Unit 1 People of Achievement Reading and Thinking: Tu Youyou Awarded Nobel Prize 湖北省武穴市育才高中 张海英 Good morning, dear judges. It’s my great honor to be here to present my teaching design. The content of my lesson is Senior English required elective course Book 1 Unit 1 Reading and Thinking People of achievement –TuYouyou awarded Nobel Prize. To begin with, I will introduce my basic teaching elements from the following perspectives. 1. Analysis of the basic teaching elements ①Teaching material analysis The topic of the reading text in this unit is "People who have made remarkable achievements", aiming to let students get close to Tu Youyou, winner of the Chinese Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, understand the research process that she and her team discovered artemisinin, learn the great qualities of scientists, and establish a correct outlook on life and values. At the same time, through the text, we can deeply feel the outstanding contribution of Chinese traditional medicine and Chinese scientific research to the world, and establish national cultural confidence. The text adopts the type of news story. The news report part objectively describes Tu Youyou's winning the Nobel Prize, while the story narrative part vividly tells the research path of Tu Youyou and her team. The text embodies the "inverted pyramid" structure of news. The first paragraph briefly reported the important events of Tu Youyou winning the Nobel Prize, including the time, people, events and reasons. The second and third paragraphs introduced Tu Youyou's life experience, mainly describing the main process of Tu Youyou and her team discovering and refining artemisinin, so that readers can appreciate the hardships of research and Tu Youyou's excellent qualities.
