译林（2021）高中英语 选择性必修 第七册第四单元 Reading Effective communication Presenter Teaching theories the New English Curriculum Standards(2020) Teaching and Researching English Reading(by Chen Zehang) Analysis of the teaching material What: The topic of this unit is Understanding each other, belonging to the theme Human and Society, categorized into the thematic cluster——interpersonal communication. The reading text of this unit is a lecture transcript about the process of communication and how to achieve effective communication from three aspects. Why: It aims to improve students’ ability to effectively communicate with others and cultivate the awareness of the value of empathy in their communication. How: Students will be guided to figure out the three elements of effective commuincation through the reading tasks and encouraged to apply these tips to daily and cross-cultural communication. Analysis of the students This class is intended for Senior two students. At this stage, most students already have a good command of basic reading strategies like skimming and scanning to get the main idea or more detailed information. But students in the class are not at the same level. As teachers, we can provide a scaffold to help students improve themselves and go further to a higher level, or we can say the ZPD-the zone of proximal development so that learners can achieve more with guidance. Teaching objectives According to the Core Competences, by the end of the class, students are supposed to: ● figure out the general idea of the main part of the lecture through the allocated reading tasks; ● use real-life examples to interpret the communication skills with the target language ● apply the skills of effective communication in daily life; ● transfer these skills to cross-cultural communication; ● develop their logical and creative thinking.
