UNIT 3 FASCINATING PARKS Ⅰ. Nowadays, over 6,000 national parks exist in the world.Of all, these are the ones that have been around for hundreds of years and should be on everyone's bucket list. Guilin and Lijiang River National Park,China It is surrounded by striking natural beauty and can be explored by land. But the river national park, as the name suggests, is best explored through leisurely boat rides and cruises that take visitors through many canals and ancient towns that come along the way of the river. Calanques National Park,France While most go to France for the twinkling Eiffel Tower, few tour plans involve a stop at the Calanques National Park, which is made up of both land and sea, with over 140 protected species of animals and plants that reside inside. Because of its topography, the park is unique in that it can be explored through a mix of activities both for those who like waterbodies and those who'd rather stay on land. Yorkshire Dales,United Kingdom Contrary to the popular association of national parks with the wilderness it is filled with winding valleys, hills and villages where over 24,000 people live and work. Yorkshire Dales is also home to several food shops, and the park hosts cheese festivals and farmers markets regularly, so it's best to go hungry. Kakadu National Park,Australia It is a delight for those who like a bit of history mixed with the biodiversity of national parks. While it houses thousands of species of wildlife, there's more to the national park than that. 1.What is recommended for a trip to Guilin and Lijiang River National Park? A.Observing local customs. B.Exploring it through boats. C.Witnessing geological process. D.Going with an empty stomach. 2.What can tourists do in Calanques National Park? A.Visit an archeological reserve. B.Enjoy the local farmers markets. C.See the worldfamous Eiffel Tower. D.Observe protected animals and plants. 3.What do the four national parks have in common? A.They have a long history. 根据第一部分“But the river national park, as the name suggests, is best explored through leisurely boat rides and cruises that take visitors through many canals and ancient towns that come along the way of the river.(但河流国家公园,顾名思义,最好的探索方式是悠闲地乘坐小船和游轮,带着游客穿过许多运河和沿河而来的古镇。)” 根据第二部分“While most go to France for the twinkling Eiffel Tower, few tour plans involve a stop at the Calanques National Park, which is made up of both land and sea, with over 140 protected species of animals and plants that reside inside.(虽然大多数游客都是去法国看埃菲尔铁塔,但很少有人会去卡兰科斯国家公园。 根据第一段“Of all, these are the ones that have been around for hundreds of years and should be on everyone's bucket list.(总之,这些都已经存在了几百年了,应该出现在每个人愿望清单上。)” When his daughter Morgan was growing up, Gordon Hartman was heartbroken after watching her on the playground.Other children refused to play with her, mostly because her disabilities meant she couldn't access the places where they were playing. The family tried other places but were never satisfied. “What we found was there was no place that was an easilyaccessible, fully inclusive park,” Gordon said.So he went home and sold his construction business, bought a large piece of land, and went to work building an entire amusement park for disabled children. All kids need playtime, and Morgan was no different. The park-named Morgan's Wonderland-finally offered Morgan that opportunity. What the Hartmans discovered is that kids without disabilities enjoy the park just as much, and they interact a lot more with everyone when all are included. In fact, three quarters of the park's visitors are not disabled. And that makes it all the more fun. Watching the kids play together without barriers makes you realize that we are all the same, and having fun is for everybody. But it doesn't end there. Onethird of the staff also has special needs. Seeing the way they interact also puts a smile on your face. They take their jobs seriously, and they make sure everybody is having fun. “It feels fantastic because we get to see people who are not given the opportunity to experience the types of rides we have, get on a carousel, get on a train easily, and go fishing,” says Gordon. The park has been visited by people with special needs from over 67 countries. “When we opened this, we didn't know if it was going to work,” says Gordon. “All we wanted to do was bring people together and play.” Just look at the smiles at Morgan's Wonderland, and you'll see how much good it does. 4.Why was Gordon extremely sad? A.His daughter was disabled. B.He had to sell his business. C.His daughter was never satisfied. D.No playground was accessible to Morgan. 5.What do we know about Morgan's Wonderland? A.Every child comes to play with Morgan. B.It hires the disabled to attract tourists. C.It allows every child to have fun here. D.3/4 of its area is for normal children. 6.How did Gordon feel about his amusement park at first? A.Confident. B.Uncertain. C.Ashamed. D.Optimistic. 7.What can be the best title for this text? A.Every Kid Deserves to Have Fun B.We Should Respect Each Other C.A Playground Is Enough for All D.A Father Has Saved His Daughter 根据第一段“When his daughter Morgan was growing up, Gordon Hartman was heartbroken after watching her on the playground.Other children refused to play with her, mostly because her disabilities meant she couldn't access the places where they were playing. 根据第三段“What the Hartmans discovered is that kids without disabilities enjoy the park just as much, and they interact a lot more with everyone when all are included. In fact, three quarters of the park's visitors are not disabled. And that makes it all the more fun. 根据倒数第二段“‘When we opened this, we didn't know if it was going to work,’ says Gordon. 根据第三段“Watching the kids play together without barriers makes you realize that we are all the same, and having fun is for everybody. Do you think that creativity is the ability you were born with?__1__ Many people believe that creative thinking is difficult and favors only some talented individuals and not most others.__2__Researchers have also identified certain personal qualities associated with creativity, such as openness to new experiences and ideas. Together, they seem to paint an unattractive picture for those who consider themselves conventional thinkers. __3__Creative thinking is actually something you engage in every day, whether you realize it or not. Researcher Chris Bauman found that simply redefining a frustrating situation can improve the creativity of conventional thinkers. Say you're anxious about a presentation for work, you can deal with the anxiety by viewing it as a new opportunity to share ideas, rather than as a highrisk performance that could result in a shame if handled poorly. __5__ All People can unlock their creativity.Although the outside circumstances may not always be controlled, they do have the freedom to choose how to deal with life in ways that creatively promote their productivity and wellbeing. Together, they seem to paint an unattractive picture for those who consider themselves conventional thinkers.(研究人员还发现了某些与创造力有关的个人品质,比如对新经历和新想法的开放态度。 3.D [根据后文“Creative thinking is actually something you engage in every day, whether you realize it or not. Moreover, creativity is a skill that can be strengthened. This relieves people who don't consider themselves creative.(创造性思维实际上是你每天都在做的事情,不管你有没有意识到。 4.C [根据后文“For example, combining leftover food to make a tasty new dish, coming up with a new way to accomplish chores, or mixing old outfits to create a new look.(例如,把剩下的食物结合起来做一道美味的新菜,想出一种完成家务的新方法,或者把旧衣服混合起来创造一个新的外观。)” 5.G [根据上文“Researcher Chris Bauman found that simply redefining a frustrating situation can improve the creativity of conventional thinkers. Say you're anxious about a presentation for work, you can deal with the anxiety by viewing it as a new opportunity to share ideas, rather than as a highrisk performance that could result in a shame if handled poorly.(研究人员克里斯·鲍曼发现,简单地重新定义令人沮丧的情况可以提高传统思考者的创造力。 Every day, Duan Lianru spends several hours sitting in her office in Hunchun, Jilin Province to make a 1.________ (compare) of hundreds of photos of Siberian tigers on the computer. “It seems a little boring, but 2.________ (basic) I enjoy the work, which makes a connection between me and the big cats,” said the 36yearold monitor from there search monitoring center of the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park.
