selves after getting there.
On the first day, my bag was 3 at the air-

Mind maps make meaningful learning possible
as they help organize ideas and information in a way
that is easy to understand. Here are three types of
mind maps and ways to use them.
The bubble map is used to
describe a subject using adjec-
tives (形容词). Bubble maps
can be very useful when analy-
zing(分析) a character from a
novel or story, introducing new
lessons to the class, etc.
The brace map is used to
show the units of an object or
event. For example, the parts of
a car. It shouldnt be used for
something abstract(抽象的) like
an idea, which cannot be easily
separated.

Ⅲ. 任务型阅读(2023 嘉兴、舟山改编)
It was the fifth day of our Italian journey. We
arrived at our hotel earlier than usual. Dad offered
to take us to the ancient city of Pompeii. I didnt
really want to go because I had no interest in
old cities.
We travelled there by train. On the way, Dad
told us something about the history. Many years
ago, Pompeii was a large city near a volcano (火
山). The volcano broke out and completely covered
the city in ash(灰). About twenty thousand people
were killed. But the buildings remained there. And
now 2,000 years later, people around the world
come here to see how people lived all those
years ago.
I had thought it was boring to visit the 2,000-
year-old houses, but I was wrong. They were very
interesting! Most of their rooms had fine paintings
all over the walls. I was also amazed at the bath-
rooms. Id love a big bathroom in our house—ours
is so small!
Dad usually makes bad plans but this time he
gets it right, finally. What a surprise! I got really
interested in Pompeii. In fact, Ive got lots of ideas
for our house when we get home!

China has a very large population in the world. Be-
cause of the large population, there is less living space
for each family. And its difficult for lots of people to
find jobs. The large population also causes many other
difficulties for the whole nation. For example, we are
short of energy and water. Most cities are more crowded
than before, and the traffic is much heavier. The large
population has become a serious problem.
The population problem in China is really serious,
so I think the government should find out more ways to
solve it. I believe we can make it.

How to Keep Safe
As teenagers, we should always keep safety in
mind. But how can we keep safe? Here are some sug-
gestions.
When we are at school, we should listen to the
teachers and never have a fight with our classmates.
Also, we mustnt run too fast in classrooms or in the
teaching building, because it may cause accidents. At
home, it is necessary to use electricity and natural gas
safely. If we are out, we should follow the traffic rules
while riding or walking. Never swim in the river. Its re-
ally dangerous. When we are in danger, remember to
call 110, and then the police will help us in time.
Safety is so important that it must come first. I
hope the above suggestions can really help.

My hobby
Everyone has his or her own hobby and so do I. I
have many hobbies, such as reading and painting. They
have changed me a lot. And reading is my favourite.
I loved reading when I was six years old. I have a
big shelf for holding books. There are so many world
famous novels and so on. Having nothing else to do,
I likesitting beside the shelf to read. I think that reading
is interesting, because I can get a lot. And then,
because of reading, my writing is very good. I would
like to be an editor when I grow up, so I need to read
more books. Reading has brought me much pleasure and
also widened my horizon.
In order to succeed in my career in the future, I
will keep reading and read more.
