when引导的时间状语从句&how long引导的特殊疑问句
一、when引导的时间状语从句
时间状语从句就是在复合句中表示主句动作发生的时间的一种状语从句。
when引导的时间状语从句有以下几个特点:
1. when引导时间状语从句时,意为“当……的时候”。
2. 由于when此时既可以指时间段,也可以指时间点,故从句中的谓语动词既
可以用延续性动词又可以用非延续性动词,且动词既可以和主句的动作同时发生
又可以在主句的动作之前或之后发生。
3. when引导的时间状语从句可放在句首,也可放在句尾。例如:
When I got home,my wife was cooking dinner.当我到家时,我妻子正
在做晚饭。
I often carried water for him when I lived in the countryside.当我住在农村时,我
常常为他挑水。
When the lights are red,the traffic must stop.当红灯亮时,车辆必须停下。
【注意】当主句为将来时态或含有将来意义时,时间状语从句习惯上要用一
般现在时表示将来意义,而不能直接使用将来时态。例如:
I’ll call you when I get there.当我到达那里时,我会给你打电话。
The boy will be a writer when he grows up.当这个男孩长大后,他将成为一名
作家。
二、how long引导的特殊疑问句
how long可用于提问时间长短,意为“多长时间;多久”。how long引
导的特殊疑问句中的谓语动词为延续性动词,答语为表示一段时间的短语或
句子。例如:
—How long have you learned English?你学英语多长时间了?
—I have learned English for five years.我学英语5年了。
—How long will he stay here?他将在这里待多长时间?
—Four weeks.四周。
【注意】how long还可用于对物体的长度进行提问,意为“多长”。例如:
—How long is the ruler?这把尺子多长?
—It’s one meter.它1米长。
