中考二轮复习题型专练

Day 1

Passage 1

During the Spring Festival, Liu Huimin and his team set up a furnace (熔炉). Inside the furnace is burning-hot liquid iron (铁水) which they throw into the air to create fireworks.

This show is known as “Datiehua”. It has been considered a form of celebration during China’s Spring Festival and Lantern Festival since the Song Dynasty. Each show is given for good luck. When villagers open a business or get married, they invite Liu and his team to celebrate the activity.

“I grew up by the Yellow River. I have been doing it for more than 40 years,” Liu said. For people in Shanxi province, Datiehua is one of the most popular Spring Festival customs.

According to Liu, the furnace needs to be heated for nearly 40 minutes and the temperature must be higher than 1,500℃. Only in this way can the liquid iron be fine enough to create wonderful sparks (火花).

When night falls, the show starts. Using a big long spoon (勺子), a man takes the liquid iron from the furnace. He then hits the spoon with a piece of wood.

Bang! Bang! The red-hot liquid iron becomes dazzling (耀眼的) sparks. These shining “stars” light up the night sky. They can be more beautiful than real fireworks. People sit or stand with happy smiles on their faces.

Behind the wonderful show lies great danger because accidents still happen. During a show in Henan province, Liu’s hair got a little burnt.

“People ask me why I’m still doing it when it’s so dangerous. I tell them that I’m just happy to bring joy to people,” Liu said.

Yang Jun’ao, a 16-year-old student from No. 1 Middle School in Nanxian County, Hunan Province, invented a “lotus root harvesting robot (采藕机器人)”.

“I got the idea when I saw my   1  , in her 70s, working hard to harvest lotus roots under the hot sun,” Yang said. Sometimes, his grandmother would   2   hurt her fingers using her harvesting tools. Every time he saw the serious wound on his grandmother’s fingers, he felt   3  . “Seeing my grandma working so hard, I wanted to do   4   for her,” Yang added.

To make things   5   for his grandmother, Yang wanted to invent a machine that could harvest lotus root without people doing anything. He told his teacher Hong Wei his idea, and the teacher   6   him to try it. With the help of his teacher, Yang spent nearly a year building a   7   of the machine.
