Stick insects(
uvw
)are also known as stick bugs, leaf insects, bug insects and walking sticks. There are
about 3,000 different kinds of stick insects. They live in forests and grasslands in all continents except Antarctica
(
xy:
). They spend much of their time eating leaves in trees. They can grow up to twofeet long, making them
one of the longest insects in the world!
Stick insects are a tasty snack for birds and other animals. But these bugs have a tricky way to hide. They look
like sticks! They also dont move much. This makes them hard to be spotted(
z?
)in trees.
Some stick insects also have colourful wings that help them keep safe. They keep their wings closed until other
animals come near. Then, the stick insects show their wings in a bright flash. This scares the animals away and
gives the stick insects time to hide.
Stick insects have another smart trick. A stick insect can get away even if a bird catches it by the leg. The
stick insect just lets its leg fall off!Luckily, stick insects can grow back any legs they lose.
When all else fails,a stick insect will play dead. In front of its enemy,it will suddenly drop from the tree, fall
to the ground, and stay very still. This usually works well. Its enemy may not find it on the ground or prefer living
prey(
{`
)and move on.
( )11. What do stick insects eat?
A. Fruits. B. Leaves. C. Flowers. D. Grass.
( )12. What do some stick insects use their colourful wings to do?
A. To keep them safe. B. To keep them warm.

( )14. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
