Kunqu opera is known as the “mother” of a hundred operas because of its influence on many other Chinese theatre forms,including Beijing opera. 昆曲发源于元朝（公元1271年－公元1368年）的昆山腔，至今已有六百多年的历史。包括京剧在内的很多剧种都受到昆曲的影响，因而昆曲素有“百戏之母”的雅称。 Huangmei opera is thought to originate from tea picking songs in Huangmei county, Hubei province. It enjoys great popularity among the masses by reflecting the life of ordinary people in a fresh style. 据说，黄梅戏源于湖北省黄梅县的采茶歌。黄梅戏以一种清新的风格反映了普通百姓的生活，受到了大众的喜爱。 Sichuan opera originated at the end of the Ming Dynasty (1368 AD-1644 AD) and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty (1636 AD-1912 AD). With immigrants flooding into Sichuan, different dramas were brought in to blend with the local dialect, customs, folk music and dances.Gradually, the vocal art, presenting local characteristics in Sichuan,came into being.
