dren of her age. She knew how talented they were.
She could hear Joanne playing her guitar every
afternoon. And she sometimes could hear Tommy
practicing the piano. Sylvia had a sweet singing
voice.
“There is so much talent right on this street,”
Kara said to her mother. “I wish everyone could see
and hear all the great things. ”
“Have you ever thought about setting up a tal-
ent show?” her mother said. “So all the kids can
show what they can do. ”
“A great idea, Mom,” Kara said. Soon Kara
started to prepare for the talent show. To attract as
many people as possible, Kara made some posters
and put them up all around her neighborhood.
Soon, everyone was looking forward to the show.
Kara was pleased that everyone wanted to be in
the talent show. But she couldnt help feeling a lit-
tle sad. “I wish I had a talent so I could be in the
show, too,” she told her mother. Her mother
smiled. “You will discover something about your-
self by the end of the day,” she said.
Kara went to the park a little early and set up a
small stage for the performers. Everyone brought

Ⅲ. 任务型阅读(2023 安徽)
When I was in Grade Three, I watched a video
about the findings of ancient ruins(遗迹). It inter-
ested me so much that from that moment I knew
what I wanted to do with my life.
Today, Im very lucky to work as an archaeolo-
gist(考古学家). Its an exciting work. Holding a
piece of history is really fantastic.
I decided what I wanted to be at the age of
nine. But the road wasnt easy. Along the way I was
told many things: I was too young. I wasnt good
enough, I should get married and have kids, All
these words really got me down, but I chose to
follow my heart and move on.
I needed money to support my study, so I
asked for six grants(经费). The first five replies
said no. At the beginning, it hurt. But the next no
hurt a little less. Six months later, the last reply
came. This time it was yes. Finally, I could go on
with my archaeological work.
As you can see, so many noes didnt beat me.
Instead, they made me stronger and helped me
grow. For anyone thinking of a dream job, I would
say:
1. What made the writer want to be an archaeolo-
gist? (不超过 10 个词)
A video about the findings of ancient ruins.
2. How did the writer feel about the road to beco-
ming an archaeologist? (不超过 5 个词)
It wasnt easy.
3. What would the writer say at the end of the text?
(不超过 10 个词)

Stick to your dreams.或 Follow your heart.或
Be yourself.

China has a very large population in the world. Be-
cause of the large population, there is less living space
for each family. And its difficult for lots of people to
find jobs. The large population also causes many other
difficulties for the whole nation. For example, we are
short of energy and water. Most cities are more crowded
than before, and the traffic is much heavier. The large
population has become a serious problem.
The population problem in China is really serious,
so I think the government should find out more ways to
solve it. I believe we can make it.

How to Keep Safe
As teenagers, we should always keep safety in
mind. But how can we keep safe? Here are some sug-
gestions.
When we are at school, we should listen to the
teachers and never have a fight with our classmates.
Also, we mustnt run too fast in classrooms or in the
teaching building, because it may cause accidents. At
home, it is necessary to use electricity and natural gas
safely. If we are out, we should follow the traffic rules
while riding or walking. Never swim in the river. Its re-
ally dangerous. When we are in danger, remember to
call 110, and then the police will help us in time.
Safety is so important that it must come first. I
hope the above suggestions can really help.
