To celebrate the day, it brought out a 100⁃second video clip (片段) showing BBC presenters making silly mistakes or forgetting their lines. This is quite typical of British humor. British people are quite cheeky (厚脸皮的). They like to make fun of themselves and laugh at just about anything. Similar to this is the understatement (轻描淡写), like saying “it’s a bit windy,” when there’s a huge storm outside. We also love our awkward situations. The British can be quite awkward people, not knowing what to say in social situations or saying the wrong thing to the wrong people, or just being a bit weird in public. Mr Bean making a fool of himself in front of people is a good example. Another thing we love doing is being “deadpan”. This is when you say funny things with a serious face as if they’re not a joke.
