Material analysis:
The tapescript is a conversation that happened between Tingting and two of her international friends, Anna and Lisa. Tingting, in the conversation, invites the friends to enjoy Hunan cuisine in a Hunan restaurant. While ordering food, the Chinese girl tells her peers the flavour of Hunan cuisine and the differences between Hunan cuisine and Sichuan cuisine. The hostess, moreover, introduces some representative dishes in Hunan, such as red braised pork, hand-torn cabbage, bridge tofu, dry pot duck with golden buns and steamed fish head covered with chillies. Besides, Tingting recommends some Hunan dishes to the foreigners according to Chinese eating habits.(I recommend .../ It's quite good, but I suggest .../ Now, what else would you like to eat .../ You should have... It's the most famous ... ) Anna and Lisa also show their curiosity and interests in the Chinese food culture and humanities hidden in Hunan cuisine. (But what kind of food is Hunan cuisine exactly?/ But why do Hunan people prefer such spicy food?/ So what shall we order?/ Why is that?/ Oh, that's interesting. Let's have that then.) The expressions in the bracket set good examples for students to introduce Chinese cuisines and food cultures to foreigners.
