of

sunrise.

cultures

do
special
things
to

bad
luck

beginning
of

new
year.

Ecuador,
families
make
a

dol

old
clothes.

dol
is

with

newspapers
and
firecrackers.
At
midnight,
these
dols
are
burned
to
show
the
bad
things
from
the
past
year
are
gone
and
the
new
year
can
start

traditions

luck
in

new
year
include
throwing
things

rivers

ocean,
or
saying
special
things
on

first
day
of

year.

widespread
Spanish
tradition
for
good
luck
is
to
eat
grapes
on

Day.
