Unit 1 Art Reading and Thinking: a short history of western painting 湖北省武穴市育才高中 张海英 Good morning, dear judges. It’s my great honor to be here to present my teaching design. The content of my lesson is Senior English required elective course Book 3 Unit 1 Reading and Thinking --a short history of western painting To begin with, I will introduce my basic teaching elements from the following perspectives. 1. Analysis of the basic teaching elements 1 Teaching material analysis The topic of the reading text in this unit is a brief history of Western painting. Through the introduction of Western painting in different periods and the unique styles developed under the guidance of representative painters of each era, readers are inspired to appreciate the history of art, explore the possible development direction of Western painting in the future and the source of power to promote the development of art, think about the function and value of art, improve aesthetic quality, and worship humanistic value. The text uses an illustrative style to objectively describe the four key periods of the development of Western painting from the perspective of a third party, with compact content, plain language and approachable style. The text structure of the reading text is relatively simple. the first paragraph is the introduction, which introduces the theme and writing purpose of the article; The rest is the main content, divided chronologically into four sections, each with its own sub-headings (The Middle Ages, The Renaissance, Impressionism and Modern Art).  ②Students analysis Strengthes: 1. show great interest in this topic 2. capable of expressing their ideas simply 3. having mastered some reading techniques Problems: 1. lacking in ability of information-gathering 2. short of vocabularies related to the topic 3. have no idea of the characteristics and the development of Western painting ③Analysis of the teaching objectives  In order to promote the development of every student
