Choosing a poet
Who is your favourite English poet?
Which of his/her poems do you like best? Why?
My favourite English poet is George Gordon Byron. I like his poem "She Walks in Beauty" best. This poem is a song of praise. Through a unique perspective, the poet describes a flowing beauty by vividly presenting a woman's beauty to us as if we see her in person. Her beauty is not artificial but natural. Besides being beautiful, she is
honest and kind under the poet's pen.
Through her quiet face we can see into
her pure soul.
Choosing a poet
She Walks in Beauty
BY LORD BYRON (GEORGE GORDON)
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
...
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
