wooden spoon. It was given from one to the next. ____2____. She inherited this spoon and the passion her mother had. After her mother's death, Debbie also found the planner containing these detailed dinner party plans and recipes. Her mother was not gone.____3____. And Debbie has learned a lot about her since she began cooking her food. 4____. In trying to make out her mother's notes, Debbie has bonded again with her father in shared grief and understanding. Asking Dad who is who, what is what and learning and understanding, Debbie has been able to see a new side of her mother. Everything Debbie is cooking is inherited, as is the joy and sense of achievement she feels. When she began cooking with her mother as a kid, she was in charge of turning the toast, to stop it catching. Now she is holding the spoon, adding the spices and still looking up from the stove to her mum. ____5____. A.It was never easy to lose someone we love B.She was guiding her through a lifetime of food C.When it reached Debbie, it was worn and perfect D.She felt a sense of achievement in cooking her food E.She is always going to be her mother's kitchen follower F.Debbie found a new and unique way to mourn her mum G.However, she was left with some confusion at some recipes 1.F [根据上文“Grief and mourning can be expressed in many ways.(悲伤和哀悼可以用多种方式表达。)”以及后文“She found comfort through cooking her mother's recipes in a planner and in turn, learned about her mother. Her attitude to life was mirrored in her cooking.(她把母亲的食谱做成菜谱,以此来安慰自己,同时也了解了母亲。 2.C [根据上文“Along with the love of food and family, her mother, and her grandmother before her, had passed down a carved wooden spoon. It was given from one to the next.(除了对食物和家庭的热爱,她的母亲和她的祖母还传下来了一个雕刻的木勺。 以及后文“She inherited this spoon and the passion her mother had.(她继承了这个勺子和她母亲的热情。)” 3.B [根据上文“After her mother's death, Debbie also found the planner containing these detailed dinner party plans and recipes. 以及后文“And Debbie has learned a lot about her since she began cooking her food.(自从黛比开始烹饪她的食物,她了解了很多关于她的事情。)” 4.G [根据后文“In trying to make out her mother's notes, Debbie has bonded again with her father in shared grief and understanding. Asking Dad who is who, what is what and learning and understanding, Debbie has been able to see a new side of her mother.(黛比在试图辨认母亲的笔记时,再次与父亲建立了联系,共同分担悲伤和理解。 5.E [根据上文“Everything Debbie is cooking is inherited, as is the joy and sense of achievement she feels. When she began cooking with her mother as a kid, she was in charge of turning the toast, to stop it catching. Now she is holding the spoon, adding the spices and still looking up from the stove to her mum.(黛比烹饪的每一样东西都是遗传的,她所感受到的喜悦和成就感也是遗传的。 More Chinese, especially young people, are choosing light meals with fewer carbohydrates (碳水化合物) and more vegetables.
